If this is anything more than a mentor role, I give up.  McD and his “system” being “too difficult” for players to grasp without years in it, tells me everything I need to know at this point.  For one, it only works when the other team screws up and the real competition doesn’t screw up enough (playoffs) when it matters.  Two, he can’t play guys who don’t fit his system instead of showing true coaching ability and making the scheme maximize the talent.  This RIGHT HERE is the difference between good and great.  This is why Belicheck was/is one of, if not the best coaches ever.  He had a base system, but he could plug in anyone and adapt the system to fit the guys he had, letting multiple guys become stars with the Pats and duds elsewhere because he put them in a place to succeed.  Here, either you fit McDs scheme or you’re another wasted draft pick.  It’s ludicrous.

Simplicity is the mark of genius.  Any idiot can make something complicated, it takes real intelligence to make the difficult simple.   I give McD credit where it’s due, but if he won’t change this stupid system, this team will always come up short.

You defined the problem, why can other teams make it work, and it’s impossible for McD to get guys ready?

We'll stay here and support the team.

He’s running a football team that he prides on being a family.  I’m good with it.

I believe the team will benefit more from having Poyer, Phillips and Dane Jackson  as the 13th-16th players the practice squad than players that they deem lesser than Latu, Logue and Travis clayton and Hardy.  Anyone think any of those 4 guys will have any positive plays for the Bills this season?  Win the Super Bowl.

I don’t see why anyone would complain about bringing Poyer in as the 16th guy on the PS on this team.  It’s mind boggling tbh.

Families may own teams but NFL isn’t a family business.  &nbsp

None of these end of career retreads are in any significant way “coaching”.  They want a spot and some more real money (who can blame them?).

Why mention SB wins? Zero with those 3 in their primes.

It’s not a family business but the locker room can be a family.  Creating a family type atmosphere within the workplace can go a long way.  When you truly care about the man or woman working next to you, you can, and likely will be more productive with the potential to give more effort depending on the profession obv).  Building teams has been my career, so I can say that it does matter.  You disagree-  cool beans.

I didn’t mention Super Bowl wins.  I said win the Super Bowl.  That’s the goal.  Poyer can have a greater impact on us winning a Super Bowl than the guy that would’ve have his place on the PS.

have a few fun black label shows under my belt

honestly, I’d love to hear the reasoning on Hyde/poyer

I don’t think Hyde was ever intended to play. I’m assuming same here. On a purely unemotional level - asst coaches and get a younger athlete prepared starting today

I’m assuming it’s some family values angle that they take care of their own so buy into the system fully but even there… is poyer better off floating around on the practice squad or putting a coaching title on his resume? Seems teaching the man to fish by introducing his next career option would be totally appropriate

Screen name you chose "No Saint" makes more sense :)

It was written here that the Vet PS guys were the 1st to come off the bench by design. True or not I don't know

If Bills brought in Hyde  to Coach from the locker room ? Its what I hoped for.

 Poyer , maybe.

But he might get on the field with our sketchy ( right now ) secondary.

Wish Beane would have just paid them a fee for Coaching/downloading to the Kids When training camp started , if the intention was purely to Coach them up

I am no longer a fan of Jordan after last season aggressions and surprised here they brought him on.

But i see your reasoning

I’m concerned about Damar Hamlin and Cole Bishop playing.  We don’t know if Bishop can be a viable starter.  We already know Damar is below average.

Those are 2 of our top 3 safeties.  I hate to say it, but there’s a slim possibility that Poyer is better than both of those guys.  Unlikely, but possible (sadly).

If things go south opposite Rapp (or when Rapp gets injured), after Hancock or Lewis, he can probably give McD what he wants out there better than the other options not on a practice squads.

doesn’t seem like we have the money for the guy everyone wants- Justin Simmons.  Or maybe there’s more to his situation that we know.

They can always find money. Simmons may not be on their list.

But yea , the secondary and depth within gives pause to most of thinking SB.

CB#2 is in the running as well.

This front seven better be pretty badazz

:)

I continue to be completely unperturbed about the safety position. Hopefully Bishop will rise to the occasion so that 2nd round pick won't have been a total waste. If not and Hamlin or Poyer need to fill in, so be it. They'll both hit their landmarks and we'll just have to scheme around their athletic limitations. It's not fatal. I actually think Poyer might be a better option than Hamlin if push comes to shove.

The DL just has to be much better this year. And we need average play from our CB2. And we need the play calling to be better. If all of those things happen no one is going to care about starting one replacement level player at safety.

Unperturbed you say ?

 I think it deserves monitoring.

Hopefully , is not a word i much care for when rating players lol

The "potential" that actually matters is Cole Bishop and Jordan Hancock.

If there's injuries to the Safety room or that potential isn't there this year, you want a veteran that knows the Defense that you can plug and play. Anyone but Jordan Poyer or Darrick Forrest would require learning the Defense and the Playbook while real bullets are flying. While also being the type of talent that was just put out on the street.

I think you're really overreacting here. Whatever "potential" you're getting from a Practice Squad Safety here is likely the same and potentially less than we'd get from Poyer, if we have to put him in. Especially when you consider the familiarity Poyer has with what McDermott wants.

This safety issue we perceive seems not an issue for Coaches I suppose.

I would have wanted to solve this one much earlier in the NFL season via FA.

 They have a plan , I guess :)😇

Poyer as a starter didn’t impact the Bills “winning a Super Bowl”, logic dictates that him being on the PS would have even less than zero impact.

Family? Poyer gave a cheap shot to Coleman last year.  He’s not “family”. Guys a bum.

Logic suggests nothing of the sort.

where in the locker room do you put a guy who torpedoed a guy who is on his former, now current team?

Seems the locker room is pretty excited to have him back, but I guess you know more than guys like Dion Dawkins and Taron Johnson.

It wasn't a ***** cheap shot. It was a football play made by a guy no longer in his prime that was a step and a half late. There was no malicious intent. This is a worst take than “winning a Super Bowl, doesn’t matter at all, just enjoy beating the bottom tier squads”

This is so dumb.  He is cooked

Maybe in your world, he was 1/2 of one of the best safety tandems the Bills have ever had and I would be willing to say having him waiting in the wings just incase someone went down is as good or maybe a bit better than having Hamlin as their go to just incase .

He has probably forgot more about the game than the rookies have set eye's on at this point of their career so if can interject some wisdom helping the Rooks get better and be there just incase to break glass & insert him doesn't bother me which is smart on McD's part ...

Oh great! Now we have a forgetful safety. 😉

In the adult section.

One moment of poor judgement doesn’t outweigh years of leadership and bonds.

but in this case, it does because it fits your narrative

it was a cheap shot.  Also, absolutely targeted Shakir in September—that one was even more blatant. go watch that one again.

Bad take? Not here it wasn’t at the time.  Still isn’t.

The cheapshot still bothers me. Perhaps it shouldn't ?

This, but unironically.
