And yet here you are OP...discussing what they want you to talk about. Thats how it works. Turn off the tv, stop reading CNN etc. Life is very good once you tune it out.

It’s called an Idiot Box for a reason.  And that was 50 years before trash TV

What would of the Sumerians done if instead of studying math, and the universe, and inventing written word, they instead watched TV?

imagine if Olmecs had TV?

imagine if the Aztecs watched TV instead of the stars?

if ancient Egyptians watched trash TV instead of being brilliant?

Idiocracy was fairly spot on.  Humanity is Regressing, not Progressing

I actually do look at Reuters for sure... AP and USA Today less frequently.. I guess my point is I feel like I need to read it all to get some level of remote understanding.. its a crime really... Never thought I would say I missed Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw... Walter Cronkite...

Ah yes, the good old days when the news men always told you nothing but the facts. It's been a business going back to Ancient Greece and beyond my man.

The key to separating fact from fiction in the news is media literacy. Those DBQ's they made us do in Elementary social studies turned out to be pretty important after all.

Everything in life is cause and effect. The reason media is the way the OP observed is that there’s very little true reporting or investigative journalism being done. That sort of thing takes lots of time and costs lots of money. What we have instead is people just spouting opinions or repeating other people’s opinions. With a plethora of outlets competing for attention each story burns red hot for a week and then the circus packs up and moves on to the next car accident. The only remaining question is whether it’ll reach such a critical mass that it completely folds in on itself and/or explodes in supernova.

Why did my mind immediately go to ESPN here?

To be fair - they all failed to sustain in the end... Are we really any different?

How exactly would the media take it in the mass?

You see now, that might be crossing  a different line. We are also relatively family friendly as well.

But now you have me more than a little curious.

I'm guessing Billdos would be involved, somehow..

What if Spartacus had a Piper Cub?
