Just for comparison:

In the 2024 UFL season, over 77 UFL players signed with NFL teams, representing more than 19% of the players who participated in the UFL season. The UFL had 400 players in the 2024 season. Additionally, the UFL announced that 21 UFL players are currently on NFL rosters. 

 

How bad can UFL players be if almost 20% get NFL camp invites?

And that would be an incorrect thing to think. 7 total Ohio State players "got a chance" in the NFL. (4 on active roster). None had their rights drafted by the UFL. Steele Chambers (what a name), is the lone member of the Ohio State 2024 class currently in the UFL. That's 5 players across two leagues.

I never changed the variable, I said “starting lineup” in my first post. My point is if the NFL drafted 14 Ohio State players, I think Ohio State might be able to beat a UFL team. That was the original topic. Some of those guys will be NFL starters, and the rest will be UFL level guys. The UFL doesn’t have any NFL starting caliber players, so why couldn’t OSU beat a UFL team? How is 82% of OSU’s starting lineup future salesmen if 14 guys got drafted this year? I don’t get your math, but I appreciate your take, I just disagree.

This is a statistical extreme, that’s a good point, but I think it’s going to be common in the NIL world of college football. I’ve noticed the NFL draft increasingly dominated by several college teams.

Im starting to see the value in Vince McMahon scripting games. You could make most games intriguing by default, like a yearly showdown with the league's top QBs that always seemingly comes down to the last play in the regular season, only to culminate in a close showdown in the playoffs, like a match between Hogan and Macho Man, or Stone Cold and The Rock. Knowing Vince, he'd probably do something like getting a popular music artist to date one of the players, a la bringing in Cindy Lauper and creating the Rock n Wrestling Connection. Imagine if the NFL used a pop singer to boost ratings? Like imagine if the league had a bunch of snafus that caused a dip in ratings, like a player disrespecting the flag or something? Maybe even give that team a boost to keep them front and center, you can bring in that singer's fans..

I think putting some of these teams in enormous stadiums is weird, and the TV money is really the only thing that keeps this going.  They have fewer teams and games than the NLL for example, and average less attendance than the bandits.  They limit the roster size more than the NFL does to keep payroll down.  I'm sure travel and expenses cuts a lot of that.

 

Pro football requires a certain size of surface so something like a tour becomes challenging as you have to either use university or NFL resources.  Even premier league teams tour in the offseason, but with UFL money its going to be difficult - and part of what makes sports exciting is rooting for your team.

while the team in St Louis seems to draw the biggest crowds (4ok sometimes) there are games pulling in just over 2000 fans in the stands.  Where are they supposed to put a game like that?  High school fields?

Yeah, its a mess.  Can't put them in prime time because then you're competing with NHL/NBA/MLB and even other things like Wrestling and reality tv.  So now you're airing on weekend days like the NFL/NCAA but, there's still going to be some competition with other sports (plus playoffs for NHL and NBA) and you add in golf.

They should merge with the CFL & attract a whole new audience.

 

Bet that would increase curiosity as well. Obviously, the CFL has a much longer history, so they'd have to adapt similar rules, but it would be a neat way to tie the 2 countries together (especially at a time where our closest ally has somehow been labeled an adversary).
