I’ll show my ignorance here. I understand why Elon would want this. Either short TSLA through a couple layers or get the left to buy his cars. But I’m missing what’s in it for Trump to be called a pedophile by the man with the world’s largest microphone other than just being a distraction to his tariffs. Sorry, honestly missing it - I’m not doubting it because nothing is out of bounds nowadays but fill me in?.

The damage Musk did is done, nothing he said in the last few days has changed that. I'll be the last one to ever buy an electric car but this idea that everyone is going to suddenly go back to buying teslas is just charter on a message board.

if you’re right, would you agree any politician who buys huge amounts of Tesla stock during this “sale” should be investigated?

Serious question. No gotcha question. How do you feel about politicians who are broke when elected but in a few short years are multimillionaires?

This is how Trump gets him back into the good graces of the customers he lost because they’re losers.

They can start buying Tesla’s again.

Completely staged.  Musk gets to “repair” his public reputation that doesn’t need repairing.

AND he can continue to push the country to fiscal sanity by applying pressure on the only party of relevancy in America.

There's a lot of chatter about how Trump wouldn't have won without Elon.

I agree.

But it wasn't his endorsement or money that did it.  If Elon doesn't buy Twitter there's no way Trump wins.

Musk didn't tell us anything we didn't know already. We all know trumps name is on there and that's why they are not made public.

That's easy to say from the sidelines but the fact is he's got to get this bill through without Democratic support.  It's very difficult to do when you have a slim majority in both the House and Senate.  That's the reality of being president as you have to make pragmatic decisions on what you think is best for the party at this moment.  It's impossible to please everyone.

The bill is absolute garbage.  As his economic plan.  He isn’t pleasing anyone.

The increase in the SALT deduction is pleasing me. And I'll bet other posters here in States with high income and property taxes.

As for removing the EV tax credit, the big majority of people buying a Tesla EV are high earners that probably don't need it. I see lots of Teslas in my section of town and at present I think they're just a rich man's toy and before Musk got tangled up with Trump a way for liberals to virtue signal they're concern for the environment if you ignore the 2 giant gasoline powered SUVs in their driveway.

Every single one of them should be investigated. Left, right, center. I don’t know what the Mendoza line is though for “how much is too much” to make, but that’s why I’m not a policymaker.

I finally leased an EV (not a Tesla, although I considered one) because the incentives/rebates just made it too damn cheap to consider anything else. I think it's great. Never buy gas for trips around town. Still have an ICE for roadtrips. This seems to be the most popular combination for EV adopters in my neck of the woods.

I believe the Elon / Trump rift is real and that they both have legitimate points to stand on outside of the ill advised spat on public display.

Remember that Cruz and Rubio were once sworn orange menace enemies as well.

I'm amazed how people are constantly surprised by Trump being the same guy he's always been.

This is uncharted territory for Elon. Not even close for Trump.

Weird take from Dinesh: "given the current makeup of Congress."

The current makeup of Congress is a reflection of the current makeup of the Trump Republican coalition. For example, you can't severely cut Medicaid without pissing off all of Josh Hawley's Missouri voters. You can't eliminate the SALT deduction without losing seats in NYS. It is true that this is the difference in governing vs. philosophizing, but that's not a particularly profound point.

Trump understands the reality of horse trading in politics. Elon does not.

Would Trump love to do what Elon wants with the debt?

Absolutely.

And if Trump is the dictator the left says he is, then he would.

In the end this is a spat about Congress and their constant pork put into every bill.
