As a Catholic I don't find it offensive at all I don't find the meme itself very funny either.

It did however illicit the exact response it was intended to deliver, and that is absolutely hilarious.

10 years since Trump the Orange threw his hat into the political ring and people still don't get it.

Truly amazing.

Hey Mup,

No, he didn’t have to do that and it goes on the pile of silliness in my opinion.  However, my friend, while I believe your intentions are noble and true, I have much greater concern about religious intolerance from the left than I ever will about a meme.  It is flat out fascinating to me to see liberals expressing outrage over this, and I can only conclude it’s manufactured.  On some level, I believe Trump’s team knew this would be the result, weighed out the pros and cons and pushed forward.

On top of that….I believe generally that humor is subjective and generally harmless.  I respect your right to be outraged and only ask that you respect my right to an opinion where it stops at “it’s pretty silly”.

Somewhere between the fundamentalist extremists on the right and the liberal extremists on the left, most of the rest of us reside peacefully.   My thought here is that you’re creating a narrative in anticipation of something extremely unlikely to happen and backfilling with anxiety.

This is a foundational maga tenet: hurting others is more important than improving one’s own situation. Many seem to have given up on being better people. Cheering on a crude bully is where they find satisfaction all the while pretending they’re Christian. Such a sad, pathetic existence…

This Trump stunt is typical for our psycho president. He always attacks and defiles what others revere. He attacks John McCain as a loser, POWs are losers, he insults pastors, he calls military generals idiots, he mocks disabled people, he mocks Gold Star parents, he says experts are idiots, he doesn’t put his hand on the Bible for his inauguration, and now he mocks the Pope.

He does all of this because of his psychological need to prove he is superior to everyone else. It comes from his damaged psyche and broken brain. If he insults and defiles what society respects, reveres and loves, he sullys his target and he gains power in his mind. He forces his supporters to choose who they revere more - Trump or his target. They almost always choose him, so their devotion to him grows as they can’t criticize his actions. … Just my opinion…

This perhaps the most insightful post I’ve read here. It almost makes it worth it to wade through all the shite.

Trump is a loud, abrasive, narcissistic gasbag.

He's always been this way, well before he ever entered the political arena.

He's always been purposely controversial, everything he does or says is done with a purpose beyond what's taken at face value, much like your standard run of the mill politician. Yet Trump is able to run circles around regular politicians because he's been at this game in the pop culture world for four decades.

I suggest that if you always keep in mind that he is and always will be the narcissistic, bombastic gasbag everyone knows him to be and then always pause to consider his actions through that lens, you'll be less prone to allowing him to get your BP up.

I find a Catholic President being overtly pro-abortion and pro-trans for minors to be far more offensive than a meme President … posting a meme, but that’s just me.

Tbh, I’d rather he not do this stuff.  Just like the constant trolling of Canada as a 51st state.  I have no idea why he feels the need to have all these sideshows going on.

As far as posters in this thread talking about division and lack of empathy under Trump.. Sorry, this isn’t fantasy land and you can either have a country with no borders, more violence, drug death and strained government programs, hospital systems and societal safety nets OR a grown up who actually wants to protect Americans at the risk of offending your utopian delusions.

This is why, despite his over the top gamble on trade wars and constant troll/meme activity, Trump still polls ahead of any major Democrat leader or Congressional authority.

My suggestion would be to focus on actually putting forth policy provisions that don’t divide us based on race or sex because of the Democrat Party’s consistent hyper-focus on identity, stop opposing everything for the sake of opposition (Jeffries was right to tell Congressional leaders to stop going to El Salvador to meet with a man most certainly associated with MS-13) and maybe, just maybe, try to not get sidetracked for days on end by a meme.

Quack, I posted about my dad's cousin, the nun, to show that even nuns ad priest can laugh at themselves.

From the left replies here the left's iron law is still in effect.

The left can't meme and can'y get memes.

I hope they pick someone who is near as good as JPII.

False choice. Compromise is the opposite of the dualism you suggest. Either/or is easy to imagine but rarely reality. The best solutions often reside in gray areas.  MAGAs avoid those areas.  Deep thoughts hurt their heads or are simply impossible for them.
Is it utopian to expect the president of the US to respect one of the country’s largest religions or to at least not mock it?

Pretty sure I said I don’t care for that.

I see "White House posts AI image of Trump as pope/'I’d like to be pope,' Trump jokingly told reporters this week, soon after attending the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome" (Politico):

When asked who should succeed Francis, Trump told a reporter on Tuesday: “I have no preference,” after joking that “I’d like to be pope.” Trump said he himself would be his “number one choice.” He then added: “I must say, we have a cardinal that happens to be out of a place called New York who’s very good.”

The AI-generated picture has been met with some amusement as well as criticism, with a large swath of social media users seeing it as a clear insult to the just-deceased pontiff....

Well, it seems pretty simple. Someone asked him who should be the next Pope. He made an offhand comment, which makes some sense, in that he feels capable of running things and he knows himself and doesn't know much about the various cardinals. Then someone made the AI image, and he passed it on because it was funny and provocative. It's something to think about and to distract us from other things.

You said you don’t care for it but then said we shouldn’t get sidetracked by his dog and pony show. Trouble is, these despicable acts are an integral part of his presidency. He’s preaching to the choir so that he can gain more and more unchallenged power.  He’s deflecting. And it’s working. By not calling him out, you’re empowering him. And I suspect you’re fine with that. Are you one of the 20 some percent of Americans who approve of totalitarianism?  No doubt, some here are.
