Jets request to interview Joe Brady

My comment wasn't a slight on hiring McCarthy.  Hiring McCarthy now that he is available is a big difference than the previous rumors the Bears could look into making a trade with the Cowboys before he had been fired.  Wasn't saying he would be a bad hire, saying trading for a guy who was likely getting fired would have been a dumb as trading up 1 spot to get Trubisky and paying a bounty when everyone and their mom knew SF was dead set on taking Solomon and wasn't going to move out the range to get him.

Seems like Glenn to the jets and Saleh to Jax.

 

that leaves the saints and the raiders.

 

I'm hoping McCarthy is a serious candidate in New Orleans.  Not sure he is.  
 

I think Joe Brady is smart enough to not take the saints or raiders jobs.  Wait until next year and see what’s available.

What makes you think that? Glenn is obviously the favourite but if he goes to the Jets I think McCarthy is very much in play.

He may end up in play by default if Brady doesn’t want the job.  He has been around Mickey loomis and coached in New Orleans before.

 

side note also, I believe Mickey loomis son is in the scouting department for Dallas.

 

So I am sure if they wanted McCarthy as the guy he would have been hired already.  He is probably their fall back guy.

I think they want Aaron Glenn. But if he is off the market I think McCarthy is a possibility. Interestingly the three guys currently invited back for a second (in person) interview are:

 

Glenn (tomorrow if the Jets don't hire him today);

Mike Kafka (Giants OC, former KC QB coach)

Anthony Weaver (Dolphins DC, was the Bills DL coach way back under Marrone and Pettine I think)

 

EDIT: worth saying you can't second interview coaches whose teams are still live this week.

I have heard that the Kafka interviews are like favors to the agent who Kafka is signed to.  I can’t remember which agent it is, Don Yee maybe?   But he represents most of the guys looking for jobs and they are throwing him a bone by giving Kafka interviews.

Glenn to the Jets would be another great move for the Bills by a division rival. Nothing against the man, but I dont think its much of a groundbreaking hire. It will be same ol same ol in New Jersey. And will be that way as long as you have a Woody making decisions.

 

I still worry about Brady to New Orleans. Seems like a well connected no-brainer. Hoping the Saints dont want to wait 3 weeks to make a hire. McCarthy would be a good land for them.

I would love Brady back next year.  I think it would be good move for him as well.  He has only been an OC for 1.5 seasons.  I think another year at that level would be better in the long run.

What jobs do you think would even be available next year? Giants if they have a similar season is the only one I can think of.

Obv im biased and dont want him to leave, but legitimately I dont want that for him... the place is a black hole! Literally murders the career of every QB drafted there.  HC same. You end up with a legitimate "Jets stench" on you... its like some companies would rather hire entry level to train ppl the right way, then re-train someone with previous experience.

 

Unfortunately, our Sabres also have this.  Scared to bring in even a player for fear that their stench rubs off on their stenchless roster.

 

Anybody think that the Jets wouldnt have ruined Josh?  Gross thought, but id bet heavy that hed have wound up in Darnolds shoes, no question

Anybody know if these OC meetings during a current season are remote?  They gotta be right?  Start remote-- maybe heats up and a few virtual meetings, once season is over they can get face to face.

 

Hell, id even be cool if Jets came to Buffalo and got a hotel suite to talk in, but theres no way in hell current Coordinators should be traveling to other cities for these interviews until season is over

They need a McDermott type coach to change the culture and keep Woody out of the day-to-day decision making.  I agree that Glenn doesn't seem like that kind of person.  Ironically I would have said Saleh might be a few years ago, but we know how that turned out.

Woody is known to get involved. He was the one who wanted Rodgers. Both JD and Saleh wanted Carr but were overruled by him. How can you keep him out when he is the owner and can do whatever he wants.
