Brendan Shanahan anybody?  Mike Harrington had a story about him and the Sabres in TBN

Yes. In a heartbeat.

I just don’t see a scenario where it happens if the reports are true that the Sabres are looking to hire a senior advisor to report to Kevyn Adams.

I don’t see any world where Shanahan goes from running the biggest brand in the NHL with BY FAR the most money, and having dozens of people reporting directly to him (the leafs had a GM, special advisor, FIVE assistant GMs, seven directors…) to reporting to Kevyn ****ing Adams. lmao

It was reported he turned down the team president role with the NYI because he wouldn’t get to hire his own GM right away. He ain’t coming to Buffalo to report to a GM who’s entering year 6 with no success to show for it, and who already seems to have the next head coach picked out (Seth Appert - another guy who seems to be failing upwards in Buffalo under Adams).

The only way I could see Shanahan coming here is if he was given full power over hockey ops and Pegula was willing to start spending money again.

I keep reading rumors about Rick Dudley possibly coming back to Buffalo though. I would love that hire as well, assuming he actually had some power.

Shanahan is NEVER going to come into a situation as some sort of senior whatever and not be able to choose his own GM and HC. Since we already know that Adams isn't going anywhere, and that he's going to be allowed to choose his own daddy...err...senior advisor, we can go ahead and eliminate any candidate that wouldn't participate in a hive mind.

FWIW I think Dudley is a pipe dream as well.  Why would he come into this mess when he doesn't have to? Why would he accept Adams' and Terry's terms when he doesn't have to?  Florida is humming along just fine.  Also, I would argue that Dudley and Adams would have VASTLY different ideas on how to appropriately build a hockey team and that situation would come to a head very very quickly.

This is exactly what we need to happen, but sadly I agree with you that it's a pipedream and never going to happen

Oh I agree completely; this NEEDS to happen but it has a zero percent chance of happening.

So I get to choose between Jeff Skinner getting one or Marchand getting another Cup?

Skinner has played a grand total of 11 minutes during Edmonton’s entire playoff run.

(he’s been scratched all but 1 game in the first round)

Edmonton all the way!

I’d love to see them win a cup. Not all that long ago they were the perennial joke of the NHL, and their owner was thought of as being the worst. It’s been cool to see them finally turn it around and have sustained success.

It obviously helped that they drafted + retained 2 of the best players on the planet. lol

It would also be cool to see a Canadian team get a Stanley cup win.

Yeah I've always rooted for McDavid.  He really wanted to be in Buffalo and IMO he would have been to the Sabres organization what Josh Allen is to the Bills.   Would have saved Terry Pegula from unfortunately and painfully embarrassing himself as a sports owner the way he has with the Sabres.   That lottery announcement was one of the top 5 sports tragedies in Buffalo sports history IMO and THE worst moment for the Sabres.

Canadian Hockey Over Lords had been wanting to smite Buffalo for their blocking of a franchise in Hamilton.

The McDavid lottery presented that opportunity. As great as he is, I cannot root for him.

To add, Murray’s clearly displayed disgust about losing out on McDavid, I think, kind of was a bit offensive/disrespectful towards Eichel….not that that explains the Eichel drama, but I’d be like wtf?

It also isn’t an excuse for Murray’s sitting across the street at the bars during the day.

And they're the most entertaining and probably least controversial of the remaining teams to watch.  They play fast, highly skilled, and they aren't taking cheap shots at every opportunity.

I don't believe that there is a single human being that has ever tried on a pair of skates that could individually overcome the utter stank that organization has exuded over the last decade.

Would have been insane to have Allen and McDavid playing in Buffalo at the same time

With Hyman done for the year Jeff Skinner gets to play in the Stanley Cup finals. The tradition of ex-Sabres immediately winning a Cup is still alive.

Well Skinner did score his first ever career playoff goal.
