When the institution cannot be taken the next best thing is to burn it down. There is a part of me that feels bad for her, but this isn’t why. One look at the history of American politics reveals that yeah, she would be held to a higher standard than those who run for president….the senate…Congress. If, in her interview for the job, she fabricated stories of jobs never held, bragged about class position never achieved, spoke about how colleagues she groped simply didn’t understand her, and spoke of how she kept and lost track of highly sensitive corporate documents she was never supposed to have (but good news—one box was kept pretty close to her classic 1991 Mazda Miata) —she would not have gotten the job. But…Trump, so we pretend that’s not part of the legacy of politics. The part that feels badly for her is that in spite of representing one of the premier educational institutions in the world, she was woefully underprepared for her hearing.
