At a minimum, the modest goal of the impeachment inquiry is to paint Biden as corrupt, greedy and having sold out the American people in pursuit of personal gain. When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted. It would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance. And because it is so important to protect the core belief, they will rationalize, ignore and even deny anything that doesn't fit in with the core belief. If you believe the polls, it seems to be working. Again there's more there than there was for the phone call impeachment, where nothing was proven. Again this isn't a trial, it's a political process.
