It's not so much trying to appeal to to other parts of the state or drawing in people across the country but more about drawing in a different type of fan then that goes to the games now. In that interview with Titans stadium they talk about appealing to different types of fans, from families to fans like you. That's the way leagues are heading.  I have a 4 year old and would love to go to a game. The problem is she won't sit still for a whole game. If they had an area for kids to get their wiggles out I would me more inclined to go.

Population is dwindling. Younger generation isn't having children!

The business model, Bills last of dinosaurs, wants to be moved from spending the money @ Tops, Wegmans to the League's pocket.

Old model... They have to clean up the parking lots. Ever see what the area looks like after a game? You can feed a 3rd World Country on Monday...

They are moving away from that.

Unfortunately,  Bills fans are sweater wearers and cooler draggers...

It's not about upgrading a 50 year old stadium. My point is that the new stadium is basically an updated Highmark stadium.

Agreed, with only nominal amenities seemingly, and at a significant price increase.

We'll see how it plays out.  I agree with the sentiment (was it you?) that the new stadium is designed to change the types of fans that go to the games and weed out the drunkards, of which there seem to be no shortage.  But in doing so they're going to price out a lot of other people too.

I remember threads a few years back where it seemed most of the people on this board were adamant that any new stadium should NOT have a dome.

Now it seems that most of the people complaining now want a dome.

I would have preferred a dome myself (all things being equal), but understand that a dome adds significant cost. For those wanting a dome, I wonder who they think should pay for the added costs relating to a dome.

Given the record inflation that we have had in the past year, I suspect that the ultimate cost of the stadium will be a lot more (unless they remove some features because of the increased costs).

For me, the most important thing above all else is that the Bills stay in Buffalo. If this stadium (with or without a dome) accomplishes that, I am good.

I presented the same question. Nobody had an aswer for that but sure got a solid share of eyerolls and thumbs down from the dome heads.

i'm not sure there's as much of a diverse type of fan in wny than some other areas, but i get your idea.  i'm at the point where's i'd like to bring my family.  i have a 4 and 7 year old, and i think they would love it, but it's a bit too old for them now.  it's not so much that they wouldn't sit still but i don't want them in that environment quite yet.  our family had a "rule" that you could go when you were 10, but if you're willing to sit in the clubs, is far more tame and a much better place for kids.  my wife an i were at the home opener a couple of years ago, and i was shocked how many families were in the club.

People can have a change of heart when you see the kind of weather that can cancel a home game.

Or worse...

Complainers will almost always outshout those that are applauding. It’s just the way it is. But…I don’t think the Bills are doing themselves any public relations favors by dribbling out such limited views of the new stadium.

I asked for an explanation of where the money would come from

People can have all the changes fo heart they want to have, the reality is who is picking up the extra $1 billion. Taxpayers ???

The NFL and Pegula's are not picking up the cost of a dome. There is no ROI for the extra money it would cost.

First I will say to add a dome it would less then $1 billion. The Titans new stadium with a dome is only $500 million more. The money can come for PSLs.

I said earlier for me it's less about a roof but more about what there is amenity wise. From what I posted earlier it sounds very much that the new stadium will be much like Highmark but updated with wider concourses and more food options.

If you look around at most stadiums in all sports, it's less about the game and more about the amenities in the stadium.

We have had a lot of crappy weather games that are very important over the last few years. I think that has swayed the mindset.

Using an inflation calculator, the Tottenham stadium would be $1.3B now. And that stadium covers all the seats.

I keep reading comments like this with people saying the new stadium will just be a slightly upgraded Highmark Stadium. I don’t agree. From what’s been released to date the new stadium will be a unique and modern OUTDOOR venue. If you just look around the NFL at the other outdoors stadiums, there are only two with this amount of covered seating: Miami and Seattle. The rest of the outdoor stadiums (some relatively recent) are pretty much wide open, with zero covered seating, including:

New York/New Jersey

New England

Philadelphia

Pittsburgh

Cleveland

Cincinnati

Chicago

Green Bay (recently renovated)

Kansas City (recently renovated)

San Francisco

And many of those are in some pretty ‘well-healed’ Northeastern cities. Those facilities account for virtually half of the entire NFL!

Sure. The Bills new stadium isn’t indoors. We've all known it wouldn’t be for quite some time now. But to say it’s just a newer Highmark stadium is a bit of a stretch.

NONE of these are recent. They are all decade+ old stadiums. That's what pisses me off the most. We are creating a stadium that is a slightly modern twist of an OLD stadium concept.

If you are going to do a modern stadium then AT LEAST do the Tottenham model where every seat is covered.

This quasi nonsense is sad.

I fully disagree... tired or even conversing aboiut all this non sense. It is not going to be a dome and it is not afordable thing to do in Buffalo NY regrdless

I laugh at people lining up to pay $10K PSL to enjoy ammenities.

It's not about the covered seats or the look of the stadium. My comment was more about what's in the stadium. Reading between the lines of that interview I posted compared to a similar one done for the Titans stadium you would see a huge difference. The Bills stadium sounds like the amenities will be similar to what Highmark has but updated. Where as the Titans stadium will amenities that appeal to different fan types.

Hate to break it to you and many on this board. They are trying to cater to a different fan base then what many of you are. There is a reason many stadiums, old and new are adding in bars in the corners of the stadium and kids areas. The hardcore fans base is not big enough or has enough money to afford the prices of going to games in the future

People are all over the map on this issue. Dome: no dome. Covered seats: completely covered seats. Amenities: complete guesses about lack of amenities.

I’ll try and keep putting a glass half full outlook on it.

I will have to take a look at that . . . but, more importantly:

North London and London are RED.

By the way, Tottenham is not covered because it’s NEW. Their old stadium (White Hart Lane) had covered seats. All English soccer stadiums have covered seats….even the really old rundown ones. It’s been a standard there for most of the past century. That’s most definitely NOT the standard for NFL stadiums.

Just saying.

Not sure how out of Chicago Area people would get this... BUT NBC Sports Chicago is airing:

Documentary...

"Bear Down and Out: The Chicago Bears move to the suburbs"

Building a dome in Arlington Heights, Illinois...

The Bears are calling Soldier Field a "dump." Putting a dome on it will be putting a dome a dump. 😆

They don't wanna make the same mistakes they made 20 years rehabbing Soldier Field.

As the football business changes, go big or go home the Bears are saying...

Speaking of the standard for NFL stadiums, the new standard for NFL stadiums now is a large multiple higher in quality and coolness and space than what we are getting. Sofi, for example, is 1.5 MILLION more sq feet than the new Bills stadium. Raiders new stadium is half a million sq feet larger. The Vikings stadium is nearly half a million sq feet larger.

So my point was Tottenham could at least be the middle ground. Its still not as large as the new stadiums, but it least covers the seats.

instead we are getting a slightly upgraded design of a 20 year old stadium design. That is smaller than any new NFL stadium. And doesn't cover the seats.
