What if the Bills refuse to play the Patriots?

Now that they know he will live and be Damar as they knew him (brain function wise) they can now focus more on the game and actually be emotionally available to play.

People acting like these humans should become robots and shut that off and go play a damn game while their loved ones life was still in the balance DISGUST ME!

Sorry to come across the way I did. But no one is getting it. We know they have a right to forfeit any game remaining. They have that power, there is no denying that. But bottom line is, games have to be played. They know this and as hard as it is, they have to keep going. That's all my argument is about but people aren't getting it

Appreciate the response.

I understand what you are saying, and I understand many probably feel the same way.

I hope you understand my take.

At the end of the day, all that really matters is this young man continues to improve and regains most, if not all of his pre-injury self.

It would be called a wildcat strike.

A wildcat strike is a strike by union membership that does not have union leadership authorization.

Pretty sure the union would not step in and tell the Bills, or any player wishing not to play this weekend they have to play.  Nor would the NFL.

Because those two statements contradict each other.

They can forfeit any game. They also know, they eventually have to get back to work. Not hard to comprehend

You said "We know they have a right to forfeit any remaining game" and "Bottom line, games have to be played."

If they forfeit a game then the game is not played.  Just like the Cinci/Bills game is not going to be played.  So, games do not have to be played.

Most of what you are referring to is a team level issue rather than NFL one . A team should have contingency or succession plans on how to handle impacts due to player or coach unavailability .

The  NFL already has procedures on serious player injuries on field such as potential paralysis (see Mike Utley or Kevin Everett ).  What they didn’t have is what happens if there is a traumatic injury where a player is clinically dead and is revived .

None of that stuff matters though.  If a player suffered a Kevin Everett-type injury this weekend, there is basically zero chance that the game would continue, based on the precedent set by this game.  For better or for worse, this game changed things, and the league should recognize that and start planning accordingly.  This is a good thing for some group to work on during the offseason.

For example, if there's a clear plan for how to handle cancelled games so that everybody knows how this works up front, it wouldn't be that big a deal to shut down a game if a player suffers a serious injury that involves paralysis or worse.  They just need guidelines so we're not making it up as we go along like we did this week.

Because more games have to be played. The playoffs and all that have to be played. Life goes on. Damar is alive and progressing. There's no need to even be talking about this right now

You have been in this thread the entire time claiming the Bills HAVE to play the game.  They dont HAVE to do anything.  Now you are saying both that they have a right to forfeit and they have to play the game.  Which is it?  It cant be both.  Of course life goese on.  You are correct in one thing... there is no need to even be talking about this yet here you are still talking about it.

Listening on my way home from work, Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller on their radio show stated the Bills don't have the authority to forfeit a game, that it solely resides with the NFL ie: Goodell.  Doesn't mean a team can influence a decision on way or the other, but the decision resides with the commissioner.

Thats like saying you dont have the authority to not show up to work tomorrow.

Besides all that, there is no way the NFL would force this team to play if they couldnt mentally handle it.  There is really nothing they could do if the team just didnt show up.

I expected them to play this game anyhow.  Im just arguing because certain people make fact like statements such as "they have to play the game". That just isnt true.
