However, it's starting to become (very) apparent this is ONLY true on the defensive side of the ball. Why did we give Dawson Knox a big extension, and then completely stop using him? Why did we draft James Cook and Khalil Shakir, then make no effort to get either involved in the offense? Why did we trade for Nyheim Hines and then not use him either? They need to focus on returning only. Shakir was caught in this predicament. Could not spend enough time on offense because he was studying to be a return guy. You get Hines, thought is frees up Shakir to study the offense and make him available. Bring Duke up for returns so Hines can study for offense. It will become a rotating take turns returning with none of them in the offense wasting three roster spots because we don't feel they can prepare enough. Given the time they want guys to dedicate to special teams, we would have the second coming of Tasker. Although teams play can turn a game at times our preparation looks like not enough even though we dedicate unlimited resources to the effort. We need a running game, relief out of the backfield, a competent slot guy or TE to compete against the double high look. We incorporate none of that now because the staff lacks confidence in those that will give you that. If you believe your ability to evaluate talent is superior, how do you end up with guys you are not comfortable using. If and when they play, if they excel you are proven wise, if not you are exposed for what you are. You cannot play in fear, fear of losing because of mistakes or fear of being exposed will result in poor decision making and execution. The Fear has exposed itself many times when trying to defend a lead, in bad decisions in game management and challenge decisions. The fearless one is Allen who you give no extra resources to play with. Take the training wheels off these guys, let them ride or fall but shortchanging Allen with needed weapons for opportunity will continue to end in failure. Hines was brought in to return punts and be a depth RB. As returning punts let Shakir focus on WR. Yet like last year we lack a backup TE. This team is just clueless I am a Singletary fan as a runner but if they aren't going to line him up behind the QB.......then you want the quicker option on the field. Cook and Hines are a bit better suited for the finesse running attack they want to employ, IMO. He’ll catch 0-3 passes a game for 0-20 yards. That’s what he is. And on this team, he’ll never see a traditional carry. He wasn’t that great in Indy. He’s always been an ok player. McCaffrey goes to the 49ers and he's immediately the whole offense. Toney was massively featured for KC yesterday. Yet we trade for Hines and he's on the field for 6 plays, and instead of playing Marlowe, we give Lewis his first start and he throws the game. Furthermore, we refuse to actually use James Cook or Shakir. If Beckham is smart, he won't sign here because he won't really play.
