I know this much........if this situation occurred in 1983 the player ain't going anywhere near the drunken fans in the stands.   He'd have had a glass beer bottle smashed across his teeth by an inebriated fan in a heartbeat and the cops wouldn't know who to blame.  I mean sh*t......fans used to throw D batteries at opposing players in Shea Stadium.   Fans know that the cell phones are on now too.   That actually minimized the damage.

Some players just don't know where their bread is buttered.    You ignore opposing fans.   You simply can't win an encounter with opposing fans so don't even bother.

LOL - that reminded me of a fond Yankee memory from my youth.

Yankees used to bring in opposing relief pitchers in a pin-striped Datsun that would drive along the warning track and then down the third base line. It  got pummeled with beer nightly, especially when it made the turn by the foul pole.  I always thought that was hysterical.  Of course back then it was paper beer cups and the pitcher was inside a car so it seemed pretty harmless to me.

9 straight wins........on 3 straight sweeps of bad teams.........16-6 record, best in MLB.

Judge 2 HR game.

On to Toronto who is 15-8.

Yankees minor league hitters are really struggling in general.........except for monstrous 21 year old switch hitting 1B prospect Anthony Garcia who has 6 HR in 49 AB's and 20 walks for low A Tampa.   His OPS is crazy......over 1.100.    Big guy with a big swing so probably be a few years before we know if he is going to be able to hit enough to make it to the majors but he is a specimen in that Judge/Stanton/Gallo mold with exit velo's to match.

15-7 win over CWS.

23-8........best record in baseball.

Best offensive performance by the Yankees this season.

10 runs scored with 2 outs.

Worth watching the replay  tomorrow if you missed it........great base running........1-5 hitters scored 11 runs........Stanton and Judge combined for 3 HR and 10 RBI.

These teams have played some entertaining slugfests since that "Field of Dreams" series.

LaRussa inexplicably leaves struggling RHP Joe Kelly in to face lefty hitting Anthony Rizzo with 2 outs..........then brings in a lefty to face Giancarlo Stanton..........never thought I'd see the day when a manager took out a RHP to put in a lefty to face Stanton.

You'd think with all that spending and unlimited resources they'd win more World Series.

Most teams spend a ***** ton anymore... don't be jealous b.c the Yankees are coming out on top this year.

Best Part is a Mets fan agreed with you while being a fan of a team that also is top in spending.

Life support?

MLB is the second highest revenue generating pro sports league on planet earth.......behind only the NFL, of course.

As for the sport aging out and just being for old folks.......... while overall youth sports enrollment in the US fell from 45% to 38% from 2008-2019..........baseball was unaffected by that..........it's the organized sport a US kid is most likely to play........which is why baseball continues to have a lot of fans of all ages.

We all love football.......even people like yourself who weren't athletically inclined.

But unfortunately,  football is the sport with a young people problem.    People love to watch it........but have their kids play it?   Nope.  Enrollment down from 2.5M per year to 1.9M per year in that span.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/rogerpielke/2020/01/28/the-decline-of-football-is-real-and-its-accelerating/?sh=7f1e87ab2f37

The sport is going to have to continue to become steadily less violent to keepthe talent pipeline full and extend the careers of the limited amount of talented players coming into pro football.

It will be basketball on grass............and we will retain our love for very different reasons(nostalgia and competitive balance) rather than why it was popular in the first place (a violent test of wills).

MLB is horribly run but if they get the action back into the game and cut the game times........as they are working to do..........it's hard to beat the long term outlook for a game that plays every day and doesn't leave the players crippled and poisoned from pain and PE drugs.

Another win in Chicago......10-5.

Now 24-8 record on the year.

The shots of the crowd leaving after Donaldson homers both nights were hilarious..........they need to do that more..........as soon as a dagger HR clears the fence don't bother showing the trot just go right to the fans exiting.    That's great TV.

It's the oldest average fanbase at 57. That's a problem. It's a boring game to watch on TV. Hell...it's even boring to watch in person many times.  Why do you think so many people leave before the end of the games in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings?

Other than the NFL.........what sport isn't struggling to appeal to your audiences?

So the average age of NBA fans is much younger..........it's a much easier sport to follow casually and that's their level of interest because they are busy being the workforce and then enjoying their youth.......as they endeavor to avoid spending money.

When you get older and have some equity..........it's easier to sit on the couch at night and follow a sport that plays every day.    That's just life and economics and that's a big driver in the average age of fans.    Even when I was a kid I remember people who didn't follow baseball until they retired and then they were at Dodger town in Vero Beach every day in spring etc..   It's a sport that fits people who like/need a routine.

As for people leaving games early...........each MLB game is much lower stakes because they play 162 so leaving early isn't that big of a deal.    It's a different sport.

And fwiw regarding the quality of this article........the author says that MLB instituted a pitch clock a couple years ago to speed up the game and it didn't work............in other news the NFL made 50+ yard field goals into 4 pointers.

Totally made-up sh*t.

A pitch clock has been instituted in minor league baseball and has cut game times by 20 minutes, though.   Pitch clock is next year in MLB.

I'm not here to tell you MLB doesn't have watchability and pace problems and could learn a lot from the NFL..........which has wisely not allowed traditions like blocking and tackling to get in the way of progre$$.

It's about entertainment.   MLB needs to speed up their game and make it more about action and athleticism..........they know that........but it's been a struggle forcing change because of the powerful players union and the huge money they continue to generate.    It's easy to see that $$$$$ and think you don't need change.

Tough 3-2 loss last night to CWS.

Bad approach at the plate against Keuchel........they have had a lot of trouble with him over the years.

Most perplexing thing in the organization last night was the Yanks Tampa team striking out 24 times in a 1-0 loss.   And it was against 3 different pitchers, not Randy Johnson 2.0.

Despite a bunch of top prospects, Tampa is really struggling offensively for their new manager(a hitting coach) Rachel Balkovec, the first female manager in pro baseball.   Gonna' be awkward if they have to replace her after the season but they have a bunch of freak athletes in that lineup and they simply aren't producing.

The only thing money promises you is having a chance. That is what people never understood.

I think the difference between the Mets and Yankees is that the Mets have spent money stupidly (Cano) and the Yankees bought good players, only to let Girardi - who I consider to be a top-notch Manager - go, only to replace him with an unproven, unexperienced bean counter.

To that note, the Mets have also made bad decisions with GM and Manager hires in recent years.  I feel good about the current regime, but the annual injury bug has already been biting.

I've always maintained that, had the Yankees retained Girardi, their WS drought would have ended the year(s) after his departure.

MLB best 28-9 record after a third straight W in Baltimore, 3-2 behind Cole and Holmes,  while resting both LeMahieu and Stanton.

Dow note though,  looks like Luis Gil is headed for Tommy John surgery so he probably won't be back in the mix until 2024 now.

But sounds like Domingo German might be back after the all-star break, maybe sooner.

I was just talking to @Mike in Horseheads(Orioles fan) about how it felt like the Yankees play the Orioles every week.

After this current 3-game series, 29% of Baltimore's games will have been against the Yankees after 45 games.

Yeah, those Yankees are a steam roller, alright.

Mets have played some formidable opponents to begin the season and I'd rather have it that way.  One really can't deny that playing almost 1/3 of your first 45 games against the same (sorry, Mike) horrible team kind of makes those 30 wins look a little less impressive.  And I think it's a crappy way for a team like Baltimore to have to begin its season.  It was nearly imminent that they'd be double-digit games back this early.  I think it's poor scheduling.

Wrong, might want to check that again. You have wins over the Phillies, Marlins, Nationals for most of your games all who either have a record around the same as Orioles or worse.

Imagine being a Mets fan thinking you are so smart but not realizing you played 16 games against teams with record either around the same as the O's or worse...

Also doesn't help b/c you can argue that its b.c the O's had to play the League best Yankees 10 times is why they have 17 wins... but no excuses for 3 different teams with bad records.

The Mets have played PHI, ARI, SF, ATL, COL and STL - all teams with 19 or more wins, a total of 33/43 games.  Their other two opponents, SEA and WAS, have 14 and 17 wins, respectively.

The Yankees have played BOS, TOR and CHI - all teams with 19 or more wins, a total of 19/41 games.  Their other opponents (wins):  BAL (17), DET (14), CLE (17), KC (14), TEX (18).

17 wins is only 2 away from 19... 16 games of teams with bad records. Hide your jealousy better, Mets fans can't handle having a good record, this is how you act?

It's OK you can learn from the best organization in the history of American Sports how to win and not look like a Jets fan.

Here come the jealous Mets fans, they hate winners and don't know how to act like one.  The more you post here the better the Yankees must be playing.

Yankees must have won again, Mets fan reacted to this post.

Classy Mets fans dragging the Orioles through the mud because they had to play the Yankees.

LOL, no wonder everyone hates Yankee fans...  You'd think such an organization, with overwhelming financial advantages, would have actually won a title more recently than 2009.

You would think...........but the ownership is the greediest in sports.    Two decades ago George used to spend $250M to make $30M.    20 years later his son Hal spends less than $220M to make about $500M.    I mean they own their own TV network and are worth almost 50% more than the next closest team (Dodgers).   They are printing money and when it comes that easy it tends to feed the greed.    Best thing that happened to Yankee fans was the Mets getting sold to a spender.    Hal has been able to lean on the fact that the Mess weren't spending money.    Not anymore.

But the reason everyone is either a Yankee fan or hates the Yankees is because they always win.

Grasp that........they haven't had a losing season since the Bills were in their SB run of the early 90's.

They will cruise to their 30th consecutive winning season this year.

There is obviously not anyone in major sport close to that.

Second longest streak all time.......to their own run of 39 straight from the 1920's into the 1960's........and they will likely break that streak.

As for whether they win more than 5 WS titles in that time..........that may be up to Hal wanting it bad enough.    He hasn't been willing to go all-in like they did in 2009 when George was still alive.........or like the Dodgers, Red Sox and Astros have at various times over the past decade.
