Gabriel Davis is becoming this guy. Look no further than his high-point catch against the Chargers on Sunday.

Isaiah Hodgins has a chance to become this guy, too, but he's apparently redshirting this year.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Hodgins.. Both he and Gabe Davis had great camps.. I’d be surprised if Hodgins amounts to something but we’ll see.

The thing that I don't immediately see for Hodgins is opportunity.

Diggs
Brown

Beasley
Davis
Roberts
McKenzie

Those six guys are locked in. The top five are indisputable. I doubt McKenzie's going anywhere, either, given his specific skillset, knowledge of each receiver spot, and emergency special teams utility.

So with six receivers locked in, how does Hodgins get on the field?

The soonest I see this changing is next season. If the Bills decide to cut John Brown and save some money (which I don't necessarily think they should do), then that would open up a spot for Hodgins to try to make the roster. Still, his best shot at doing so would likely be to carve out a meaningful special teams role for himself.

I was just about to say that about Brown.. but realistically he may have a few more years left.. I think eventually Gave Davis takes over that #2 spot.. Beasley is also getting a bit long in the tooth.. Regardless, given that we are a passing team I see no movement on our depth chart unless the Bills drafted a speed WR/return man to take over for Roberts... (which is not a bad idea to consider in 2021) None of which Hodgins can do..

Hodgins will have no shot (other than injury) and McKenzie may get replaced by a speedster

Does Kumerow and his special team abilities make Tyler Matakevich and his 3.35 mil cap savings expendable in 2021?

No. Matakevich is a specialist who was specifically recruited for special teams.

Kumerow was signed to be a WR to be developed and was in sync with Aaron Rodgers (who was unhappy he was let go) and like most rookies need to play special teams but has not shown he capable of replacing anyone.

You’re not saying Hodgins is on IR with a phantom injury, are you?

Not the fastest guy on the field but he tries hard. I would say he is better then Chris Hogan

His 40 of 4.50 secs is very close to Beasley, 4.49, Diggs and Roberts 4.46 and he is a much bigger guy.

His 3 cone was faster than Diggs, Beasley, and Brown. He is fast and agile, especially for a guy his size. Trying hard is always a good thing but it's even better when your big fast and agile.

Agreed that was the original intention but I'm not sure we can keep Matakevich with the way the cap is going down.  Seems like too much a luxury.
