Trump allies Sidney Powell and Lin Wood urge Georgians to boycott Senate runoffs

Sidney Powell, a former lawyer for the Trump campaign, led a rally in a northern Atlanta suburb in which she exhorted hundreds of the president’s supporters not to participate in the Senate runoffs in part because she said the state’s voting machines are not trustworthy.

“I would encourage all Georgians to make it known that you will not vote at all unless your vote is secure,” Powell said. “There should not be a runoff. Certainly not on Dominion machines.”

Powell claimed falsely that the machines, manufactured by Dominion Voting Systems, were rigged to weight Biden’s votes more heavily than Trump’s, that a hand recount was a sham, and that state and local election officials have been destroying ballots and other evidence of fraud. She has presented no proof of her claims.

Lin Wood, another Trump ally who helped lead Wednesday’s event, made similar claims, stating, “We’re not going to vote on your damn machines made in China. We’re going to vote on machines made in the USA!”

Wood took aim at just about every state Republican leader in Georgia, including Loeffler, Perdue, Gov. Brian Kemp, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and the state party chair, David Shafer, even though some of them have stood by Trump and echoed his false claims of fraud.

“If they don’t fight for Donald Trump, including Loeffler and Perdue, send them all home!” Wood exclaimed to the crowd. “You are criminals!”

New details emerged on Wednesday regarding an investigation the FBI conducted for stock trades the senator made based on information he allegedly gleaned from briefings, for which he has been cleared. The New York Times reported that, in the course of that investigation, the FBI looked into another matter: “possible insider trading in his sale of more than $1 million worth of stock in a financial-analysis firm, Cardlytics.” On this, too, no criminal charges were brought and Perdue denies that the activity presented a conflict, but evidence in that case suggests that, contrary to previous claims, he did exercise day-to-day control at least of some of his stock trades. This offers more support for Ossoff’s claims that Perdue behaved unethically. (Walter Shaub, the former head of the Office of Government Ethics, points out that there is another potential problem — aside from insider trading — with the Cardlytics trade: “He paid consideration to purchase the now public stocks by exercising stock options on terms not generally available to the public. This raises a question as to whether he violated the STOCK Act of 2012.”)

An examination of Mr. Perdue’s stock trading during his six years in office reveals that he has been the Senate’s most prolific stock trader by far, sometimes reporting 20 or more transactions in a single day.

The Times . . . found that Mr. Perdue’s transactions accounted for nearly a third of all Senate trades reported in the past six years. His 2,596 trades, mostly in stocks but also in bonds and funds, roughly equal the combined trading volume of the next five most active traders in the Senate.

These included trades in industries related to business before Senate committees on which he sat. (Per the Times: “Nearly half of Mr. Perdue’s FireEye trades, for example, occurred while he sat on the cybersecurity panel, a role that potentially could have provided him with nonpublic information about companies like FireEye.”) This is the epitome of the “swamp” Trump and his ilk vowed to drain when they came to Washington.

Ossoff has called Perdue a “crook,” arguing that failure to be indicted is not the preferred standard for a U.S. senator and that Perdue used his position to enrich himself. He also points out that the incumbent is ducking debates, thereby avoiding embarrassing questions about the issue.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Thursday declined to take up a challenge to the presidential election filed by President Trump’s campaign, a new blow to his floundering efforts to overturn the election.

 

Trump declined Thursday to say whether he retains confidence in Attorney General William P. Barr, who this week undercut the president by saying he had not seen any evidence of fraud on a scale that would alter the election results.

Meanwhile, Vice President-elect Kamala D. Harris named Tina Flournoy as her chief of staff and selected other key aides Thursday as the incoming administration of President-elect Joe Biden forged ahead with its transition to power.

The Fox News poll asked people whether “this presidential election has made you more or less likely to vote in the next presidential election.” Overall, 75 percent say it has made them more likely, while just 11 percent say it has made them less likely.

But there is a partisan split. While 84 percent of Democrats say this election has made them more likely to vote in the next one, just 69 percent of Republicans say the same. Only 6 percent of Democrats say they’re less likely to vote, while 16 percent of Republicans say the same.

What’s more, the group with the highest “less likely” number? Trump voters. Fully 19 percent — about 1 in 5 — say they are less likely to vote in the next presidential election, vs. just 5 percent of Biden voters. No other group broken out in the poll says it is as turned off as Trump voters; the next highest numbers come from voters under 45 years old, Whites without college degrees and rural voters, with the latter two groups overlapping significantly with Trump’s base.

I think that many die-hard Trumplicans aren't regular voters, ie, people who vote regularly in most local, state, and federal elections, but are people who came out  to vote specifically for Trump.  Many are simply not in the habit of voting regularly.  These people would probably be the most disillusioned by their candidate losing but they might also be less likely to vote in any election without Trump at the top of the ticket.

1) 2018 - Trump promises a middle class tax cut if people vote Republican

2) 2020 - Trump promises to forgive Social Security tax deferral if elected (by the way, a lot of people are only weeks away to a big surprise in their paycheck because of this)

3) 2020 - McConnel says we need to give people money in the stimulus bill so they vote for us.

For a third day in a row, early in-person voting for the Senate runoff races in Georgia outpaced the equivalent day before the general election: On Wednesday, 149,000 Georgians voted in person, compared with 144,000 who had voted Oct. 14.

A total of 487,000 people have already voted early in person over the first three days of in-person voting, in addition to 427,000 people who have cast their ballot by mail. In total this means that 914,000 people have already voted, which is just below the 1 million people who had voted 19 days before the general election.

Among the ballots cast, 39 percent come from voters who participated in the Democratic primary in June, 25 percent from people who voted in the Republican primary, and 34 percent from those who did not participate in any primary.

The Democratic advantage is now below where it was at this point in mid-October, when more than 41 percent had been Democratic primary participants (and 25 percent Republican). One cause of this is lower vote-by-mail participation than in October, when at this point nearly 600,000 had cast their ballots by mail.

This means Democrats are less likely to gain an early advantage that slowly decreases over time.

Romney took some pretty big actions of country over party these past four years. Two off the top of my head: voting against getting rid of the Affordable Cares Act and voting to yes on impeachment.

 

Neither of those votes were particularly good for Romney as they upset the Trump base.
