Anyone on this board at this moment can throw a rock and hit someone going through or recovering from cancer. We don't know who these people are, so a bit of courtesy would be terrific. I agree on being courteous to a point , but forced compliance is another thing altogether. At least it is to me. Anyway, I don’t think masks are appropriate for say a restaurant. You’re there to eat, drink and socialize. Those with conditions that leave them vulnerable can wear a mask, limit their exposure to others and make other lifestyle modifications. That includes not going to these types of establishments. Others may be more willing to part ways with freedoms but I am not. I understand if others don’t agree, though. 5 minutes ago, Buffalo_Gal said: As I understand it, a mask protects others from you. Your sneeze particles get caught in the mask instead of becoming airborne, and your cough whatevers same (caught up in the mask). I suppose if someone were to sneeze in your face, you (generic you) would be protected at nose and mouth, but not at your eyes. I wonder if it helps her not breathe in other people's sneezes and coughs expectorants, assuming they are not wearing masks to catch them? I think it does provide some protection, but it probably would be best to move away from that person or at least stay 6 feet or more apart. It’s not foolproof to be sure.
B-Man Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 I know that our local (rural) hospital, the Olean General, has now asked for "voluntary" layoffs. REOPEN UPSTATE ! . 1 3

It is a slippery slope. {slaps forehead} What am I saying? Our government would never overreach! /sarc tag Masks are impossible in a restaurant. I agree that people who are vulnerable may want to avoid restaurants in the near-term, or eat out on the patio in the sun (eating in the sun makes some people pukey though).

B-Man Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Pro-Democracy Protestors in North Carolina Face off Against Cosplaying Pro-Regime Counter Demonstrators Just some data points. 1) Your choice of occupation does not give you a right to restrict my ability to live as I wish and to legally earn a living, 2) the reason that you have time to be a lapdog of fascism is because you don’t have actual patients to tend to 3) turning out just a dozen people to protest is not a sign of strength, particularly when you are following the lead of totalitarians everywhere. 1

I get they're a bit annoying, especially if you wear glasses, but all you're essentially doing is protecting other people from you. We have no idea what is wrong with the person in front of us in line, or passing us on the street. They could have a compromised immune system, but THEIR mask doesn't help them. So assuming masks really do protect others from us, it seems we should naturally want to do this. Of course, then there will be masks everywhere and CA an NY will ban plastic masks and make us use recyclable masks so we don't infect the delta smelt, but one problem at a time. I agree....I have been promoting a phased in opening up the economy approach for a while, with that said when my family goes out we wear the masks...We try to keep a reasonable distance. Even though there is strong data that supports that the fears are overblown, we still want to do our part. I'd hate for any of us to get the Virus and then pass it on to anyone and then something happen to that person. So while I will not let the Virus impact our lives nearly as much as the doomsdayers who seemingly want to stay shut in till perpetuity, we want to be as responsible as we can about it. 1

Hard to justify a position not to wear a mask because it's hard to breathe and itches. No kidding. No one love it. But when we lift this thing and I am eager to do so sensibly, case counts will go up, hospitals will get busier, and more people will die. Shouldn't we take the easy steps to keep that to a minimum? Face masks in stores, social distance reasonably. Avoid large crowds. Extra handwashing and sanitizing of hands. Extreme precautions around at-risk people. Our business will stay remote for a while just because we can. None of these things are huge. We know this is an extremely contagious disease and it will kill a lot more people no matter what % the mortality measure is. The least we can do is our part to minimize that, even if it's kind of annoying. 3
B-Man Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 California to close all beaches after crowds ignore social distancing rules by Kenneth Garger Original Article California will reportedly close all beaches and state parks beginning Friday after swells of beachgoers fled to the shore last weekend in defiance of social distancing rules. The state’s governor, Gavin Newsom, will formally announce the decision Thursday, according to a memo outlining the move obtained by FOX 11.“After well-publicized media coverage of overcrowded beaches this past weekend, in violation of Governor Newson’s shelter in place order, the governor will be announcing tomorrow that beaches and all state parks in California will be closed, effective Friday, May 1,” This weekend seems like a good time to take a stand in California. If tens of thousands show up............what will be their response ? . 2

I definitely see/hear three frustrated people arguing and displaying very little respect for one and other. I’m not quite certain about the exchange at the end...they apparently knew who the lady was as they were at her house and the first officer called her Amy. The give me your name and middle initial question was grade schoolish, but as they were putting her on a naughty list probably par for the course. Observation: the officers were not wearing masks and clearly were with 6 feet of one another when this started. I also feel like I hear a wood chipper struggling off in the distance, almost as it it’s trying to shred a human leg. Weird.

That's going to be interesting to see if that Health Department dicta holds. The mayor of Knox County is pretty libertarian. He's also ~7 feet tall, and a professional wrestler. This is their mayor: (I'm not joking.) 1
