We should be full open as normal, here are the risks and the precautions you, the individual should be free to take.

If a locality has a hospitalization issue, that locality should handle it.  The localities should be divided by Regions and the Goveror giving weekly updates on the status of each.  It is not in their job description to micromanage a freaking virus spread the world over.  At worst, you get exactly what's happened.  No one trusts them.

So local leader should be able to set their own requirements including mask requirements or quarantines of people traveling from hot spots and the police should enforce those rules?  Brian Kemp should not be suing the mayor and city council of Atlanta?  Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump should not be mandating fully open schools across the state of Florida or the country?

Region should be following 2 guidelines.

Overwhelmed hospitals and ICU beads.

Report updates to the Governor.

If the data does not support ANY of those measures bc those 2 things are not close to happening, the Governor should absolutely be telling them "open."

DeSantis is telling the State of Florida that hospitals are fine, we should be in school.  Localities like Broward should be providing data that says they can't.

This is the point we are now at based on SIX MONTHS of data.

Florida has more infections on a daily basis than Europe does.  Your guidance sucks.  It is totally reactionary after disaster has happened.

Our greatest enemy is fear...

I think it's about time people considered the degree to which fear is being promoted to control you.

How many asymmetries and contradictions about this Covid 19 crap do people have to put up with before the light bulb comes on?

I don't think a single state met the criteria.  If there were any, I bet you could count them on one hand.

I'd accept it if we could keep the reproduction number to below 1.  That hasn't happened.

From where I sit, it is you who doesn't care.

Your reply to a well thought out statement makes me think you work for the media. picked out very little of what he said and replied with your opinion. That said here in NNY we have been in Phase 4 for 5 weeks. I think we are in Phase 4 with 3 amendments to the phase. Our governor pulled off the largest genocide of our patriarch and matriarch the states have ever seen and we are still waiting to find out if there is even a stage 5 available.  People say Trump has no plan. yes he does. Open the economy! States have the responsibility to call the shots at this level. Not the President.  I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Our constitutional rights are being violated by shutting down!

From Dr. Fauci:

“Chickenpox is a virus. Lots of people have had it, and probably don't think about it much once the initial illness has passed. But it stays in your body and lives there forever, and maybe when you're older, you have debilitatingly painful outbreaks of shingles. You don't just get over this virus in a few weeks, never to have another health effect. We know this because it's been around for years, and has been studied medically for years.

Herpes is also a virus. And once someone has it, it stays in your body and lives there forever, and anytime they get a little run down or stressed-out they're going to have an outbreak. Maybe every time you have a big event coming up (school pictures, job interview, big date) you're going to get a cold sore. For the rest of your life. You don't just get over it in a few weeks. We know this because it's been around for years, and been studied medically for years.

HIV is a virus. It attacks the immune system and makes the carrier far more vulnerable to other illnesses. It has a list of symptoms and negative health impacts that goes on and on. It was decades before viable treatments were developed that allowed people to live with a reasonable quality of life. Once you have it, it lives in your body forever and there is no cure. Over time, that takes a toll on the body, putting people living with HIV at greater risk for health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, diabetes, bone disease, liver disease, cognitive disorders, and some types of cancer. We know this because it has been around for years, and had been studied medically for years.

Now with COVID-19, we have a novel virus that spreads rapidly and easily. The full spectrum of symptoms and health effects is only just beginning to be cataloged, much less understood.

So far the symptoms may include:
Fever
Fatigue
Coughing
Pneumonia
Chills/Trembling
Acute respiratory distress
Lung damage (potentially permanent)
Loss of taste (a neurological symptom)
Sore throat
Headaches
Difficulty breathing
Mental confusion
Diarrhea
Nausea or vomiting
Loss of appetite
Strokes have also been reported in some people who have COVID-19 (even in the relatively young)
Swollen eyes
Blood clots
Seizures
Liver damage
Kidney damage
Rash
COVID toes (weird, right?)

People testing positive for COVID-19 have been documented to be sick even after 60 days. Many people are sick for weeks, get better, and then experience a rapid and sudden flare up and get sick all over again. A man in Seattle was hospitalized for 62 days, and while well enough to be released, still has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Not to mention a $1.1 million medical bill.

Then there is MIS-C. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children is a condition where different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs. Children with MIS-C may have a fever and various symptoms, including abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, neck pain, rash, bloodshot eyes, or feeling extra tired. While rare, it has caused deaths.

This disease has not been around for years. It has basically been 6 months. No one knows yet the long-term health effects, or how it may present itself years down the road for people who have been exposed. We literally *do not know* what we do not know.

For those in our society who suggest that people being cautious are cowards, for people who refuse to take even the simplest of precautions to protect themselves and those around them, I want to ask, without hyperbole and in all sincerity:

How dare you?

How dare you risk the lives of others so cavalierly. How dare you decide for others that they should welcome exposure as "getting it over with", when literally no one knows who will be the lucky "mild symptoms" case, and who may fall ill and die. Because while we know that some people are more susceptible to suffering a more serious case, we also know that 20 and 30-year-olds have died, marathon runners and fitness nuts have died, children and infants have died.

How dare you behave as though you know more than medical experts, when those same experts acknowledge that there is so much we don't yet know, but with what we DO know, are smart enough to be scared of how easily this is spread, and recommend baseline precautions such as:
Frequent hand-washing
Physical distancing
Reduced social/public contact or interaction
Mask wearing
Covering your cough or sneeze
Avoiding touching your face
Sanitizing frequently touched surfaces

The more things we can all do to mitigate our risk of exposure, the better off we all are, in my opinion. Not only does it flatten the curve and allow health care providers to maintain levels of service that aren't immediately and catastrophically overwhelmed; it also reduces unnecessary suffering and deaths, and buys time for the scientific community to study the virus in order to come to a more full understanding of the breadth of its impacts in both the short and long term.

I reject the notion that it's "just a virus" and we'll all get it eventually. What a careless, lazy, heartless stance.”

Yesterday, Monday, even with an expectation of some weekend catch up, only ONE state (TX) registered in low triple digit Covid fatalities. FORTY states reported either single digits or zero deaths. We need a ‘national policy’ why again? Policy yes, mandate no.

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Coronavirus cases in Florida continue to surge, and hospitalizations in Miami-Dade County hit a new high as intensive care units are at about 127% capacity. Daily new cases have tripled in just a month in the Sunshine State, with more than 12,000 Floridians confirmed as newly infected on Sunday alone.

The state now has more than 350,000 cases and more than 5,000 deaths, state data shows. If Florida was a country, it would rank seventh on the global tally of the most infected nations.

The numbers are trending in an alarming direction.

“Yeah, this is scary. I mean, now every day is over 10,000 it’s almost like the norm,” said Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernandez on CNN Monday morning. “It’s a breaking point. Now we’re at a critical stage and more than ever, we have to unite.”

Well, they aren't using Florida Panther's Arena, so stack all the dead there.  Keep 'em at a cool 32F.

Tibs and others:

Florida is fascinating. They are quickly approaching the total number of cases reported in NY state, with almost 400,000 total cases.....BUT....the number of deaths in Florida is still only about 15% of the number they experienced in NY. Something has changed, with the virus itself or our response to it. I recall when all the pandemic alarmists on here kept screaming that NY didn’t have an especially elderly population. Are they going to same the same about Florida now?

Fauci seems like a nice enough man. The problem is he’s only focused on health studies through the eyes of an academic professor. It’s not his job to consult the President on the other implications of lockdowns. Fauci has a pretty easy gig really. Which explains why he’s been in Washington for so long.

In a sense, you have to treat Florida as going through their first peak, compounded by that far greater availability of testing than what existed in April.  In that light, it will have higher positive tests.  But if you want to take a look at the severity of the infestation, Florida is nowhere near Europe, and most certainly not in the same stratosphere as the Northeast US.

The real COVID apocalypse is coming in about a week, now that there's more evidence that AZ, FL & TX are peaking.  Some people are going to lose their minds when there are no more graves to dance on.

BTW, noticed you quietly dropped off the HCQ thread.  Why?

That's all he is.  But the media keeps holding him up like he is the be all end all for policy decisions.

That’s because they only want to talk to ‘experts’ that agree with their already baked in storyline. What’s happening in these southern states is EXACTLY what anyone could’ve predicted. The virus is transferred from person to person. That transfer was slowed by the lack of mobility of the American populace, not by masks or no masks. Out here in california we’ve been masked up for MONTHS! But....still the virus gets through, one person at a time. I’m just happy to see the fatality rate is way, way, way lower than it was in the NE.
