Sugar Nipples is holding his daily presser, said next week NYS DOH will be launching statewide antibody testing next week.  Had a slide showing how few infections upstate compared to the NY Metro area. Sounds like he is feeling the heat to reopen upstate...

The trouble is I would guess the more intense heat is coming from his party.  What is happening in NYS is the showcase for the Democrats in terms of ultimately setting up a nanny state.  The Democrats for years have felt the time has come where there will not be another Republican governor elected in the state of New York and at the moment are no doubt feeling their oats on this.  Cuomo said no re-open before May 15 during the second half of last week and I don't see where he is going to back away from that.

This is the single most profound thing to come out of the past 4 years (even though I acknowledge it's long been a problem, and one many understood to be a problem even before 2016). Many millions agree with your stance, who before 2016, never would have even debated the point, let alone come to this conclusion. Losing control of the narrative, and thus their ability to control us as a population, is their biggest fear. And it's happened almost overnight (from a historical perspective). That's both empowering, and dangerous going forward.

Not really.  The majority of Americans in nearly every national poll feel unsafe about going out in public and approve of the lockdowns.  These protests are a vocal minority.  Until you can get some kind of effective treatment, the number of deaths go significantly down, or develop a vaccine that fear won't dissipate (especially in what they went through and are still going through in NYC).  There'd be more backlash against him if he opened things back up too quickly.

Doctor says coronavirus could be spreading through farts – but experts aren’t so sure

Australian doctor Andy Tagg pointed out that farting could cause coronavirus after analysing a series of tests take from coronavirus patients earlier this year.

He cited tests that revealed the virus was present in the faeces of 55 per cent of patients with Covid-19.

And medics have previously warned farts contain tiny poo particles that can spread bacteria.

Dr Tagg wrote: “Well, SARS-CoV-2 can be detected in faeces and has been detected in an asymptomatic individual up to 17 days post-exposure.”

The doctor added that previous tests have shown farts have the power to spray talcum powder long distances. ...

I better not get it then, I would be a super spreader!

You're familiar with the term soft racism, right?  Aside from the opinion evening shows I saw the media pre 2016 as actively engaging in a soft media bias.  Where they weren’t overtly advocating a position but they still engaged in a form of bias in the way they question/grilled conservative lawmakers markedly different than Democratic Lawmakers AND in the stories they decided to run with which would be more sympathetic to left leaners as opposed to right leaners.

That soft form of media bias has been absolutely obliterated in the age of Trump.  They believe they have a license now to advocate because they honestly believe they have the moral high ground.   And now that they believe they have the moral imperative to openly advocate for positions it creates a circle-jerk of sorts because each journo wants to out do the next left wing journo in who can get Trump with a gotcha clickbait headline and to make a twitter name for themselves.  Which the rush to try to play these gotcha games deludes not only the quality but the accuracy of their stories.

By extension they now engage in the same sort of journalistic malpractice with other conservatives as well.

Journalism is an institution that is profoundly broken.

I wanna see how many people show up in Albany,  that will be telling.

Speakeasy's are already popping up. There is a social club I will not name in a location I will not disclose where the members park in an open big box store parking lot next door, and sneak in the back to access the bar and dining.

Despite Sugar Nipples deeming gun stores "non-essential" and not allowed to be open, they are still open and selling by appointment. You call, tell em what you want, make an appointment. You park out back, out of view of the road and call the store to let em know you are there. They then unlock the back door and you go in and conduct business.

I saw appx 20 vehicles in the parking lot of a bowling alley when I was out driving with my daughter earlier, people all out of their cars having a good old time.

The resistance to these draconian measures is very real, especially upstate.

You can feel the way if you want but that will not change my opinion one bit.  Getting a party to line up behind a POTUS candidate has always been about bowing to the masses in that party but the clearest message as of 2016 and 2020 is you have to play ball or get the rug pulled out from under you.  If Cuomo has any aspirations about the White House he is going to have to tote the messages that come from the DNC no matter how extreme that they may be.  The Democrats want New York to be the first in adopting a heavy socialist policy as a model to draw fringe voters in other states to the voting halls in those states.

Oh, there's no changing opinions when it comes to political views.  Well aware of that.  I was talking more about the political danger of opening up too soon.  Especially in NYC.  Long term I agree that he can't embrace the far left policies as this primary clearly showed this party is not willing to go there.

The biggest speakeasies right now (nationwide) are hairdressers and barbers. If you know the password, and ask very nicely as a longtime customer, they may even do a home visit.

When people ask “what’s the first thing you’ll do when businesses open back up?”  Get my damn hair cut. Sure it’s nice at 59 to still have a full head of hair but it’s out of control.

I dispute that interpretation of the polls.  The way the polls are worded on the surface seem to suggest that but they really don’t

Here is how they are worded:

What worries you more, that the U.S will move too quickly in loosening the restrictions or take too long?

That is a false choice.  That is either a black or white option.   Of course most people will say that they don’t want to open it up “too soon”.   Key word “too” .    Too soon implies lots of immediate negative connotations to it.

If the poll just added a little bit of nuance to it such as:

Which do you prefer,?

That the US opens up parts of the economy immediately,

or wait until your state and local governments determine its safe to open up parts of the economy

or wait until after there is an effective cure/vaccine  to open up parts of the economy?

That would be a much more informative and substantive poll question than providing a false dichotomy.

and I bet you the first two options would be higher than the last one.

Those positions with each and passing day will continue to move in the direction of normalcy.

I am counting the days until May 15th, and hope Cuomo opens up "upstate" long before that. My first call? My hairdresser. He's not doing underground styling (think of how stupid that sounds)  because if he was? I'd have already done it. I just hope he doesn't retire after this long shut down.

My father lives in a nursing home in NYS. They have already had staff bring in cases (I posted pages ago about the letters my mother has received). It sucks right now for the elderly as they are most susceptible.  But the isolation must be horrible.
