Is it cowardice or political posturing?

Now he appoints his personal attorney who intends to interview her as she sits in prison doing her 20-year sentence. I’d bet that the purpose of the interview is to get her to make some statement which will solve Trumps current political problem with Epstein, in exchange for a secret favor from Trump. This is totally normal for a President. Has there ever been a president with more of his associates in prison? Do you believe that there is a "some statement which will solve Trumps current political problem with Epstein"?
B-Man Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Trump admin bid to unseal trove of Jeffrey Epstein grand jury transcripts denied by federal judge by David Propper A federal judge shot down the Trump administration’s bid to release troves of grand jury transcripts tied to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein Wednesday, according to court papers. The swift rejection in the Florida court came after the Department of Justice requested the information be disclosed in a Friday motion as pressure mounts on the president and his top officials to shed more light on Epstein and those in his orbit. Judge Robin Rosenberg claimed in her ruling that the court’s “hands are tied,” with district courts typically not allowed to unseal grand jury testimony in most cases https://nypost.com/2025/07/23/us-news/trump-admin-bid-to-unseal-trove-of-jeffrey-epstein-grand-jury-transcripts-denied-by-federal-judge/

It still stinks like yesterdays dirty diapers See, I don't think it's cowardice at all. I see it as political posturing, ugly though it may be. Let's be fair Mup--it's quite obvious the Russiagate fiasco was nearly 100% political posturing in the Joseph McCarthy mode. Had Obama had any sense of decency or desire for unity, he could have quickly and efficiently dispelled the Clinton narrative by stating that the Clinton team was working with a foreign national to sow discontent about the safety and security of our elections. It blossomed from there of course, but we know this to be true: Obama was a typical politician, as was HRC, John Brennan and the like--they manipulated the emotions of a certain number of American voters just jonesing for a great Russian crime drama knowing full well they would buy it hook, line and sinker. I don't think that was cowardice at all. It was a coordinated attempt to overturn the results of a free and fair election. That's why Trump launched Stop the Steal, it made perfect sense to do so. The Obama/Clinton approach worked very, very well to cause anger, frustration and discontent amongst the populace. Trump simply followed suit with his own unique spin on it. Both coordinated smears sucked, both drove a wedge between people if they allowed it to, but really---what would we expect? 1 1
The Frankish Reich Posted July 24 Posted July 24 4 hours ago, muppy said: DUH he is in the files. Who else? That's the weirdest thing about this. Of course Trump is in "the files." The files likely include all kinds of public information like the photos we've already seen (Epstein with Trump and the Clintons) and the flight logs (same). So there's really not much new here, except for the Streisand Effect amplified by Trump's ham-handed attempts to say "nothing to see here." The Epstein Birthday book submission is creepy of course, but again, it's not like we don't know that Trump proudly associated himself with the Epstein lifestyle of hitting on young women; I guess the dividing line is "yeah, but they were all of the legal age of consent." So it's the "I may be a creep, but I'm not a criminal" public defense. In other words, he's a Republican Bill Clinton. The Democrats were just too slow to make the pivot from downplaying Epstein to playing him up. That's because the Clintons wouldn't go away. Although Hillary lurks and acts like she'd be ready to run again if drafted, that ship has sailed. The Clintons are now peripheral to the Democratic mainstream, which has shifted farther left. Meanwhile, Trump is the Republican Party, nothing more or less. So the Dems have a lot less to lose by more reporting like "Clinton/Trump Both Loved Epstein and His Girls." They didn't seem to realize this until about six weeks ago. Turnabout is fair play in politics. I saw an interview with an attorney for some Epstein victims where he said that the executors of Epstein's estate (pretty much independent lawyers) likely have the Birthday Book and that Congress (or, for that matter, the WSJ now that it's been stupidly sued by Trump) can simply subpoena it. Prediction: it will emerge, and it will be a kind of National Directory of Scumbags. By the way, anything the Trump Administration comes out with about "interviewing" Ghislaine Maxwell is only going to make this worse. Trump can pardon her or commute her sentence (I can't imagine him doing that before January 2029, when I can really really imagine it) so we can only assume that anything she comes out with would exonerate Trump and perhaps throw the Clintons under the bus. The incentive structure is all in one direction. People may be fools, but not so much that they'd buy that. 1

Yes and no. In the interview he first says yes and then crawfishes and says he'd have to look at it first, lot of fake stuff. Ok. That's the yes part. The no part is that he did campaign on "draining the swamp" and dismantling the "deep state". You know, no more powerful rich people breaking laws and with the help of the deep state getting away with it. Now not releasing info about a pedophile because he was your friend and some powerful people could go down so he punts sounds very swampy and deep statey to me and many others including many Republicans. Does it not to you? 1

Andy1 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 9 hours ago, Pokebball said: Do you believe that there is a "some statement which will solve Trumps current political problem with Epstein"? The problem seems to be with his base who have been fed the story of Democrat run child sex rings led by HRC in the back of pizza restaurants. Epstein and his actions were part of that narrative centered around evil, godless democrats. If Maxwell makes a statement, likely in exchange for pardon, absolving Trump and implicating or suggesting Dems were involved, his base will swallow that hook, line and sinker. All Trump needs is plausible deniability. It certainly appears that there are reasons that the leaders of both parties don’t want the information released. Trump is acting guilty as hell. Time will tell. 1
