The bridge is 60 years old and needs replacement. So the government will have to do one of the following: $1,000,000,000 - tear down the bridge and shift traffic to Interstate 481 (which goes around the city) $2,000,000,000 - tear down the bridge and build a new bridge in the same spot $4.000,000,000 - tear down the bridge and build a tunnel So, whatever they do, the government will have to spend a small fortune. Of course, if it's part of the 'Green Dream or whatever', it will be built by the hopes and dreams of those unwilling to work, with both cars and farting cow prohibited from crossing it. It's been said time and time again that a tunnel will not happen. They've been talking about this for 10 years, and a decision was supposed to be made 2 years ago. But being a government job, of course it was delayed for more study. DollarBills Posted April 23, 2019 Share Posted April 23, 2019 Honestly this is the best option. I-81 tore the downtown in half when it was built 50+ years ago. For the amount of daily traffic from I-81 that's actually going downtown vs. passing through, a highway in this spot isn't necessary. I'm sure when it was designed in the 50s/60s, they were anticipating regional population growth that hasn't happened.
