Interstate 81 in Syracuse
DollarBills replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Honestly this is the best option. I-81 tore the downtown in half when it was built 50+ years ago. For the amount of daily traffic from I-81 that's actually going downtown vs. passing through, a highway in this spot isn't necessary. I'm sure when it was designed in the 50s/60s, they were anticipating regional population growth that hasn't happened. Commuter traffic from the north and south will be able to get into downtown just fine with the community grid plan. -
What's the atmosphere inside Paul Brown stadium like for opposing fans? My friend and I are coming to the game from Buffalo. This is our first Bills away game and first time in Cincy.

Surprised to see this. Growing up in CNY, it always seemed pretty bandwagon-y for pro sports. The Bills were definitely tops in the 90s, but Giants fans have surged in the last decade or so. You'll definitely see a lot of Packers and Steelers around Syracuse too. We also had quite a few Eagles fans around the time of their success in the early to mid-2000s. I can remember some of the Eagles fans I talked to claimed McNabb (former Syracuse QB, of course) was a major reason for their fandom.

Having grown up in Syracuse, the area really is what ever way the wind blows. In the 1990's it was Bills territory, followed closely by the NYG. By the 2000's it became more spread out with the Giants, then Bills and Jets holding the most fans, followed by a whole lot of randomness. I actually knew a lot of people who followed the Eagles because of Donovan McNabb (or so they claimed), but following his departure from Philly that fad has faded.

You also have to keep in mind that Rogers Centre has 20,000+ less seats than the Ralph and probably won't sell out this year. So while TO brings more in ticket prices, stadium size and a lack of enthusiasm lowers the potential profit.

John Bongiovi interested in buying the Bills
DollarBills replied to Doc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm curious as to whether any progress has been made in regards to a new stadium in WNY. Planning for a future stadium was part of the lease deal. The last I heard anything was back in March....http://www.wgrz.com/news/article/206188/13/Sources-Sites-For-New-Bills-Stadium-Already-Under-Discussion -

So now according to the AP JBJ is "not currently pursuing" the Bills. http://www.pro32.ap.org/article/publicist-refutes-bon-jovis-pursuit-bills This doesn't mean he won't be "interested" when Ralph passes. I'm also still concerned about the Toronto/MLSE interest in the team. Erie County needs to get their youknowwhat together in getting a new stadium plan moving forward. -

I think the most important thing to come out of this JBJ situation is that Toronto interests (ie. MLSE) are actively working to pick up the Bills after Ralph dies. While this is concerning, there are still so many intangibles at this point to say MLSE/Larry Tanenbaum are leading contenders to buy the team. They include: 1. Is there a group/person with the finances and motivation to compete with any TO group? 2. Can a new stadium get built in WNY and is the process already underway? There was a WGRZ article from March saying the Bills/Erie county were scouting sites. 3. How much will NYS/Erie Co contribute to a new stadium? This is vital given the ability of MLSE to fund a stadium in Toronto and the high cost any new owner would have to pay for the team. 4. How Ralph's will is set up- Do the Bills go into a trust, if so for how long? Can his heirs control who the team is sold to or is it just the highest bidder? 5. Will the NFL allow it? I'm a bit concerned that the NFL seems to think TO/Buffalo are part of the same "region". -

Per Buffalo Business First, design work is underway for a Toronto stadium thanks to our friends at MLSE..... http://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/blog/morning_roundup/2013/11/design-work-is-reportedly-underway-on.html -

I doubt Larry Tanenbaum would keep any presense in Buffalo, if he and Bon Jovi bought the team. This would likely be a Toronto only team. My guess is that Poloncarz knew about the Bon Jovi/Tanenbaum situation, which explains why he was so dismissive of Bon Jovi. -

Per Bruce Arthur from the National Post @bruce_arthur: For the record, sources confirm Jon Bon Jovi is the frontman for a planned NFL in Toronto bid, with Larry Tanenbam, pushed by MLSE https://twitter.com/...762248888848384 This seems like a very legitmate threat. -

I'm not comfortable with Rogers being a part of an ownership group, even if it does include JBJ. I think Rogers' primary interest would be in moving the team to Toronto. -
Tickets left for Bengals game
DollarBills replied to CodeMonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Comparing the Ticketmaster site this morning with Tuesday morning, they moved an insane amount of tickets in 24 hours, probably close to 5,000. I wonder if we'll be hearing that Russ Salvatore bought a big chunk of those..... -
Will the Carolina game be blacked out?
DollarBills replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
By my rough count from the Ticketmaster site, I'd say there are around 3,000 seats unsold on the map. If it really is just 3,000, I think either OBD or a sponsor buys the rest. -
Steve Christie can help you sell your house

Maybe he can sell the AM&A's building that has had his Art voice billboard up for 15+ years. I wonder if he still "never misses an issue" -
Bills hire Doug Marrone to be Head Coach
DollarBills replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The discussion seems to be folks familiar with Syracuse football vs those not. I am familiar with Syracuse and Doug Marrone turned this program around. Before Marrone, SU football was putrid for years. Look at their record yourself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syracuse_Orange_football They could barely beat schools like UB. -
FYI- I don't know if some of you are familiar with the Flight Aware site, but it was mentioned on this forum a few times during the Mario Williams saga last spring and Bill Cower rumors in 2010. It allows you to see all flights in and out of the Buffalo airport. As was discussed three years ago the Bills normally charter jets for their execs/Ralph. I searched the non-commercial departures and.... There have been NO flights either to or from Phoenix. Also, you can see a flight to Detriot on Monday morning, which I assume is Russ Brandon flying to meet Ralph. So unless the Bills found another means to Phoenix (Jim Kelly's magic unicorn) I'm not sure how they could be meeting with Whisenhunt tonight. http://flightaware.com/live/airport/KBUF/departures/ga

Mario Williams: Officially a Buffalo Bill
DollarBills replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
http://flightaware.com/live/airport/KBUF Check the departures/scheduled departures. No flights on that list make me think Mario is on board. Unless he's on a Fed-Ex cargo plane. -

Albany Newspaper Trashes Bills Nation

When I lived in Smalbany, we used to refer to that paper as the TUseless. An awful paper with an even worse sports section. Unless of course, you're into Siena basketball.... -
