Bills will have “best of the best” weight room facility in the league following 18 mill renovation

There’s nothing wrong with it, people

just want more bells and whistles.

Things are actually degrading a bit there.  Seats are breaking, plumbing is deteriorating and malfunctioning.   And yes, it lacks bells and whistles and general aesthetics.

It was built cheaply with bargain materials compared to comparable buildings from that time.  Some of the materials are showing their age.

It’s great that we’ve won the NFL weight room  Superbowl.

Is the arcade room still gone?

The players' locker room is nice, but nothing lavish.  They have some niceties like table games, comfy couches/chairs, a Tim Hortons coffee station, and a barbershop setup.  Yes, there are several flat screen televisions as well.

I'd say that they're taken care of, but not spoiled.

The cafeteria/kitchen facilities are very nice; you can tell that this regime places a premium on nutrition and wellness.

The fitness/health facility will be on a totally different level; we're talking best-in-the-league type stuff.

There is an arch-support specialist in the Albany area well-known for his expertise.  He works (or did at the time) with some high profile clients, and former NBAer John Starks credited him with extending and improving his career. I was there with my kids, and we talked for a while about the impact he felt he could have on a playe like Aaron Schobel as he was having his issues with plantar fasciitis at the time.  He told me that he worked with many professional athletes and teams, but that the Bills didn't see value in that sort of thing.  He felt that there were some things that he could do to help AS but it was probably never going to happen.

As as we were leaving, there was a rather large box over off to the side with the last name "Diehl" on it, and I asked if it was for David Diehl of the NYG.  He just smiled and said he worked with lots of professional athletes.

Anyway, it's awesome to see and hear about the Pegs willingness to commit substantial time, money and effort into WNY.

For years my back and knee problems (I believe) can be traced to being flat footed.  I wear inserts, but still.  I have only seen recently that there are some exercises that can help strengthen the support of your arch.

This is good stuff.

Yeah, def needs regular maintenance type of stuff, was just saying it’s not like it needs to be torn down or anything drastic. I think it’s a decent arena, always thought the foot traffic  flow in and out of the building worked pretty well, and for a ‘modern’ arena the sight lines are ok.   Not a fan of the giant nets at each end, but that’s a league thing.

My first thought as well.  Bills will run out the lease at SJF then move camp to OBD.  They've certainly got the cash to buy out the remaining years at SJF but that won't play well with the Rochester fan base.

.......could be a difficult decision.....probably 1/3 of their fan base comes from Rochester and parts east.......that would be a pretty hefty number to alienate....Pegula owns the AHL Rochester Americans and PSE just took over operating the Blue Cross Arena.....there was some talk about PSE chipping in some money towards renovations....

Yeah, very much this.

Additionally, I love ripping on Russ Brandon as much as the next Board Member.  However, he did play a good sized role in helping us become more regionalized, which is important for the franchise's fan base and attendance, and even to the league itself.

How many talking head gutter snipes over the years took shots at this team, this City and this organization over attendance and ticket prices?  A lot.

The attendance one being difficult to swallow as other teams were selling out, but giving game day tickets away and having a lower actual attendance then us...like a particular South Florida team whose mascot is an aquatic mammal...or they just plain covered seats for years  (go ahead and roar on that one North Florida cats).

Actually, in my opinion, its quite bad, but nothing can be done.  We are stuck with it.  I have been to many built in that same time period: Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Philly, Washington, Tampa, Chicago and they all are much better to watch a hockey game in (Washington kinda sux too though).

The sight lines are bad.  The grade of the seats is way to gradual (Montreal and Toronto have steep upper levels and require railings).  Huge swaths of the 100 level are strife with blind spots all over the ice.

Approaching and in the corners, the seats become small, narrow, and no leg space.  I am not a big person by any stretch and seats in the corners are extremely uncomfortable.  The corners of the 300 level are in a different area code.

There is also the strange decision to have a huge bubble-dome roof with giant blue walls and duct work that captures and deadens sound and eliminates any intimacy/aesthetics.

...ALL great points....the whole Toronto gig was for regionalization in hopes of attracting investor(s) in the region when RW eventually passed (fans were the secondary focus)....the Fins and Jags comments bring up an interesting point...IF the intent is to eventually build a new stadium, it's pretty much a given the PSL's and ticket prices will increase to cover debt service.......so to alienate 20-30% of your fan base now would be economic suicide down the road to fill a new stadium.....

@May Day 10 fair enough, you obviously spend more time there than I do. I’ve sat in the 300s but not in the corners. Blue line to blue line up there isn’t too bad. 100s are too low for my preference. Saw Ryan Miller get lit up once from four rows directly behind him, that was a cool experience but I wouldn’t want to sit down there on the regular.

Float tank?  Bah. What a bunch of phooey.  ::Shakes fist::

Did you listen to Steve Smith and 'Zo Alexander interview?  I can't find it but it's a hoot (apparently their wives were college roommates and keep them up when they go out)

They were talking freely about what they did/do to prolong their careers as they get older: Massage, deep acupuncture, and so on vs. young guys who just roll out of bed on Monday.  Zo said he tried to talk to the young players but a lot of them don't listen.

If it's part of the team's facilities and presented as "this is what the team recommends", it's easier for the players young and old to get with the program and "get right"

OT, I gotta tell you, as time goes by I am becoming more and more comfortable with keeping the team in OP.  Especially when you consider the facilities the team has there, and are building for the future.

Administration area, large store, stadium field, 2(?) grass fields, a full indoor field and a soon to be new training facility.

Man, not to get political, but I honestly don't know how with the above, and with respect to the Sheldon Silver thing a few years ago (a State wide investigation when once it got to Silver the Governor just shut it down), that the Governor just sort of gets to skate by on these things.

Honestly, I am not talking a Republican or Democrat thing, or even a Conservative or Liberal issue.  It is a "How is no one in this State, media wise, pointing the finger at you with some of what is going on" thing.

That aside, yeah, we aren't really going to get nor should we expect a lot from the State.

....just a little "tongue'n cheek" about NYS coming up with major dollars for a new stadium......

If they refurbish.  Maybe playing one season at either the Carrier Dome or Toronto (BMO or Skydome).  It would stink kind of, but we wouldnt have the inferiority complex of losing our team on some sort of rent-to-own deal like the Toronto series

I'm from Toronto, and there is no way I am going to another Bills game at the Dome.  BMO would be a better option, and even better.. UB stadium, no?
