The trust fund that pays disability benefits through Social Security is headed for insolvency in 2016 and will only be able to pay out 80 percent of benefits after that date, the trustees found.

according to that article, the apocalypse should have started 2 years ago.

Gee....maybe if more people worked there be more contributing to S.S. ?

Gee....maybe if the young healthy being handed S.S.worked instead would help S.S. ?

But according to the Left, that is not in Trumps mindset for bringing  jobs back to this country.

That's not a solution.  That's not even an admission that we have a problem.

It's political hackery implying that conservative should suffer the political consequences of cleaning up yet another massive economic and social problem caused by progressives.

You don't care about the people who are going to suffer.  You don't care about the future children of this nation born under the yoke of a tax burden assessed to them which they had no say in creating.  You actually relish the idea of both, because it has the potential to harm conservatives at the ballot box.

More immigration would help. More younger people working, helping economy expand, more taxes paid.

Liberals have a great strategy towards pushing Socialism.

  • Democrats create expensive programs and raise taxes, calling everyone to contribute their "fair share".
  • The GOP then tries to undo the damage by lowering taxes and de-funding programs, but...
  • ...but the Democrats whine about killing grandma and the kids.

The Tax cuts are approved (because we don't want to pay), while the entitlements stay, (because we all want free stuff).

Each generation, the country moves further to the left, until politicians like Trump, are considered conservatives, while Bernie starts to sound reasonable.

And a poor speller to boot. Offhand, I'd venture to think that under Obama the deficits were higher since he doubled the national debt.

Less of NAFTA and TTP would help more. Unskilled Immigrants flocking here is only burdening the U.S.

My understanding is that the deficit accelerated under Obama's first term due to bailouts etc necessitated by the recession, which was a Bush legacy( if we want to ascribe economic well being to policies of the current administration..especially within 24 months). Trump and GOP have now doubled the deficit in one fell swoop, betting on higher tax revenues 8 years out to cover the shortfall. Tough bet to take. And I say that as a registered Republican.

Last balanced budget/surplus was 1998-2001, during Bill Clintons 2nd term.

Ignorance like this hurts us all, the economy, ss and medicare. Free trade increases the bounty, as does immigration. Trump's nonsense makes Trump wealthier and others poorer, sort of like Trump University.

The economy's collapse was actually caused by the CRA created under Carter and expanded by Clinton. There obviously were other factors but without the CRA they never would have happened. Trump's policies are expanding the economy with the expectations that revenue will increase. We'll see.

Free trade is great, but everyone has to adhere to it if it is going to work.

You sure about this? I am fairly certain Trump just said in the G-7.."yall dont want tariffs..I am good with that. Let's remove all tariffs and barriers to trade"  and nothing but crickets back.

I will be the absolute first to stand up and tell you I do not understand or know every trade regulation in place and how it affects differebt industrie and what the macro effect might be ..but I am fairly certain no else on this board does either. But i am not going to just dismiss what Trump is doing in trade just cause it is Trump

Let's say that is so...we had 8 years under Reagan, 4 under Bush 1 and 8 under Bush 2 to change the policy/act.

So to be clear, I think President's have very little impact on the economy..for instance, I don't ascribe the budget surplus to Clinton and his policies. That being said, I do believe what has impacts are deficits and money policy..and Trump scares me on the deficit side. I do not t hink I am alone there...as matkets tend to look forward 1 year plus...and we be going sideways for the last 6 months.

Google Bush 11's many pleas to congress re correcting the CRA problem.
