That's the idea; welfare programs would be replaced by a jobs guarantee program. I would think conservatives would like that. The wage paid would also set a floor for the private sector. Tiberius Posted April 25, 2018 Share Posted April 25, 2018 A job is the best social program ever invented, but since I studied how they tried this in the 1930's and it ran up against local wage rates, needs for jobs, putting the program in place and hurting the flow of labor I'd want to see more details. Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post argued that helping the unemployed move to areas where there are jobs is a better idea that this and unemployment insurance and I lean in that direction. Even during the recession employers were having problems finding trained workers for jobs. If the government had a program to train and move workers I'd like that. The coal mining areas would love this job guarantee thing so they would never have to leave the rural areas, get educated and join the new economy.
