Pope Francis - "There is no hell"

Recommended Posts

Sort of a natural evolution for Christianity. This paradox is central to religion in general and Christianity in particular. Is this ditching of the "hell factor" as big of a leap in doctrine as the changes in the nature of God between the old and new testaments? God is mean and blood thirsty in Old Testament but loving and good in the New Testament. Christians don't sanction slavery or want to burn homosexuals anymore. Religion can't exist in a "pure form" in a society that has totally changed from the one that created the original religious doctrine. The Roman Catholic Church has to change or die

Kindly don't misapply the word "Christian," with the pope.

The pope is a Catholic thing, so whatever he says has little or no interest among other Christian faiths.

Further, you characterization of "God" in the Old and New Testaments is incorrect.

God is God.

The Bible is about covenants mad by the same God.

The Old Testament is a story about a nation, and the covenant made with them to establish the kingdom of God on earth. They failed, and killed him.

The New Testament is a story about an individual, and the covenant to include all who believe.

God is nothing more than what people think it is. Bible was written by people for people. And most of it is bunk. Nice stories and all but still a lot of fiction. Yes, and the pope is a Christian. He is the leader of one of the biggest set of Christians out there. The "other Christians" just prove my point about the changing nature of religion. It reflects the society that creates it. Most Christians today don't want to burn homosexuals. They did in the past

I'm getting the feeling you aren't particularly well versed in Biblical knowledge, nor have the ability to separate the pope from Christianity.

That aside, there is nothing Biblical about burning homosexuals.

Gator and Gary just caught up to Martin Luther... In about 500 more years he will be ready to tackle the tough questions of the late 20th century.

Thanks for backing up my point, though I think you are too dumb to realize it. Yes, Christianity did go through a big change there 500 years ago to catch up with Renaissance thought and the more capitalistic society emerging at the time. And yes, in the late 20th century religion continued to evolve as it will keep doing.

Thanks again ding bat!

Save yourself the trouble: he's not particularly well versed in anything. He copy/pastes left-wing talking points. That's it. His next original thought will be his first.

Try not liking blisteringly dumb posts and I won't have to be one. He regurgitated a 500 year old argument and passed it off as his own. That you don't have the basis in history or philosophy to have realized that before you liked it is on you.
