When kooks hate the North American way of life, I tend to reason that this is because they are lunatics and it’s not totally our fault.

He won't give up his nukes, the US will just have to get used to it.

he saw what happened when Iraq and Libya and Ukraine gave theirs up.

This is a salient point. A viable nuclear program is the only thing that keeps the west from running you over with regime change nonsense. This is a lesson that 42, 43, and 44 made sure every tinpot dictator learned with their f ups.

Republican Congress budget cuts

United States budget sequestration in 2013

The budget sequestration in 2013 refers to the automatic spending cuts to United States federal government spending in particular categories of outlays

The cuts were split evenly (by dollar amounts, not by percentages) between the defense and non-defense categories.

Massive defense spending for Iraq and  Afghanistan wars started by who?

I rather think that holding Seoul hostage with his artillery and rockets does more to keep him invasion-proof than a nuclear program. Eventually he's going to cross the wrong line with his nuclear threats, and the US will no longer care about 100,000+  South Korean casualties.

It happened long before those folks were in office. It really harkens back (in relatively recent times) to WWI. The end of that saw the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the Russian Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the beginning of the fall of the British Empire. In truth it started before that because the political history of the world is one of tribalism. There never has been an era of peace in the world. Rulers come, and rules go. Regimes get toppled like dominos, and the winners gets to write the history.

So, let's play "Foreign Policy Expert" for a bit WRT the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

A "little" history on the subject.

After WWII, the Soviet Union and the US divided the country into two at the 38th parallel.

The Soviets kicked the Japanese out of the country and stopped their advance at that line.

The US moved in to the South. Both governments claimed full authority over the entire peninsula.

Kim Il-sung became the leader of the North and he invaded the South in 1950 in the "Fatherland Liberation War" (known in the West as the Korean War).

There was no end to that conflict. There was an armistice, but no peace agreement.

China under Mao named the US as their principle threat in the world.

Korea saw and continues to see the US as their arch enemy - the country that prevented the reunification of their nation state. They are still fighting that war. We are their enemy.

Kim Jong-Il was his father's successor, and Rocket Man was his successor in turn.

NK has demonstrated that they have nuclear bombs and are hastily developing ICBMs and shorter range missiles that could and in time - will be capable of delivering those weapons against their arch enemy - the US.

So, what would you advise the SOS to do?

Do we nuclear arm South Korea and Japan a-la what Russia did with Cuba in the 60s?

Pressure Xi to remove Kim the 3rd?

Start Peace talks to end the Korean War? And what price would North extract?

Do we have to apologize to the North Koreans and pay them in pallets of cash?

North Korea is sitting on $6 trillion in mineral resources

https://nypost.com/2017/07/03/north-korea-is-sitting-on-6-trillion-in-mineral-resources/

U.S. , S Korea and Japan would have to guarantee no regime change or invasion of N Korea for denuclearization and end of missile program.

This would be guaranteed 100% by China and maybe Russia.

The White House has “dramatically” ramped up its military plans amid fears that diplomacy won’t thwart North Korean despot Kim Jong Un from making good on his threats, sources told the UK’s Telegraph.

The Telegraph article says nothing about "commandos."  Doesn't say much beyond "all options are on the table," actually.

The Fox article is sourced from a South Korean web site that has a two-paragraph blurb about the 2nd Infantry and ROK forces training together, and from that and the unit name "the 'Black Jack Brigade'" extrapolates a ridiculous wheelbarrow full of bull ****.  They actually cite a picture on Facebook as a source.  It's egregiously stupid and alarmist writing...and typical Fox "throw **** against the wall and see what sticks" reporting.
