Big Turk
Lol. Let's cut Sammy too. He complained. If we get rid of all of the players we have with elite talent, we can't help but be overachievers. I prefer that we keep our talent and get a coach that can utilize it so we can win, but hey overachieving with crap players is another way to go. I wonder if they'd cut Dareus if he were a few years into a contract. Rex isn't get anything out of him either. Big difference, Sammy came out and balled up and said he wants the coaches to be harder on him and the other players. Mario just simply quit. fridge
Pathetic. Rex Ryan ran a guy out of town that had a 14 sack season the year before. Remarkable mis-use of talent.
dave mcbride
Knowing Wawrow from asking him about journalism and why he and Graham and a few others do not break stories like national guys he had told me that he can only release a story with such information as this when he hears directly from sources involved. He cannot hear it from second hand or rumors. It is speculative but this has to be coming from Mario, Whaley or someone who has control of making such a movie - which is like 2 or 3 people. If Wawrow reports it than write it down in sharpie. No. i don't think they'd use wawrow as such cap savings are much better keeping him until june 1st. we'd save an additional $7mm in cap hit. I cut the cord now and save the space for 2017 for a simple reason: they don't have to pay a qb this upcoming year, and they will next. I expect that he has March roster bonuses in any case - any decent agent would insist on that. Edited December 31, 2015 by dave mcbride

NOW!!!! You don't need $7M to bring in garbage players to make Rex look like he is overachieving.

I'm sure they will wait to maximize the savings given how many of their own guys they want to retain.
K-9
The benefit of 15-20 sacks doesn't come close to outweighing the drawback of keeping a player who had no problem quitting on his teammates, coaches, and fans. The "why" he quit is simply not relevant. It will be interesting to see how other teams approach him. GO BILLS!!!
TakeYouToTasker
Right...because NO other teams EVER have this type of thing happen, right? Once again, someone trying way, way too hard to show the Bills are somehow way off base from what happens on other teams. Other organizations that would do this are amateur hour as well. It's not how business is conducted.

Vinaccia
Eccellente!!! I don't care if he didn't believe in Rex's system, for a million a game he should have been the leader learning that scheme and executing it inside and ot and I don't care how many all nighters it took. That was his responsibility. He has the talent and body to excel with it. He's just lazy to study a somewhat difficult playbook. Therefore it's great his lazy one dimensional mind is getting cut. Maybe...or maybe he is just a "me first guy" who has never been on a team that has won anything of significance, and perhaps he was one of the reasons why. Lots of teams do this sort of stuff -- look no farther than NE, which does it ALL of the time. As for sympathy for the "victim" here, I have a hunch that players on the team aren't going to be speaking too highly of Mr. Williams to prospective FAs. elroy16
Not surprising and IMO it needs to happen. He hasn't bought into the system and openly complained about it. Systems only work when everything/everyone is doing their job. Mario pouted and quit doing his job. Sure, Sammy complained a little bit, but he continued to go out and do his job. He wasn't pouting and running half assed routes. He kept blocking, he kept getting open, and look what happened, he blew up in the second half of the season. Mario still hasn't done dick this year. Bye Felicia.

They'll probably try to get him on their team as soon as possible so that any competent coach can get him to get to the quarterback. Mario had no insubordination with previous coaches. Rex comes in and it's a nightmare and you guys are pointing fingers at Mario Williams. Laughable.
4merper4mer
Yes! The two scenarios are equivalent. Poor ability to use elite talent = poor ability to use elite talent. The only difference is that the offense "overachieved" and the defense underachieved. That plus Sammy is on a rookie contract. In the off season we can make sure our defensive roster looks like crap so we can overachieve there too. That'll be great. Wasting 2016 to make Rex look ok so we can keep him for 2017 is a sucky strategy, but it is what we have for now.

H2o
Maybe Mario's attitude was more detrimental to the locker room than any of us know? Maybe there is plenty that has gone on behind the scenes to warrant this? Maybe he told someone within the organization he wanted out? Just speculating and no one knows for certain just yet, but I hate to see one of our better players on defense sent packing.
