I'm not overly ideological, what matters to me more than anything is command in policy and track record. Ideally, Jeb, Kasich and then Walker fit that bill more than any of the other candidates, even though Rubio's knowledge on policy is impressive. Walker has a good track record but I do think he is behind vs. these other candidates in understanding policy. But, he's appealing because he along with Rubio even though I'd give the edge to Walker can meld and rev up both the establishment and right wing base to turn out for the elections more so than the rest. However, Rubio would get considerably more Latino voters than Walker and probably would do better with female and younger voters. These two certainly would get higher Republican turnout than Romney. Not so sure Kasich and Jeb could do much better among GOP voters than Romney.

Your logic is quite similar to mine. I just don't get too wrapped up in supporting individual candidates at this point in the game. I'm not overly ideological either - I just want the government to be less preoccupied with getting into all aspects of our lives and restrict the amount they can extract from my wallet. Both sides are pretty bad about that, but one is worse than the other, so I will vote against them. Again.

I'm fine with using illegals to build the wall/fence. Heck, use 100% illegals for the manual labor for all I care. It's like when you take a man out into the woods to execute him, you would make him dig his own grave. You don't dig it for him out of spite.

I'm also okay with Trump making it a wall/casino. Fill the wall with slot machines so that the player faces Mexico when playing. If granny spots an illegal trying to sneak in, she gets bonus points on her machine. This will also make retired people useful and give them dignity.

I'm sure there are all sorts of creative ways to get the wall done. It just takes some American ingenuity. I'm interested to see how Trump would get it accomplished.

I'll spare you the suspense -- Trump has no idea how he would get it accomplished because he's not interested in really running for president. He's only interested in upping the value of the Trump name with his publicity stunt.

Your comment on the border fence wasn't as alarming as the desire to strike first at Iran... that was the truly alarming one.

agreed. he's a shameless opportunist.

more worrying to me is the us public's repeated support of chicken hawks for prez. i just don't understand it especially from veterans or young adults that could be sent to war by one of them.. https://consortiumnews.com/2015/07/22/trump-mccain-and-chicken-hawk-ism/

Considering how right leaning a lot of conversations go around here, I'm genuinely surprised that we have an even split among parties, and that Sanders (the 'socialist') is the leading vote getter.

i'm surprised too. but then i think of the blue collar dem leaning buffalo area voting districts and wonder how there can be so many hard core cons on a bills site

I suspect that many liberals read this forum but don't post because that ideology is so difficult to defend. Lurking voters.

There are a lot more of you on this board than you all like to pretend.

Have you ever considered that the Democrat Party has moved so far left that many of those former blue collar people who leaned towards the dems now identify more with the republicans? You're not going to find too many union guys who just got off their shift sitting down at the corner bar, having a shot and a beer praising gay marriage and diversity while simultaneously swearing at the republicans for their war on women. They could care less about Sandra Fluke and "Caitlin" is neither pretty nor courageous.

Very true. If Obama had been even a slightly better president, they'd be here more often. But when your guy leads you to one incompetent embarrassment after another, it's time to hide.

There are a ton of very hardcore conservatives in rural WNY.

And to think, some libs are still here because they don't actually comprehend just how incompetent and embarrassing he is.

yes, i've considered it. and i've considered unfunded or lurking unfunded corporate pensions, medicare benefits, unemployment benefits, collective bargaining laws etc and i think the fulcrum still falls to the left. btw, i think "caitlyn" is a freak and don't endorse her confused life but i'm tolerant of it. live and let live.

Your particular set of political and religious views deserve their own thread. This surprised me.

With people feeling comfortable in the confines of their echo chamber du jour, we have a hyper polarized political environment where the extreme's of each party dominate the debates within their own parties. Sure, the more moderate tempered candidates are the ones that are usually nominated but none the less, each party is moving further and further away from the middle.

Those are probably the ones that had the good sense to move out of the socialist state of NY and move to a red state where the economy actually is booming with low taxes. You know, that's the same reason our children have to move out of state to gain employment after college.Socialist policies don't work. just create misery.

Think about this: The dems and the msm has become so intertwined that besides the boost and insulation the msm gives the dems there are some negative consequences. The factory worker that you figured would always vote democrat relates the dems with the msm's foolish faux causes and isn't in the bag anymore. Throw in the attack on Cadillac Health Plans and the 2nd Amendment and a good share of the dems base is starting to crumble.
