I've never heard of an NFL WR moving to CB at this stage of their career. Even if somehow Hogan is CB in hiding, is the hope that someone at OBD is reading and going to approach Hogan and say "hey, we just signed you to a new contract as a wide receiver. Even though our defense was elite last year, we were curious how you might line up as a CB and contribute on that defense." Doesn't this sound like we're throwing out highly unlikely scenarios here? For Edelman, he accepted with zero hesitation. In the 2004 season, the Patriots switched Troy Brown, already a veteran WR, to CB - - and won a Super Bowl. Brown was second on the team in interceptions that year. Do the google thing on the interweb if you don't believe me. In 2011, the Patriots had Julius Edelman (a young veteran who already had 2 years pro experience at WR) play both WR and cornerback, and lost a Super Bowl when David Tyree of the Giants made the miraculous "helmet" catch to beat them. He was not being covered by Edelman at the time. So by all means, let's bury a great athlete like Hogan on the WR depth chart - - and watch some other team play in the big dance. Just to stay local there's no way he could cover Sammy..then bring in Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson and Dez Bryant... I like the way the front office is finally spending serious money on free agents, but even a geneus like Doug Whaley probably won't be able to find enough cap loop holes to bring ALL those guys in. Especially if Miami doesn't match the offer sheet Clay just signed with the Bills. Or is there some salary cap trick I'm missing? Maybe Do stud WR's get open on Gilmore? Yes Did the Jets' Stephen Hill (who??) kill our team 2 years ago? Yes My point is: Hogan vs. Stephen Hill or any of the countless mediocre WR talents we go against would be an upgrade against whoever the hell that shlub was covering Stephen Hill two years ago (as an example). But if we could somehow channel Hogan's insistence and determination to be stopped a yard short or go OB a yard short of the first down, he could make an all pro nickel or dime back. Yes, totally agree! Here are hogans pro day numbers compared to Woods. Bigger, stronger , faster, more agile. Hogan pro day numbers 61 - 221 40 4.50 Bench Reps @ 225lbs 28 Vertical 36.5 Broad jump 126 (1006) 3 cone 6.75 20 yard shuttle 4.15 Woods Combine numbers: 60 - 201 40 4.51 Bench Reps @ 225lbs 14 Vertical 33.5 Broad jump 117 (99) 3 cone 7.15 20 yard shuttle 4.47 Oh wow!! He is definitely physical and best blocking WR we have from last year, I have not seen all of the rookies and others other than Harvin blocking. But just to repeat, the link has nothing to do with Hogan just The Real Buffalo Joe in his Easter clothes and he could not find any other more appropriate thread to post in, say PPP. T master Posted July 8, 2015 Share Posted July 8, 2015 Chris Hogan is sneaky fast, good footwork, above average vertical leap, has shifty hips and has the ability to go up and get the ball. His agility and knack for finding the ball in a crowd is uncanny. With that said, we are wasting his talents as a WR. In the mold of the Seahawks and now the Jets we need a tall kid at CB and one who isn't afraid to turn, extend and deflect/catch the ball. There is no reason why a talented kid like Hogan should be relegated to 4th WR. He can serve a purpose and that position is CB. Trust me...I know. So who in the deep & talented CB group that we have do you get rid of then & why if they were going to do that would you draft another CB in the second round with our first pick of this years draft ? Hogan is just not fast enough nor quick enough to change direction the way that an NFL CB is required to do to stay with his man. Hogan is in the NFL because he is big and strong and athletic, but he's just not quick enough to mirror NFL WRs. He would get torched and the HC who put him at CB would be fired.
