MY GOD, MAN!! DON'T EVEN THINK IT!!! You don't like Hackett? Quinn would make your head explode. The man is an idiot. His hiring was a practical joke played on the school as Ward Manuel left for Connecticut.

This is about as untrue as can be, Labatt, and I'm disappointed in you. Yes football has been hard but all of their other teams have been very competitive, including basketball.

In fact the basketball team is actually quite good under Hurley. They won the MAC East with a 19-10 record. This year the face two Final Four teams in Wisconsin and Kentucky. And as for hockey and lacrosse they want to get their existing programs up to snuff before launching new ones. They don't have the budget that other major universities have. One step at a time.

plus, it would be pretty hard to recruit in lacrosse when you have a bunch of other NYS schools with highly regarded established programs. With football and basketball, you really only have Syracuse (and perhaps St. John Fisher in football and St. Bonnies in Basketball) for the local kids to consider. In Lax, it becomes much more complicated (Syracuse, Hobart, Cornell, Albany, Army, etc all perennial top teams) .

Great story from the school paper speaking with former players. Turns out ol' Coach Q was a grade A d-bag who lost his team last season.

I don't get how these D-bag coaches get jobs. Esp. in College, you have to be a "players coach" (Ps. Tomlin, that is a good thing) for recruiting, etc. Even if those outside your program think your a pri*k, you need your players to love playing for you. You can be tough, and disciplined, but you have to be fair and not an a**.

The issue is... If you find a Turner gill or Dave clawson.... Once you find a window of success, they are going to leave to the Kansases and wake forests of the world

The big 3... neutz, oliver, and mack were gill guys. Quinn was a bum and did nothing to compliment those guys really outside of maybe licata. Quinn set the program back... and not only that, wasted a real opportunity for a special season in 2013. Wait. There's more. I know at certain points last year they had the lowest ranked recruiting class in fbs.

Well, if you are anywhere but the SEC, if your coach is good enough, he is always going to be recruited to that next job.

Would you UB guys take Gill back?

He is at Liberty(FCS), and putting together a decent team.

I know he is a devout Christian, and that might play into his leanings of staying at Liberty...but seems like that would be a good story if he went back there no?

because of A, I think I would welcome Gill with open arms.

Not so sure he would be eager to fly the coop this time so quickly for the 1st program that knocks.

Flying the coop is exactly what Gill did in Buffalo. He was supposed to be gone in 2008 but had to stay in Buffalo till 2009 to get his gig. if you recall that year was a setback for the program. Frankly I blame Gill's disappointment over not getting his big gig in 2008. Team discipline was in a shambles that year. They were on an ESPN game that season, they were losing, and the camera panned over to Gill. Behind him were a bunch of his players on their phones texting, laughing and stuff. That one snapshot was 2009 in a nutshell and one big reason I would hesitate to bring Gill back.

http://www.ubfan.com...,15702.0.html If anyone is interested in following the coaching saga on the "TBD of UB sports."

Yes, Gill is being discussed. Bills fans aren't the only ones who look back for the future. Another name brought up is Danny Barrett, now an asst coach at USF. He was Gill's OC and the rightful heir to that job. Former UB AD Warde Manuel totally screwed Barrett over when he hired Quinn. (Yes, Quinn was Warde's hire, not Danny White.)

The hot idea is White will use his connections from his former job, as asst AD at Ole'Miss, to mine for potential candidates.

After a 2-10 start to his UB career, Gill bookended a couple of 5-7 seasons arond his only winning campaign.

He then went to the "big time" at Kansas where he promptly lost to an FCS school. His first year they won a single conference game.

In his second year featured 6 of the most lopsided defeats in Kansas school history. He finished with a record of 5-19 and 1-16 in conference over his 2 years.

Where did Gill retreat to? Why, he went down to the FCS, at Liberty.

So UB footballs who are pining for the return of Gill should take pause. Consider his path. He had a brief moment of success, but it was in the MAC. He made the jump up to a major conference and he found out that he just did not belong there.

That's all I've been saying, in a sense.

Only way I take gill back is if you bring back Willy, Starks, Roosevelt, Newton, Shannon, Winters, Cook, Hamlin and Najja Johnson. You notice that Gill SUCKED without Starks his senior season. The team was somewhat successful but nothing special. 08 will not happen again anytime soon

Alex Wood is the Interim Coach

Thank you for that. I didn't hear this

Lou Tepper is as good as gone too.

That defense is pathetic as well. But the only reason I say that. Is because he has a lot of B.C. experience and knows the system. I have to admit, I have never been LESS excited about UB football than I have been this year. Even Randall Secky years.

What about the Cliff Scott era?

The cliff scott era wasnt bad. They fielded a nice looking team then. Talent in spots. Bill Tipton, Anthony Swan, Craig Guest, I believe Carlson an Ed Ellis were there too. I wonder what happened to his brother the DE. The Scott family used to own the Kensington Place. Wasnt Kali Watkins on that team for a little too?

No prob.

Here are some other names to consider for next year: http://www.ubbullrun.com/2014/10/14/6973673/ub-coach-search-playbook

I think there might bw something to Orgeron? Maybe even the WR specialist
