***New Member*** I bounce between this board, the BBMB, and /r/buffalobills, but this one gets more play from me because there seems to be less squabbling (so far) and fewer pointless UPVOTE THREADS (I'm looking at you /r/buffalobills). Another huge plus, is that I can waste my day away at work, freely posting and replying, because this is the only one out of the three that I frequent that is both not blocked and compatible with the severely outdated work mandated Internet Explorer version we are running. Here's to the good times to come

stick around. once you post more you'll soon find one person or another to squabble with, or squabble with you.

I'm really just looking for news, but not necessarily from the posters cited in the poll, but from the media articles found by fellow posters. I figure its like having 5,000 sets of eyes looking for news on the Bills and somewhat intelligent conversation on the subject articles. Once in a while someone will have a good nugget of information (Locals who saw something at the stadium, (Buddy the wonderdog scooping the new turf) those are the things I am looking for.

Added bonus is there are a few genuinely nice people here.

in years past I spent hours reading the sight and communicating with many folks. It has gradually changed to a be only mildly informative and is now so over moderated and formatted it has lost its edginess. The edginess made this sight. Now, 2 or 3 minutes each day is enough. I now see people pretending to be something they are not. I see geeks ( not football geeks) creating words such as "presser". Because of over moderation topics are too long. It is forbidden to mention anything new without a moderator combining it with a topic of 27 pages ( see Jim Kelly), unless of course it is a survey. Mods now are thought police. It now feels like lawyers vet everything.

it is still a great site to organize activities about the Bills, I have met great friends here in past years but today actual new info is gone. I think all those who were real knowledgeable have left and it is now cut and past of twitter reports. Strange how a twitter report is considered gospel. The edginess was like sitting at the local bar talking Bills. Ah but now the lawyers know best.

I think this was a great place to share that thought, so thanks!

Great post. SDS is my hero but IMO the site has been drastically over moderated the last few years. Just one man's opinion but I always thought one of the very best elements was a lack of Fun Police.

I think that's mainly because it's not SDS, NG and Ken doing the moderating any longer. Those guys knew the forum and the posters and did things by feel, not by the moderator handbook. It's probably the natural evolution of a site that grew larger rather than being any individuals' fault.

I agree it is a collective thing, but each individual moderator (I honestly don't even know who all of them are) could just ease up a lot and let it all play out like it used to be, knowing you have to take the bad with the good. To me, the good far, far, far outweighed the bad. Now all these blocked threads and warnings, etc. have just become annoying. But it's just my opinion. It's still the best and my fave site of all.

No argument with any of that.

I understand what both of you are saying but for the most part moderation is fair.

Sure, we could let it play out more naturally and moderate ourselves like the wild, wild west but that would not promote the site for what it is.

A lot of the changes occurred as access to the internet increased from 2000-2004. As people could load pages quickly, spend more time and less money to get and stay online it allowed more chickens to get in the hen house.

Mix that with the culture that is popularly embraced - instant gratification / look at me!!! - and you have 1,000 nitwits all wanting to share their own special opinion of why EJ sucked. It has become less about substance and more about a statement. The meat and potatoes do not get attention anymore. A thread about the 3-4D shift with stunts allowing Jerry Hughes to capitalize on the Lions OG's would draw a lot less attention then "OMG EJ Sucks so bad!" or "You should hear what my friends and I talked about on Facebook!"

It's not the moderation. If you thought it was then ya'll need to go look at some other team websites. Because of crap Microscopes got he was destroyed but he provided some good OC around here. There was no need for it and he fell for it and got rolled right up in it himself. However, I do understand what you're saying. If there was some easement of this or some nonsense where an influx of stupid came up a lot we would have to police ourselves a whole heck of a lot more and it would get pretty ugly around here for a while. It happened before, it comes in phases. We're about due for one, it's been since late 2011 and early 2012.

There was a point when it was almost unmoderated outside of self-moderation. The plethora of redundant threads, typically by the usual suspects, make the board nearly as unbearable as the current "one giant thread". We didn't self-moderate enough to ignore the redundant threads and/or the posters who engaged in them.

Corrections often (typically?) result in over-correction. I'm just hoping the board finds a middle ground.
