Having taken a look at the pics this is way off. Her body is just fine, it's her face without makeup which causes one to pause.

 

And I think she took away the mystery long before this anyway when she basically ran around naked in the X-Men flicks.

A vulnerability in the FindMyPhone app was found Saturday which let brute force attacks on the password recovery system that did not allow a password lock out. The emails and accounts were discovered than thru the brute force attack were accessed.

 

They weren't hacked. Thats improper usage of the term.

 

These celebs need to learn that you can't back up all your pics to the icloud. Android is smart - won't back up pics with skin automatically.

 

They may be glad no one is able to get the geotag info out. But all of these are real and it is not a huge deal.

You're more naive than I imagined if you believe no money changed hands. That's just silly and ignorant of the realities of the world. And getting your news from the Mail is a big no-no. At least if you want accuracy and accountability in your reporting. This was done by a group of individuals, for profit. The filter down effect of image sharing from person to person was not for profit but rather people driving their site traffic through the roof (also = money for their sites).

 

The point I'm making is you're excusing this blatant and illegal breach of privacy because either the targets were women and/or famous, worse, you are blaming the victims for it. That's just kinda of crappy.

You are correct, as long as there are unscrupulous people out there pictures will be released. It happened before the internets came into existance and it'll continue as long as people are interested in obtaining those images. The fact that you are blaming those who backed up the images rather than those who stole them is disappointing.

In reality...if you take naked pictures of yourself and put them on any device that is connected to the internet, you have put those pictures on the internet. Do not assume a third party's cloud security is going to keep your stuff private. People - everyone in general, but celebrities especially, and judging by the statements she's released, Jennifer Lawrence in particular - need to start understanding that.

What will be interesting will be what, if anything, comes out of this on Apple's end. This is the continuation of our society's slide down the slippery slope of losing our privacy. So much so that many people are oblivious to the ethical issues at play. Maybe that's because the targets are celebrities and we have the misconception that celebrities gave away all their rights to privacy simply by becoming famous, I'm not sure. The line has been blurred between public and private to such an extent we can't tell right from wrong anymore.

 

Yes, people should realize that the internet is not private but to be fair, in these peoples' view they weren't posting to the internet and hell, some might not have even known their iPhones were syncing to the cloud at all. It still took a third party to criminally seize the photos and post them. It's not like these women accidentally tweeted a nude out (like some have done in the past), this was a premeditated assault by a group of hackers looking to profit.

It should not be a huge deal. It doesn't mean it is not. It is to most people but it is not to me. It has been going on forever and it is unfortunate. From drawings on the rocks and caves to stealing iCloud password, pornography has been a strong influence.

But I find it amazing that so many of these women are young and still do not appreciate the security of technology. If this was 40+ year old celebs I think we would simply believe they didn't know what they were getting in to and the social stigma attached to them would be different.

While I was not there I read the archives of the threads. the bit coin donations came out after for helping the guilty parties supposedly hide and more importantly, they are bit coin. you can rip bit coin off- it's not real currency.

 

All of this did not start on 4chan. It started hours earlier on other sites and finally spilled over to 4chan within an hour or two. 4chan could not organize and keep the information together and Reddit picked up that responsibility. Reddit documented nearly every move of this.

 

Do you know how many idiots ask for donations on 4chan a day? How long have you been lurking that site because I don't think its been long enough.
