A few takeaways from today:

The first half of the game was supremely enjoyable.  I loved what they were doing on offense.  There was a clear emphasis on Campbell with five targets early on, including an end around and a sweet TD.  They also intentionally featured Dobbins a bit more than Weber this week, giving him six touches in a row at one point. Haskins spreading it around to everyone on the field in between bombs to Dixon is just a peak OSU experience for me.

McCall muffed two punts, and then broke off a nice return to reward the coaches for leaving him in there. Not sure what his deal is at this point-- he's starting to remind me of Dontre Wilson in a way.

I’m seeing CJ Saunders more than I expected given the crowded WR room.  He had a nice punt return too.  The coaches must really like him. Good story.

On defense, I’m not sure I have ever seen a Buckeye Dline dominate an opponent quite like what happened in the last two minutes of the first half.  Rutgers clearly wanted to head to the locker room and perhaps the OLine was already there mentally.  Chase Young’s sack was naaasty.  Bosa was freaking unstoppable.  Note to other teams: maybe don’t try to block him with only a TE. That poor freshman QB left the game absolutely miserable. On the back end, Fuller’s return was obviously key.

In the second half, the Martell/Snead/Victor combination gave us a peek into the future.  Martell had a solid game, and he showed good heart after getting destroyed on the sideline. It’s clear that his accuracy is not at Haskins’s level, although I'm not sure I've ever seen an OSU QB place the ball quite like Haskins.  Still, Martell is fun to watch and I don’t mind putting his tape out there for other teams to think about while game planning.

Day ain’t afraid of no rain.

Overall, a delightful day to watch Buckeye football.

Maybe I'm just overconfident, but I expect the Buckeyes to roll big.  I think OSU dominates the LOS on both sides of the ball, TCU may hang some points unless the back off of the defense for OSU has made dramatic improvement since Oregon St but I think OSU hangs 50+ on them.

OSU is #4,  still, for a variety of reasons (the game against Clemson 2 years ago, the media/voters with an axe to grind against Urban) I think they are the most underrated team in the country.

rankings don't matter, if the Buckeyes win the Big Ten Championship Game with 0 or 1 losses they are going to the Playoff

and other scenarios could work out as well no matter their ranking

I think they matter slightly in a sense.  If the Buckeyes continue to curb stop opponents and continue to get disrespected because of what may or may not have happened in a former position coach's marriage, you are going to see a VERY motivated team all year long IMO.

whipping cupcakes doesn't win over non-fans

beat Penn State (often a surprising challenge) and then Michigan and Sparty and then beat the winner of the Big Ten Wussy West and you are in the playoffs no sweat

Well they are ranked 15th in the country so definitely not a cupcake

i expect a lot of speed and an exotic defense. They also have a dual-threat QB who Okudah compared to Lamar Jackson. Very different challenge at QB than they have faced in quite awhile even going back to last year. I love a lot of what I’ve seen from the Bucks so far but I’m pretty nervous about this week.

Good program consistently ranked in the Top 25.  Running QB and speed at skill positions can break big plays against a Buckeye defense that still has problems at MLB.  Remember those underneath routes that killed the Bucks last year against offenses that were able to gain traction?  I’m concerned about that.  Plus, fifth-year seniors at TCU remember how pissed they were in 2014 when OSU jumped them in the rankings to get into the playoffs, so there will be some emotion mixed in as well.  Wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bucks give up a few TDs in this game.

But based on what I’ve seen from OSU’s offense so far this year, I just don’t think TCU will be able to keep up.  Haskins appears to be in complete control of an offense with 4 and 5 star weapons all over the place.  He’s due for a letdown at some point, and if it happens here then anything is possible.  But in my mind it’s far more likely that OSU covers the 14 point spread in a tough game.

I feel the same way. I actually think that this is the best Buckeye team that I remember.

It’s a combination of the scheme and talent. The passing game is just light years ahead of where it was with JT. The LBs scare me a little but I think they will improve as the year goes along. Browning will gain experience and Borland will get healthier.

Couldn't agree more about the offense.

On D, I hope it's not too soon for a huge game for Browning and Borland.  Browning playing in front of his hometown crowd could cut either way, but he strikes me as the type of kid that plays up to a situation like this.  I really like what I saw out of Wade last week - I had almost forgotten that he was the #2 ranked CB coming out of HS.

‘02 and ‘14 obviously stand out. This team is more explosive offensively. I think that this team has a chance to go undefeated. ‘Bama, Clemson, UGA and OU are all really good. I don’t see another team that has a chance to win it.

The difference with this team is the ability to throw downfield. It changes everything. They had it on the playoff run with Cardale. That was the last time.

This game scares me because Patterson can dial up pressure on Haskins, and it’s not something he’s had to deal with since he played in Ann Arbor last year.

If the Bucks can control the LOS on both sides of the ball, and not turn the ball over every damn punt return, their talent and depth will take over.

I gave 13.5 and doubled my normal bet. I think Patterson is a GREAT coach. I just think that there is a big talent gap. We will see I guess but I’m not that nervous (surprisingly). If they contain Robinson it could get ugly.

Patterson is living up to his reputation.  Perfect gameplan that the Bucks will see over and over again just like Beamer’s “bear” against JT.

Time for OSU’s pricey coaches to earn their paychecks with halftime adjustments.

Did Austin Mack bet this game? After a nice few plays he’s been a nightmare.

I’m having a big day!! I already had over in OU - ISU, UB (big bet), Bama and this game. I’ve got a 3 team parlay to this game too with Bama and UB. I’d like to win this one. It’s been a profitable start to the football season.

Dobbins was running at the end like he knew the spread was 13.5
