Bellicheat placed Spikes on season-ending IR for being late to team me

So losing a starter to replace him with a guy from the PS is an advantage?

The starter isn't getting replaced by someone on the practice squad. But the backup is, and maybe that guy can help spell the guy who moved up to start on STs. Maybe he just sits and isn't active. It's still an advantage that another team isn't going to get if it simply suspends its own player. To argue otherwise is silly.

Well you know that means Belichick has no intentions of resigning Spikes this off season. He's a free agent and Billy will probably give him a low ball offer because I don't think he wants to keep him. Spikes is good against the run but he couldn't cover anyone even if they let him use a blanket. He's a HUGE liability against the pass and Belichick will want to upgrade that position. Spikes is as good as gone. Belichick doesn't keep one dimensional players. If you can't do it all he will replace you.

Are team imposed suspensions handled differently? As I mentioned up thread, league ones don't count against the 53

No matter how you cut it, they are replacing Spikes with an inferior player. That's never an advantage.

Marrone did the same thing with Marcel Darius and Marcel is way better than Spikes. If Marrone wouldn't take any krap from a player you didn't really think Belichick would . Belichick is a lot tougher than Marrone. Belichick rules with an iron fist. He'll put you on waivers just for making a mistake or getting a dumb penalty. That's why you hardly ever see New England get penalties.

Can we stop sucking Billicheats jock strap! He was worthless prior to Brady and will be worthless after!

I kinda think its the other way around. Brady didn't do much of anything to win those three super bowls, more like the D and rOL. Then they went 11-5 with Matt Cassel, and Trent Edwards could have won that game tonight.

PS - A hurt and bad rep B Spikes could be a cheap cure to our run D. Just saying.

Jamie Collins played out of his mind for them tonight. Maybe they saw something maybe they didn't. Personally I'm not buying the theory that he was put on IR for missing a meeting. Belicheat wouldn't purposefully disadvantage his team to send a message especially one that will be leaving in the offseason imo.

BB's MO with the Pats has always been one of keeping the players that prioritize the team, and football, over almost anything. Some believe it is this attitude, which he has strongly engrained in his team, that is what separates this franchise from all others in this era of football. If Spikes indeed had priorities, other than to this Patriot team, then it might well have been in BB's best interest to remove Spikes, and his questionable attitude, from the team so as not to jeopardize all that BB has built-up.

You hit the nail on the head Pneumonic. Spikes is a flake and Billy won't tolerate guys who are not team players.. Spikes played his way out of New England with his attitude. The other thing going against Spikes is although he is good run defender he is an absolute liability in pass coverage. He is one of the worst coverage linebackers in the NFL. Belichick doesn't keep one dimensional players. He wants players that can excel at stopping the run AND covering the pass. Belichick wants to upgrade that position and he will replace Spikes either in the draft or free agency. :worthy:

Yes and no. He has also taken flyers on high risk players with questionable backgrounds. Randy Moss would be a great example to disprove your point. He takes any and all players that think they can win and also buy into "his way or the highway." When Moss was no longer worth the headache they cut ties with him.
