chandler is a 6 7 guy with good hands and good speed.......why not use him more?? throw to him 8 times a game at least

Because they are too busy running it up the middle getting stuffed and forgetting what a Play Action call is.

His play calling on the goal line and in overtime was quite poor.

Correct! While some will point to the punt return, etc. these two series were truly what lost us this game. Going for it in that scenario is fine, but you've got to have something good dialed up. The play call esp. on the 4th down was atrocious, even Esiason said that play was more suited to an early down. Should have kicked it if you were going to be that conservative with play selection. The most egregious failure though was the final O series in the O.T. The defense held and forced a punt. Where you start the drive is irrelevant here unless you already happen to be close to FG range. You know that only a FG is needed and being that CIN received the opening KO, you may not see the ball again. You must manufacture at least 2 or 3 first downs before you can be any kind of conservative there. The only thing the poor field position dictates is that a 3 and out is a probable loss. You must keep them off balance and throw the ball, not necessarily deep, but play action, boot, etc. You may get a PI or IC against the defense, the rules are in your favor. Two runs and an unimaginative 3rd down pass play doomed the Bills here. While Hackett was aggressive when the score backed him into a corner, he seemed to be playing for the punt in OT. That is pretty unbelievable at this level of football.

The D, O and ST all sucked in OT. Not sure how you can just single out the O. The D allowed the Bengals to march downfield and effectively flip the field and pin the O deep. O goes three and out and the ST does their part by allowing another long return. Just pathetic.

However, for the game I was much more pleased with the O's performance than the D. The D was supposed to "pick up the O" with their starting QB and #1WR out of the game. Instead the D laid a giant egg...once again.

This is a load of crap. The D didn't do their job. Their job isn't to simply keep points off the board, it's to get the team in a position to win the game. Letting them drive past mid-field and pin the O at the 6 yard line as FAR from doing their job. That is unacceptable in overtime. The fact that there are fans out there who consider that "holding" is amazing.

I agree with all of this. Cincy D did it's job in OT, ours did not.

No, this is OT. Even allowing a FG is alright here with the new OT rules. The D allowed one 1st down (by penalty on a 3rd down D hold) then got a 3 and out after the penalty. Job well done, hardly allowing CIN a "march down the field". Where you fielded the punt doesn't matter. It's on the O to win the game there because it is OT. They either had to "flip the field" with a few first downs or mount a drive. The Offense (esp. Hackett) failed there. End of story.

The Bills got the ball back with the game still tied in OT. The D did their job. The rules of this game favor the offense. You don't need a drive start at the 40 to win. The Offensive coaching lost it. Cincy's D didn't so much win it as we gave it to them

Yes you're right. That was an amazing offensive drive in OT. It is a loser's mentality that everything must be perfect to win, ie 3 and out and D, nice punt return, etc. We got the ball back giving up no points. Now go win it. We coached scared and got what we deserved in a loss, when we had an opportunity to win.

Nope.

The D, the O and especially the STcontributed to the poor performance in OT.

We had lousy coverage on the kickoff. The defense then gave up too many yards. You can count first downs all you want but the defense let the field position swing in the Bengals favor.

The offense started deep in their end andf then went 3 and out. Way to conservative. They mostly like wanted to run "safe" plays to get out of the hole. Problem was execution more than play calls. All play calls are good when they work.

Punt coverage really killed us. Big kick, good hang time, unfortunately missed tackles all over the place. Game over.

Looking at the other 4 quarters, if there was one unit that put us in a whole it was the defense. They had no answer for 3 quarters and made Dalton look like Manning/Brady.

The coverage was fine on the punt, the tackling was not. The D did not have a good day, particularly in the 1st half. But they were much better in the 2nd half and OK in the OT. You can't play offense in OT like it is regulation. It was not ideal field position, but that's life. We didn't take what the D was giving us. Play calls were just as important as the execution there. It's tougher to execute runs when they are expecting them. It called for aggression, not small ball. Every play will work if you "execute", right? We are just not talented enough to "impose our will" in that scenario. We need to be creative to win esp. against a talented D. We're not exactly the 90's Cowboys up front.

The coverage on the punt was not fine. Our gunners are getting down the field way too late, which is a reason for the bad tackling, The returner is already at full steam when our guys get there. Recall the Browns game. This is becomning a trend.

Would I have liked to see them air it out in the OT? Yes, sure. All I am saying is that it is easy to second guess any playcalling when you don't execute the play.

Did you see the 3rd down pass? It looked to me like the receiver was a secondary option. He was open and he was past the first down marker. The pass missed him. That is EXECUTION. Make the pass, make the catch, and we get another set of downs. EXECUTION.

That's what I was thinking too. Thad was actually throwing deep pretty good. Why not take a chance? There's almost zero chance of picking up a 1st down with those 3 plays.

Marquise beat the secondary two times on streaks...No better time to throw it than when you have 90 plus yards in front of you to let him smoke by the secondary as long as you have a QB that can get it there..And it looked to me like Thad could..2nd and long and we run a draw play...Come on...

Yes, I saw the pass on the obvious passing down and the 2 crappy runs that preceded it. We simply are not talented enough to win with run, run, pass type of playcalling. We will likely NOT EXECUTE the play when the opponent is in the perfect defense for the play. Hackett just doesn't seem to have the gift for playcalling, which is just guessing the D the opponent is going to play in a given situation. Tough way to win games when most teams are more talented than us. Better playcalling = better chance of executing the play.

For me, Hackett is the biggest disappointment of the season (not counting injuries).

Yeah and what's the chances he gets fired? Zero! Which is why Marrone and Hackett will sink together...

Honestly I'm getting tired of Marrone starting every press conference with the word "obviously". Show some damn emotion after a loss man.

Exit Marrone. Enter Tom Coughlin...
