Thad Lewis Is A Better Option Than EJ Manuel Right Now

Lewis may have something going for him over Manuel in that he has been around NFL teams for a few years, but the issue is that it doesn't take more than one or two misreads and you may have a pick 6 or otherwise critical turnover and game over. Johnson goes in, Lewis throws out .... INT and 6 points for my Bengals Fantasy DST

I think they were too quick to throw Tuel under the bus. If Lewis plays like he did against Detroit in the preseason the Bills are in trouble. Even good defense can't hold up when its three and out by the offense.

Too quick? They've had 5 weeks to evaluate Lewis. More to evaluate Tuel. That's plenty of time.

Marrone explained that the only reason Lewis was on the practice squad is that they felt it was less of a gamble to PS him than Tuel. And at that time, they still didn't know what they had in Lewis.

Since then, however, Marrone hinted that the coaches started to develop more confidence in Lewis. They couldn't use him in the last game because they had left him on the PS. Listening to Marrone talk about this, I'm left with the feeling that in the minds of the coaches, Lewis had already passed Tuel on the unofficial depth chart before last week's game. Tuel's performance backing up EJ did nothing to change their minds.

This is a rookie coaching staff; don!t you think there is a reason they have not been in the NFL before (or the DC never a HC)

this is also a coaching staff probably at the bottom of the pay scale. Don!t you think that maybe that is why "Marrone and co. didn!t

take that inhto account".

If Marrone(and possibly Whaley & Brandon) had done the right thing Tuel would be the man Sunday, but as long as he is not,

lets hope that Lewis is not pulled after 1 pick or a failure to move the offense. You can!t keep sending the wrong message

to your team or they will quit on you.

Since, in limited action, Lewis has better NFL regular season stats than Tuel, I'm assuming you're basing your opinion on your extensive study of their respective preseason games and other off-season experience. And since you apparently know more about these two QBs than even Coach Marrone (how else could you so decisively identify Marrone's error?), please share with us your evaluations on our two QB options.

Itruly hope he can deliver better progressions than EJ to this point, but the bigger concern is Hacket designs a predictable run first, and short passes which crowds the box. Then we will go three and out. We have to trust Lewis a couple of times early with some 15+ yrd passes to stretch their defense. Otherwise we'll get killed.

You are right - have to disagree. We have no idea how Lewis will perform based on one meaningless end of season game and some preseason. Losing Manuel is a blow to the Bills however you look at it, especially in terms of continuing development. There is no comparison in skills sets, leadership, or big game experience. Hopefully Lewis can perform well enough to keep the Bills alive until the real QB gets back.

Defense, running game and special teams win this game, if it can be won at all. We shall see. We are in "who knows" land here again, impossible to predict the Bills from week to week this season. Simply impossible. This team is a collection of untested/unproven/somewhat broken parts. On any given Sunday it can come together based on turnovers and short fields on offense. Lets hope this is one of those weeks.
