If we had a top 10 Q.B. this team would be undefeated

Funny thing is that last 2 seasons you couldve easily made the argument that with a top 10-15 defense we make the playoffs.

Timing is everything.

Its been the same dog and pony show for over a decade.

I do feel like everything is slowly coming together now however (with a healthy EJ).

Exactly,

Some of you need a reality check....

Go back and re watch that Jets game in which CB Justin "toast" Rodgers allowed 75% of the Jets passing, and 2 TD's. Then Rodgers isn't even the worst player on the team, LG Colin Brown takes those honors being graded at negative -26. To put that grade into perspective Jeff Tuel graded at negative -5.0. The kid looked like a deer in headlights and kept throwing turf balls.

Yeah, but they still could have won those games with above average QB play.

Agree with you OP.

In fact is say we wouldn't even need a top 10 QB. Give us a top 15-20 and we would be.

However, EJ hasn't been that bad. Just not very good. He's not doing much to win you games (minus Carolina) but he's not doing anything to lose you games (I guess minus Cleveland where he got himself injured).

In the end, he's right about where he should be with Rookie play and he's learning. Hopefully we stay in the hunt with Lewis while EJ is out because this defense is just getting healthy and could get even better. Would be a shame to waste such a good defensive year on no playoffs.

Stig, you must be joking . . . EJ's more than "not bad". Regardless of his paper stats, he LED the offense in every game, especially the almost-win vs Pats and the actual win vs Carolina. When he left the Browns game, the offense EVAPORATED. Being a QB is about more than pass completion percentage - you must inspire confidence and get OTHERS to play at their best - EJ does that, as a ROOKIE! He's going to be a top-10 QB someday - maybe sooner rather than later. <<GUSH>>

Great defensive year? The Bills are currently ranked 23rd in total defense, and just allowed crappy Brandon Weeden to burn them.

The Bills have more problems then just a decent backup QB. But going into the season with an un drafted FA rookie QB was simply moronic. Kind of Jauron as GM moronic

Thank you, Debbie Downer. Best D we've had in years. I agree about the backup QB though.

Don't blame the rookie QB, blame the rookie offensive coordinator.

We should be 4-1 and possibly 5-0.

Nope. I'm not really blaming Manuel, he is being nurtured along. But the last 2 seasons, no one with a brain thought they were serious contenders with Fitz as QB, but for the defense.

This year they are staying in games, but aren't quite getting the offense they need. It's not running on all cylinders yet.

Yes, some big mistakes on defense, but they are by backups, and there are guys already on the roster that will replace them soon.

EJ was drafted 16 by the Bills and the belief was he has the highest potential out of any QB in last years draft. From what i have seen i believe the front office was correct. EJ will be very good if he stays healthy. The guy has the will and 'it' factor. He wants to get better and produce. He is bright and a leader. Give him another year or two and this front office another draft or two and we could be looking at a perennial playoff contender.

The important thing is the team is being built all around. key pieces are being put in place for the Bills to be succesful.

Over the past two years many of us have had to watch the QB seal a defeat with a bad pick late in the game. So far EJ has done the exact opposite.

I dont directly blame the QB.....

In their 3 loses....

NE: The defense got tired due to playing too much. Had they had NE without those two they win easily.

Jets: QB gets lucky on go routes. Had Bills been healthier at CB they win this game.

CLE: injury to QB and the punt return for TD.

Had Gailey kept the defense and kept Fewell as a DC when he was hired, He'd likely still have a job. the offense played well enough to win games...the defense sucked.

DREAMING.

Yep the defense sucked, but FITZ as he showed again yesterday, is NEVER going to win enough games, or get anywhere in the playoffs. NEVER.

This year's team is a whole different beast.

Guys, almost every game comes down to a couple of plays one way or the other that cause you to either win or lose. The difference between the Bills and other teams is that Good teams are the ones that win those one or two “difference making” plays. It is that way pretty much every year.

Every year half way through the season Bills fans are saying, man…if only if we had not missed that play in this game and that field goal in that game or that ref didn’t make that bogus call or whatever. It is this way every year.

This year is no different.

The Bills will be good when they start winning those games because they made the big play. Right now, they still can’t find a way to win them because they simply don’t make enough of those plays. At the end of the year, that adds up to missing the playoffs yet again. They still are not a playoff team unless they get a lot better at key positions, especially quarterback.

I disagree.

It's not that what you say isn't often true. It's that the Bills have been BAD, and though many games in the past may have been lost that way. Most times the team was just plain overmatched.

And the difference between Peyton Manning (with an average defense) or even Ben Roethlisberger, and a team with Trent Edwards or JP Losman (and an average defense) isn't "one or two “difference making” plays".

IF

Exactly. The 'IF' game was old 5 years ago.

And...by the way, the Bills D isn't THAT good. They have elevated their play to 'decent'. Maybe even good. But they have given up far too many big plays this year.

Broncos won this week 51-48… go ask a Dallas fan if they think it was one or two plays difference in that game.

Pittsburgh Steelers lost by 7 this week. Go ask a Steelers fan if they think the game was decided by one or two plays.

Bills (and 90% of other NFL teams) fans have been saying this every year for as many years back as they have missed the playoffs. If only we had won this game. If only we had gone for it here instead of kicking. If only we had made that tackle. If only our receiver had caught that pass. If only the punt returner didn’t score. If only….if only….

If only the Bills made one more big play than the other team, then the Bills would win those games instead of losing them.

More times than not, the game is decided by a play here and a play there. If you are blowing teams out then obviously it is more than one or two plays. But games are often decided by a touchdown or less. "Good" teams come out on the winning side of that more than not. "Bad" teams come out on the losing side more times than not. And so far the Bills are on the losing side of that coin.

Do some actual research rather than cherry picking isolated games. Bill Barnwell has written about this a hundred times -

Even good teams don't win much more than 50% of 1score games over a long period of time.

Didn't cherry pick anything dude.

The guy I was responding to mentioned those team quarterbacks in his point. So I just grabbed this weeks games by those two quarterbacks. That is the exact opposite of cherry picking.
