There were at least 19 foggy mornings in August that I was able to count.

The wooly worms are completely black.

The simmons have a spoon.

Farmers almanac says chilly and wet.

We are going to get a bad winter.

a persimmon seed. The interior white part is the kernal - which is what you use to predict your winter. If it is a fork, it will be a mild winter. If it is a knife it will be very cold. If it is a spoon - like this - it will be a lot of precipitation.

They are about the size of a golf ball, and are very gooey. Imagine a kiwano mixed with a tomato mixed with a blueberry.

I hate to throw ice on this :w00t: because it's kind of fun folklore but unfortunately there is no scientific evidence to support any of these.

Somewhat akin to using meteorology to predict your personality/life.

Of course it is for fun but there is still a reason to listen to it. A lot of the old ways may have a lot of myth to them but they also have some half truths. When the sun feels stingy, it's going to rain. When the ants are mounding around their holes it is going to rain. Put vinegar in your washing machine to help get cleaner clothes.

Chilly and wet in winter .... that's going out on a limb.

Our wooly bears are black and orange.

What is a bad winter in North Carolina, anyway?

The worst I have seen gave us 20" of snow in January.

Ha - that was a screw up on my part! Though I guess it it has the same accuracy.

Not sure about the stingy sun but have seen animals change in advance of an approaching hurricane/typhoon. But those are not far ranging predictions or forecasts but recognition of actual physical (pressure, etc.) changes that are occurring which result in an imminent event.

Let me think or ask my girlfriend. I'm tuckered out right now - but I know of a bunch of old ways that generally flow true, if you'd be interested (or anyone else).

Have you ever heard of the series of FoxFire books? I think you might enjoy them.

God I hope so. We've been in a drought for a long time here. We need the snow for some good skiing.

Vinegar does not help clothes get cleaner precisely. It helps clean washing machine of calcium deposits.

Over time this helps clothes get cleaner.

well, yeah, there is that... You can do this in coffee makers and dishwashers...but with clothes it removes the smoke smell, odors, and some organic stains.

It's also been very dry out here the past year. We're still ok I think because we got a ton of rain last year but if we're short on rain this season we're kind of in trouble.

Yeah same here. We had one of the worst fire seasons ever. Both my bro and bro in law fight forest fires. They normally go for maybe a week, sometimes never, during the summer months. This summer they were only HOME for maybe a week or two.
