Is This Law Racist?

Recommended Posts

By contrast, blacks cast only 8.7 percent of absentee ballots, while whites cast 86.4 percent of them. (Blacks are 22 percent of the North Carolina population; whites are 71.9 percent.)

Meanwhile, there are smaller changes to the rules governing mail-in ballots. As WRAL explains, the new rules require that absentee voters list the number from some form of ID. But that doesn't have to be a photo ID — the last four digits of a Social Security number counts, as would a driver's license number or a special ID card number. And absentee voters can get out of that requirement, too. WRAL reports, "If the voter doesn't have any of those numbers, he or she may include documents such as bank statements, pay stubs or utility bills with the request" for an absentee ballot. A failed amendment to the bill that would have allowed people without photo ID to vote in person if they met the requirements for an absentee ballot.

The intent seems pretty clear here. If you show up to vote you need ID, if you just mail it in, you don't.

Everyone has the OPPORTUNITY to use a mail in ballot.

The law is in no way racist since it is applied equally.

I question whether or not you can process this however.

better wait until school starts back up and you can ask your homeroom teacher.

Not true. You see, most black people apparently don't have the three things you need for mail-in ballots: a mailbox, a pen, and 46 cents.

How can you expect them to qualify for mail-in ballot without those three things?

Not to mention, ask yourself this: have you ever seen Cliffy Claven deliver mail to a black person?

Of course not. Why? You do the math.

Great.

Another useless thread started by our new unmitigated moron.

Let's fight stupid with logic:

1. The government support for Planned Parenthood does not allow me to benefit from free/subsidized birth control.

2. Therefore, I demand that they immediately stop funding this. This is not like spending on the Coast Guard. It is distributed in every state, because it is a concern in every state. Every woman benefits form it equally, but, not every American benefits from it equally.

3. There is no equivalent spending for men that offsets this exclusive expenditure for women.

4. Since the budget is in fact, "the law", the law is: sexist.

There is no flaw in that logic. However, the policy it suggests is patently retarded. Patently retarded: just like everything this turd posts.

So let me see if I have this clear...the law doesn't make a distinction on race, the lawsuits do, and thus the law's racist.

Uh...okay.

The voting rights act has disparate impact language in it...not your standard Title VII (Civil Rights Act) language but still language that makes impact significant. We (USA) aren't always just interested in making intentional discrimination illegal. Sometimes, we want to make sure laws we pass are sensitive to the reality of different classes of people. We don't merely make it illegal to deny people in wheelchairs access to buildings....we make it illegal to set up the building so that no wheelchair people can easily get inside. Similarly, we don't just make it illegal to pass clear (intentionally) discriminatory voting laws...but we also make it illegal to pass laws that result in discriminating against certain classes of people unless there is a damn good reason for the law. With that said, you can still pass laws that have a disparate impact...but you need to show a good reason (e.g. a real problem).

TLDR: It isn't just the lawsuits...it's the law.

I have probably mailed in a handful of fraudulent ballots. The guys on the boats ask me to mail their mail... Many absentee ballots now than ever. Who knows who's who? More power to 'em I guess. Give it to me while they are making lock... I will take it to the mail box after my shift on the way home. One pilot knew my politics and asked me to mail a Scott Walker ballot for Wisconsin... He even joked that I would throw it away before mailing. I think his father lives up there... It was his name on the ballot... I mailed it anyway and took a picture of me mailing it... More power to him for voting for the old guy. Most people working the boats and commercial tows are non-union, anti-union... Usually from down south from places like MO, AR... This one pilot must have had family in WI. I still remember the one deckhand saying how he can't vote for Gore because he will grab my guns... Everybody thinks that commercial shipping in Chicago is union and what not... Far from the truth, the backbone of the waterways is from the south and the canals... All the workers, pilots, deckhands, and company owners are from down south... It isn't until they switch to the lake boats and lake tugs that you see a more northern, union presence, & liberal pro-labor workforce... But that is above us on the lake.

I am now thoroughly informed about the political persuasions of the Chicago commercial shipping scene.

"So, I've got that going for me".

Loose lips sink ships? Highly unlikely since they are all showing on the internet AiS.

Take it to the bank. :nana: It really isn't what you think when you think "Chicago politics"... It is all fed waterway. Pretty streamlined and efficient. Got one steaming this way right now from Houtosn Texas with MT tankers. Of course, I don't think he (the phsyical vessel that is) is USCG certified to trip across the tip of the lake to Indiana Harbor and pick up from the refinery. I think they wait for a local outfit to help out out with his shipments. There is another NOLA boat that just sits below us just a few miles... Been there for days, nice that he shows himself on AiS.

I only have I argument on this entire debate: If you're too stupid or lazy to get an ID, then you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Why is this? It should be even easier to vote, we should be doing this crap online in some way. Register to vote, and vote. It is that simple. There is no voter impersonation problem, plain and simple. It is not some huge problem that just so happens to have no evidence of it at all. The incentives to do it are simply not there. It is complete and utter idiocy, and everybody knows it including everyone on this board. If this were in some way flipped, "conservatives" (if that is what we are calling the "voter fraud" crackdown heroes) would be yelling about freedom and how voting is a fundamental right and core to our country and the goal should be to help get every single eligible citizen to vote in each election....Palin would be leading "don't tread on me" marches....but since it isn't flipped the attitude is that stupid/lazy/poor eligible voters should not be able to vote unless they go get an ID they otherwise would not get/don't have? Unbillievable. :)

TLDR: Encouraging all eligible voters to participate and making it as easy to do so as possible is a good thing. Making it harder or more of a pain in the ass for anyone is a bad thing (especially when it provides no benefit...for instance when it is to fix a problem that isn't a problem). Once upon a time this would have been common sense in this country to all people.

Do you deny that Democrats have committed voter fraud all over the country in the last 4 elections?

If so, then you aren't interested in solving problems either. This is because you aren't interested in beginning the problem solving process correctly: with proper problem definition.

Most blacks vote by showing up and have to show id

the majority of absentee ballots are by whites and they can just send in any damn thing they want from dead old aunt Sally or Uncle Al but no proof required.

While anyone can avoid this the intent is clearly to try and help Republicans. If you guys don't see that its because you are so strongly in favor of the Republican Party nothing else matters

What is stopping black Americans from voting absentee?

If I were black and within kicking distance I'd kick you square in the nutz for insinuating that I can't:

1. Figure out how to get an ID

2. Figure out how to vote absentee.

:censored: you on behalf of all the African Americans in this country. And you claim people on the right are racists.
