Stevie is the only receiver in bills history with back to back 1000yd seasons. So saying moulds was close to 5 consecutive 1000 yd seasons is false.

Although their careers are not too far apart Moulds played at the end of the era right before all these rule changes were made to favor the passing game and made passing statistics blow up, Stevie gets to benefit from this

Good point...I feel bad for him.

Evans was a class act and great at go routes. Moulds was more physical and could do almost anything. I think Moulds would have had a shot at the HOF if he had played for the duration of the Kelly years. He would have put up some big numbers.

What???

Ridiculous question. Moulds is a top 50 all time WR in the NFL.

Moulds was a great receiver who caught balls from Kelly, Flutie and even Bledsoe. Evans might have been great but we'll never know because he caught balls from Losman and Edwards.

Lee Evans had a significantly higher points per game average than Moulds. Like 20% better.

Moulds averaged about 4.5 yards more per game than Evans.

For part of his career Moulds had a pro bowl caliber #2 receiver on the other side of the field in Peerless Price, and a pro bowl QB throwing to him in Bledsoe (who ranks 5th in the NFL for all time completions). Evans never had either.

Moulds head coach Marv Levy didn't play much as a rookie, which stunted his growth a little bit. Evans was on the field from day 1.

They both were durable and made some unbelievable catches in their careers. Moulds was probably a better blocker just because of his T.O. type body, but I don't know that for sure.

I don't think it's as much of no brainer as people think. If receivers jobs are to get in the endzone, you go with Evans. Moulds was more feared and more intense. Great work ethic for both guys, and great teammates.

I'd probably go with Moulds because his voice sounded exactly like Apollo Creed's. "let's go Stallion....."

FWIW, Pro Football Reference attaches an "Approximate Value" to players, and Moulds is ranked significantly higher than Evans.

I have yet to fully read the multiple posts explaining how the AV is derived, so I'm not claiming the methodology is sound. And of course it's not like this is some sort of universally accepted measure of greatness or anything. Hopefully, the stat geeks will enjoy debunking or supporting this...

Just thought I'd throw it out here: http://www.pro-footb...f/career-av.htm

Here's the basis for the methodology: http://www.pro-footb...g/?page_id=8061

There are more posts explaining the reasoning in further detail that can be found here: http://www.pro-footb...og/?page_id=518

It's frustrating when these kind of statements get repeated round and round the campfire without putting them in context... of the NFL now vs. the NFL then.

Johnson, despite his 1,000 yard seasons, is not even in the top 10 all-time Bills WRs (talent wise), IMO.

I would disagree, although I'm not familiar with the pre Kelly days, so I can't say where Yeevie ranks. But he's pretty damn good and I'd bet he's arguably as good as whoever's 6-10 on your list.

And that site's opinion is actually just these 35 guys' opinions: http://www.rankopedia.com/ViewAllVotes/9492/.htm?refresh=71130926

Also, most of those votes were tallied prior to Stevie breaking out as a starter.

Agreed. That site's a bit sketchy, even if the rankings seem pretty good to me..

How about this one: http://www.pro-footb...r-receiving.htm

The only guy in that top-10 that I'd say Johnson is better than is Josh Reed...and possibly Price, although Peerless had some pretty similar stats.

Go ahead and read into my post however you want, but it was a simple statistic. My post was in response to the post which stated that moulds was X many yards from 5 consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. I was pointing out that Stevie is the only Bills receiver to ever even have 2 consecutive 1,000 yd seasons. I never stated that Stevie was ranked in the top (pick your ranking) amongst bills receivers.

Your post lacks some context as well....Reed played with a pretty good team (including 6 other receivers/tight ends appearing on your rankopedia list). To say that those who surrounded Reed, Lofton, Beebe, Metzelaars, Riemersma, Moulds etc didnt make their stats better and their lives easier truly lacks context.

Also, I have to wonder why you post as though this rankopedia means anything? The same guy that authored this ranking list also ranked Buffalo Bills all time QB's in the following order: 1) Jim Kelly 2) Joe Ferguson 3) Jack Kemp 4) JP Losman 5) Trent Edwards 6) Doug Flutie 7) Drew Bledsoe....etc. The receivers list also has Roscoe Parrish listed as 12th of all time receivers/tight ends in Bills history, ranked ahead of Stevie Johnson and Pete Metzelaars.

Just because something comes up in a google search doesnt make it true. One man's opinion is just that...an opinion.
