National NFL Fandom Map from Facebook Data

Charlotte and the area has a lot of Steelers fans. Cowboys and Redskins fans are popular here. The Bills are probably top 5 in the Charlotte area. Many Yankees maze their way here and before the Panthers people usually pulled for the Skins or Cowboys.

it would be incredibly weird if one of your local counties was predominantly bills fans. like i said up thread, think of it like an election map more. you win the county you get colored in, even if someone had a strong showing. outside of a few pockets, the colors will simply match the the home teams, and in those big midwestern states with few teams and fewer fans you will see big sweeping areas that are likely very little in the way of fan count.

the jets are the best example as they share a stadium in the biggest city there is but since they are the second tier team, they show nothing. its like voting republican in NYC - you wont win any counties but the raw numbers are bigger than you would see in north dakota.

id be curious to see some of the next level style that were used with the political maps that did shading for splits or corrections for population size. with 32 teams it would obviously be a disaster but if you could just select the ones you were curious about itd be cool (kind of like their playoff and superbowl ones).

hes actually the only one with internet, so he took the whole region on this.

LOL

No offense Jim - send us a smoke signal to confirm you received this message.

Pretty crazy how much area the cowboys still command. The bills are definitely one of the smallest areas on that map

This is why Russ Brandon's regionalization efforts are so important. Buffalo does not have a large population and our fan base doesn't extend far beyond Buffalo. We need to get South Ontario to back the Bills if we want to cement the Bills long term future in WNY.

To borrow a phrase...just win baby.

Notice the grid at the bottom of the link that shows fans and the most common fan friends? Apparently nobody likes us!

Bills fans don't make it into the top 5 of any other team's fans. Every other team's fans, however, list either Dallas or Steelers fans or both as friends.

Looks like Dallas is "America's Team" after all, followed by Steelers.

That's really cool. It's a shame we can't see it in five year intervals going back a number of years to measure impact of on-field success (49ers, Denver, NO, etc. seem to be benefiting from recent success).

Obviously NE has benefited tremendously over the past 10 years, though I can't believe how many bandwagon douchebags rooted for them over the Ravens. Where's the NE hate people!!

Cowboys still have an impressive fanbase. Funny how they still own Texas almost right up to the Houston city limits.

All the Broncos have is really Colorado and Wyoming and a little bit more. Wyoming has half the people of Erie County living in the entire state. You have to understand that Denver is in the midddle of nowhere so their fanbase spreads pretty far, geographically speaking.

And every last one of 'em has an incredible inferiority complex as well. In their minds they are the most unjustly treated teams in the NFL based on coverage, respect, number of hall of famers, etc... completely insufferable, which made their latest choke job even sweeter.

Side by side with a map of the second most popular team I bet would be very telling when it comes to fanbase size.... Number one is obviously local, number two could still be regional but I bet NE, Pitt, and Dallas nearly cover the whole map, or even take a singular team and shade anywhere they are top 5

Facebook has to be very heavily skewed towards younger users. Most younger people are not going to be Bills fans at this point. I'd be curious to see how much these changed by age group. I wonder how much of a spike you would see for teams like Buffalo and Miami who haven't done anything for years among older people.

AIR, ATL, BUF, CAR, DET, HOU, JAC, KC, SEA, STL, TB, TEN didn't have any friends either from what I can see. Also, the Cowboys and Steelers are the top favorites for every team except the best rivalries. (GB/CHI, SF/OAK, NYJ/NYG and DAL/PIT are all the big rivalries and they all are top friends of each other)
