Beerball Posted April 29, 2012 Share Posted April 29, 2012 I'm intrigued by the fact that he had a lot of tackles in spite of getting a lot of touchbacks. How does a guy do something like that? Maybe he's got special powers. He punted too, didn't he? There are only 53 spots. If he gets on the team and doesn't supplant Lindell, then the long snapper most likely goes. Bills seventh-round pick K John Potter is seen by Buffalo as a kickoff specialist. After having so many of their own opponents blast it through the end zone to neutralize kick returner Brad Smith last season, Buffalo would like to return the favor. “That’s mostly what people did to us,” said Bills GM Buddy Nix. Potter had a 44% touchback percentage in college. Consider that the kickoff is 5 yards shorter in the NFL and his percentage should be well over 50%. Carrying an extra kicker on your team is worth not giving up valuable field position. A 28% touchback percentage is awful. Potter will get that over 50%. I agree - he was extremely tentative. You could time him hitting the hole with a sundial. He also seemed tentative to me at the LOS, running the wildcat too, especially as the season wore on. Gailey has said as much -- they didn't have the luxury of designing plays for him that they really wanted to. And then, when the injury bug hit the WRs, Smith was forced into that role -- one for which he was not really prepared. I'm sure this affected his return game as well. I'm expecting much bigger things out of Smith this season -- particularly as the Wildcat QB. I don't think he'll even return kicks. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
