In other posts I've mentioned this same thing....Carrington is a great physical specimen and was the DE in college and I think he's got great strength and a quick step. I've been a proponent of letting Carrington man one side since the switch to 4-3 b/c I think he could be a good guy against the run and a decent pass rusher, put him opposite MW and along side KW and Dareus, and I believe that's the line to go with and let Kelsey and Merriman be the pass rush specialist...

With one of the DE positions secured (and how!-) I am seeing a lot of talk about how Kelsay and Merriman are going to fit into the remaining available slot. But I don't think I've seen so much as a mention of Carrington over the last few days. When he was allowed to play End last year, he outplayed both Kelsay and Merriman in both 3 and 4 man fronts and with an offseason to condition as a 4/3 DE, he's likely to be even better this year.

Folks seem to be just assuming that Kelsay is going to man that LDE spot with Merriman doing spot duty as a situational pass rusher. But don't dismiss Carrington as the potential starter at DE; even at his age, he's a more well-rounded and complete player than either of the guys everybody else is talking about and I think he's going to give both Kelsay and Merriman everything they can handle when its time to decide who our starters are in August.

well we are going to need depth and we will use a de rotation right? so kelsey and carrington can be rotated in and out? go bills in 2012:-)

It's all a plot. Mario takes number 90, goes full white-face, and lines up at LDE. QBs think he's Kelsay and naturally assume they've got 7-8 seconds in the pocket.

Thats funny **** right there!!

But the reason i asked the LDE question is because i thought it was Kelsays natural position and lord knows he been asked to do alot of stuff for us that was kinda stupid.

For those of you that want him gone, just remember he never has given up he always plays hard and honest. And he has suffered through a poor team losing seasons with no hope and did whatever was asked. He should be allowed to retire here.

Also i have no problem with him competing for the starting positions and playing second or situational. But he is solid and will look much better this year. A last thought i bet he was getting rewarded with that contract that i could never figure out, because if we pick up another end he might need to restructure his contract. Maybe Buddy knew that too.

Carrington? Kelsay? you're all missing the obvious.... Jasper will benefit more than anyone else!! Go Jasper!!

Carrington, Jasper and Easley. Three mainstays of the all fan team that haven't done a thing on the field.

Come on Doc, you know we all need links around here! (really I don't care. I'll take your word for it even though it is hard for me to believe)

For $96 million, he better play where ever the hell they want him to play!

I think I saw Mario say it, too, but it may have been only Nix. Mario prefers to play LDE where he played in college and they told him he could. He played mostly RDE in Houston but they moved him around a lot, and I'm sure the Bills will do that a little. He was also told he wouldn't have to drop back in coverages much on zone blitzes. They want him to rush the passer. I like our ends a ton with Mario, Merriman, Kelsay and Carrington, although they may play Carrington inside.

Carrington could really surprise although I still think Merriman is the X factor. For example, when Barnett was talking about how it would help the other DL, the first guy he listed was Merriman. Granted, that's his buddy, and what Barnett says doesn't really mean much. But it does tell me that he believes Merriman will be there and playing when the season starts. There is no way we can count on Merriman to even start the season let alone finish it, but if he is healthy, and can push off his foot, we're going to be scary.

One last note from today: Buf def coord Dave Wannstedt told me Mario Williams will play LE in Bills' 4-3. RTs of AFC East getting nervous.

+1

I very much agree with you. I look forward to seeing Carrington play as a DE in this scheme

I think some of us will be pleasantly surprised when we get our 4-3 up and running, how good everyone starts to look. i mean everyone. even Jasper lol.

i believe the Wannstadt change was made for a couple reasons. one is that he thinks with a couple key pieces ( DE SSLB) we have the players to be succesful. I expect us to draft two fast linebackers one inside one outside and a corner. DE is no longer a priority i think, and i'm surprised some mocks still have us picking that slug a bed coples.
