I wouldn't be thrilled to have Tommy Boy (or "Ol' Sugar Packets" as someone at SabreSpace calls him.) Buying the Dodgers would not exclude him from owning the Bills, other than he might not be able to afford both franchises. With no NFL in L.A. he could also own the Bills if he wanted.

Good. After his tenture owning the Sabres, he's the last guy I want buying the Bills.

people DIS him for what he did with Sabres but people forget the teams he owned won the presidents cup and if not for a bunch of injure Dmen make the stanley cup and likely win it in 2006. Sure his lack of funding the operations meant the demise post 2006 but he did rescue the team

True he owned the team in that period, but I think he was coasting with the team Darcy built while the Sabres were a ward of the NHL. When it came to keeping the band together he and his lapdog Larry didn't do so hot.

The league had to run the Sabres for two years due to the Rigas debacle.

Only two interested parties emerged during that time to purchase the team which was teetering on bankruptcy. One person, Hamister was not judged to be a viable owner.

As such there was only one person who could purchase the team and keep it in Buffalo.

That was Golisano.

Can we please be properly grateful to those who deserve our gratitude?

People should be VERY grateful to Golisano for saving that franchise. He is/was not a hockey fan at all but basically bought the team as a favor/civic duty to keep the team in Buffalo. Not only that, he bought them with the intention of only selling the team to someone who would keep it in Buffalo and received many offers to sell the team at a hefty profit but those prospective owners would have moved the team. He bought and owned it to eventually sell the team to someone who loved the Sabres, and boy did that work out.

He will/would be probably be a great owner as he is a great businessman and he loves baseball.

Be grateful for the guy as he saved the Sabres!!

Good post.

The same guy swho bizarrely knock Golisano for rescuing the Sabres are the same guys who never fail to praise Ralph for "keeping the Bills in Buffalo", as though he was ever going to leave and kill his golden goose.

ya, except for the fact that they didn't win it in 06. They didn't win it during the prez trophy year. They lost McGee, Drury, Briere, Campbell because they were lowballing all if them and wouldn't change thier business practices of negotiating during the season. They severly overpaid for Vanek, Pominville and Miller. They never accumulated a decent backup goalie when they needed one.

Yup, they almost won it in 06 and 07 but didn't. Just like we didn't win it in 99 and the Bills flopped 4 Superbowls. Fact is, we didn't win. Fact is Galisano was a horrible owner other than the fact that he had Buffalo love and kept this team in Buffalo (which I am greatful for regardless of my bashing). Enjoy your "almost" wins in 06 and 07.

A t-shirt needs to be made about what you just said about Ralph Wilson.

Ralph was never going to move this team at any point in it's existence, it would have cost way too much money, and more than likely cost him sole ownership. Thanking Ralph for not spending the money to leave Buffalo is really what fans are doing. He did not keep the team here for the community's sake, he did so for his own benefit.
