Former Patriots TE Lee Smith was claimed on waivers by Buffalo. Former Cowboys CB Josh Thomas claimed on waivers by Carolina.

Just a few quotes on him:

"Smith had a strong start to camp, and was ahead of Yeatman on the depth chart for the first preseason game. But Yeatman made his move in the second preseason game when he had a chance to play with the starters and seized the chance. "

"Smith was a big, mature player who was selected for his ability to contribute right away. Instead, he struggled to get open and was knocked back blocking. Meanwhile, Yeatman, the former lacrosse player, impressed. He’s raw, but there is room to learn."

So much for the "flashes" that Pianalto showed.

Sounds promising.

Another analysis, seems like a nice pickup, I'm sure no one would have complained had they drafted him in the 5th round:

Strengths: Has very soft hands and catches the ball away from his body. Throttles down and gets his head around quickly on comeback routes. Uses his body well to create separation. Gets upfield quickly after the catch, shows some wiggle after the catch. Lowers his shoulder and fight for extra yards, and can make the first tackler miss. Tough to bring to the ground. Uses rip moves well to beat the jam at the line. Also lines up as a wide receiver. Keeps a wide base as a blocker and owns a strong upper body, providing a good initial pop into the defender and driving his legs to sustain. Will locate and block additional defenders downfield, using correct angles. Blocks hard until the whistle blows.

Weaknesses: Very slow release off the line. Not a natural route-runner and shows no ability to create separation. Lacks speed and acceleration. Regularly rounds off his routes. Does not break down well and has a very tough time blocking in space. Shows terrible form cut blocking. Leaves the inside lane vulnerable when on the line and can give up penetration. Does not always get his hands inside and has a tendency to grab outside the defender's shoulder pads.

Seems like they like their TEs big.

I guess Yeatman is happy now that he ditched lax for football at UMd. He never got to the level they were hoping for when they brought him over from Nother Dame to play attack for the Terps, at least. He did miss out on playing with Md. in the NCAA lax national championship this Spring, but I suspect playing for the Pats* will be a fine compensation!

And that was the last time we did - 2003....LOL! His valuable information helped us beat them once the past 8 years.

No LOL here. He was signed by Buffalo days before the first game. We SMOKED them on opening day and his info was likely a large part of that victory. That close to the regular season, he was certainly privy to 'that' initial gameplan etc. Given that the victory occurred right after we signed Milloy and the fact that we have not beaten them since only supports the premise.
