They wanted him to be smart, down to earth, and classy, a family man and preferably Irish-Catholic. Ryan Fitzpatrick, if he becomes “great” will fit this mold. I think it is natural to want your sports heroes to have “character”. Cam Newton is not smart, not down to earth, not classy, not a family man, and certainly not Irish-Catholic. Maybe this is why so many of you fans are against drafting him. Character is nice, but it does not necessarily win football games. Draft Newton if he is available because he is the best chance the Bills have to save the franchise As i wrote in a previous reply - in todays world 99% of people & organizations will do what ever it takes to come out on top and that means setting all moral & character issues aside in order to get there & it sounds by your post that you are very close to being there too . With that said I am an Auburn fan, and I say we have to take Cam if he is available. His combination of size and speed and accuracy are a rare combination. His passing numbers would be even better, but the offense at Auburn is designed for a dual threat qb. In the NFL he will not be asked to run that often, but being able to do so when needed could make him great(Steve Young, John Elway). I'm not saying he will be that good but he has the skill set to go very far. I say give him a chance, how many of us would really measure up if judged on our behavior in college. James Carville watches a lot of SEC football and he said that Cam Newton is the best college player he's ever seen. Tony said there is no way you can name 4 better seasons ever. I now want this guy! Of course, we need defense, etc., but to get to be a Super Bowl contender without an elite QB, you need an all time great defense. 85 Bears, 00 Ravens, 02 Bucs.
