The implosion of what remains of the Republican party
PastaJoe replied to Bishop Hedd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
A couple of facts about the elections: In Virginia, in every governor's election since 1977, they have voted in the candidate of the opposite party of the sitting president every time. In New York, a Democrat has not won in the 23rd district since the Civil War. -
The implosion of what remains of the Republican party
PastaJoe replied to Bishop Hedd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Being in the tv market that covers the 23rd, I'll be glad when it's over so I don't have to see all the political commercials all the time. If the Democrats do well tomorrow, they'll claim it's a referendum on Obama. If the Republicans do well, they'll claim it's a referendum on Obama. The truth is neither is true. The two governor races are about the persons and campaigns in the races. I predict a Republican win in Virginia and a Democrat win in New Jersey. The 23rd is a funny race. It's a traditional Republican district, with the last election going to the Republican by a 2-1 margin. But Obama won the district for himself last year. Then a cabal of 11 Republicans chose a candidate (Dede) instead of running a primary, who according to the commercials is the only one in the race who is for card check, Obama's economic policies, and gay marriage. So the real moderate ends up being the Democrat, and the Conservatives put forth a candidate who's for a flat tax, privatizing Social Security, and is anti-abortion rights. So it will be interesting if the majority Republican district will stay moderate and give enough support to the Democrat to win, or will they take a hard turn to the right and support a Conservative. Right now it's too close to call, and will probably be decided on which side can get their voters out. If the Conservative wins, it could be a case of winning the battle but losing the war, if it encourages a group that would consider Reagan policies as R.I.N.O., to run a hard line Conservative for senator, governor, or the presidency. -
Meanwhile Junior Seau will be rejoining the Pats...

Face it, we're hostages to our own loyalty. They've already made their money off the ticket sales for this year, so whether you show or not doesn't change the finances except for concessions and parking. And if there's a drop off in future years, they'll threaten to move the team. So we either continue to support a mediocre organization, or they'll leave for greener pastures. So we're screwed either way.

United Nations inspectors will visit Iran's recently disclosed nuclear power plant on October 25, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency announced Sunday from Tehran. "It is important for us to send out inspectors to do comprehensive verification ... to assure ourselves that it is ... fit for peaceful purposes," Mohamed ElBaradei said. And ElBaradei said progress was being made on Iran's request for enriched uranium to help treat cancer patients. Iran will sit down with the United States, Russia and France on October 19 at IAEA headquarters in Vienna, Austria, to discuss that request, he said. A deal on that front could be important because it could reduce the amount of nuclear fuel Iran has to make a bomb. Under the agreement, Iranian low-enriched uranium -- not weapons-grade material -- would be sent abroad and enriched further before being sent back for use in Iranian medical research, ElBaradei said. http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/10/04/...lear/index.html

Which NFL team reminds you of our Bills?
PastaJoe replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could be Cleveland, but when I think of the owner and front office I think of Cincinnati. Another team that had a good run in the 90s, then went back to their inept organization ways, showing occasional sparks of hope, but then falling back into mediocrity through poor coaching, lack of talent, and injuries. -
Yeah, he should resign because being 4th out of 4 on such a significant issue is inexcusable. Getting the world to pressure Iran to agree to inspections pales to the Olympics. I was hired last week after being unemployed since April. The march of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

Bills game not shown in Syracuse and CNY area
PastaJoe replied to Metal Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's a sliver of farmland in the westernmost part of the Syracuse television market that is within the Buffalo-NFL blackout zone, so because of that everyone in the Syracuse market loses out. When the NFL expanded the blackout zone years ago, they were happy to find that fact out to justify the expanded blackout. In Syracuse, the Beginning II restaurant is know as the local Bills spot. It's in East Syracuse about 10 miles south of the closest Thruway exit 34A. I just checked the Time Warner Sunday listings, and the Syracuse day games are Giants-Bucs, Titans-Jets, and Dolphins-Chargers. -

Too bad London Fletcher lost his skills to play. Oh wait, he's still starting for the Redskins.
-
Brooks wouldn't have the speed to stay with Watson either. The mistake was the coaches not adjusting and putting a faster player on Watson after the first TD, or moving a safety on Watson. Getting burned on the same play call twice in 5 minutes is the coaches fault.
-
If they can't win when they play as well as they did for the first 55 minutes, then what can we expect when they don't play their best and the injuries start piling up.

This has got to be the worst defeat
PastaJoe replied to Rayzer32's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd rather lose 41-3. At least then you don't have your heart ripped out again. This is what separates winners from losers. Winners know how to finish off a game with a lead. -

Ralph has standing orders not to waste any Gatorade. Any left in the cups is thrown back in the jugs for the next game. And don't ask about the hot dog wrappers you leave under your seats. -

Rudy clearing the way for NY governor run
PastaJoe replied to UConn James's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
And let's overlook that President Bush drove up the deficit with a huge tax cut for the wealthy that was not paid for with equal cuts in spending and are going to be paid for by (wait for it, it's a favorite of conservatives) our children and grandchildren, and that much of the spending in the past few months have been to stabilize the economy and banks that tanked before he took office. But I suppose you supply siders who like to be trickled on would rather we went into an economic depression, and then blame Obama for doing nothing. -
"The 33-second ad by the League of American Voters, which features a neurosurgeon who warns that a government-run health care system will lead to the rationing of procedures and medicine" "It tells the truth and it really highlights one of the biggest vulnerabilities and problems with this proposed legislation, which is it rations health care and disproportionately will decimate the quality of health care for seniors." These are not facts, there are no proposals in any of the bills that have come out of the committees that call for rationing. Therefore they were perfectly right to turn down this ad that lies about the proposals. They might as well have included death panels in the ad, since it's just as misleading.

Like the repercussion of making a short term investment to prime the pump to increase demand which leads to increased production which leads to more employment which means increased tax revenue which means paying for the short term investment. That repercussion? Please stay away, we don't want people who mock the blind.
