  1. I don't worship anyone, you moron, but I do trust Obama's decision making, especially his foreign policy team. Bush's problems with the deficit and two wars didn't start with Clinton. He came in with a surplus, gave it away in tax cuts for the rich which haven't helped our long term growth, took the government's focus off al Queda and on Saddam, and ordered the unnecessary Iraq invasion.
  2. Sitting in a chair piled high with the sh#t that the last guy left on it is a tough job. Fortunately he's up to the cleanup task.
  3. That's pretty weak. No rational person believes that guns and ammo will ever be outlawed, that's settled law. That's a fear tactic used by the NRA to prevent ANY reasonable legislation like Brady.
  4. It's ironic that Bristol Palin's abstinence tour is sponsored by Candie's, the teen clothing line that also has Britney Spears as a spokesperson to promote a line of sexy provocative clothes for teens. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/05/b...u_n_196838.html http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/07/opinion/07collins.html
  5. Plus the anti-abortion shooter the week before. And it's only been 5 months into the administration. And it's not about veterans, it's about legally monitoring those anti-gov't groups who often try to recruit from the pool of retired veterans. Tree huggers, etc., didn't run to the gun shops to load up on weapons when Bush became president. It's a fact that right wing militia groups increased recruitment and membership after Obama was elected, and there was a rise in gun sales. It's a fact that the false claim of WMD in Iraq was the major selling point to get support for the invasion. And what powers are the Obama administration using that the Supreme Court has ruled as unconstitutional?
  6. No, I mean less religion in general, not any specific, and I'm speaking as a Christian. And what does Israel have to do with religion in the U.S. gov't?
  7. Conservatives can't even handle the truth from FOXNews (which sounds similar to some who post here): On June 10, Fox News anchor Shepard Smith said the Holocaust Memorial Museum shooting validated a recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report alerting law enforcement to an increased threat from "rightwing extremists," including "white supremacists." Smith said: "[T]his is a former military guy and he's gone extremist. They were warning us for a reason -- not about something political or social or anything else. ... It was a warning to us all. And it appears now that they were right." Smith also said that he's receiving "more and more frightening" emails from viewers since President Obama's election, including conspiracy theories about Obama's birth certificate. In response to Smith's remarks about the Holocaust museum shooting, several conservative media figures have attacked Smith or called for his firing from Fox News. During his June 11 radio program, Rush Limbaugh said of Smith's remarks: "For liberals to now claim that the atmosphere is somehow more violently anti-Obama is simply preposterous." Limbaugh also said Smith was "whining and moaning and complaining about emails." After stating that he, too, got "vile, sick emails," Limbaugh said, "Shep, you got nothing on anybody out there." In a June 10 post headlined "Please Shepard Smith Out the Door!" on the blog Atlas Shrugs, conservative blogger Pamela Geller, who has frequently promoted conspiracy theories about Obama's birth certificate, wrote of Smith -- who has also debunked the claim that in the DHS report, the Obama administration was targeting conservatives and others simply because they disagree with administration policies and proposals: "How amusing that Shepard feels the need to take this opportunity to scold us for doing the job the media and schmucks like him won't do. He also took the opportunity to vouch for the DHS report on right wing extremism. You know, the one that targeted vets, tea party attendees, Jewish extremists -- as the real threats to the country. The 89 year old Nazi Von Brunn served in World War II -- are those the new terror threats? WW2 vets? Scary stupidity. FOX could do so much better than this pompous elitist. If Beck proved anything, it's that if you are halfway talented, your numbers will go through the roof. Beating the competition when you're on FOX is no biggie. The competition of CNN, MSNBC et al drives people to FOX. Leading the leftwing media asshats is not the bar to beat. FOX numbers are the bar. I am sure, for example, if FOX dropped Beck into Greta's spot, he would increase their numbers at 10pm by 30%. But Shep sucks. And Shep has always sucked, and it's time to get rid of the deadwood." http://mediamatters.org/research/200906110030
  8. More statements by the promoter of paranoia, Rush Limbaugh, yesterday, trying a CYA to avoid blame for fanning the flames of intolerance. "This guy (Von Brunn) is a leftist, if anything. This guy‘s beliefs—this guy‘s hate stems from influence that you find on the left, not on the right." Take a look at Von Brunn's letter from his car. If you replace the hateful use of the word "Jew" with "liberal", without knowing the source you would think it was from conservative talking heads talking points: “You want my weapons. This is how you‘re going to get them. Obama was created by liberals. Obama does what his liberal owners tell him to do. Liberals captured America‘s money. They control the mass media. The first amendment is abrogated.”
  9. Wow, that's pretty wacked. We need less religion in politics, not more.
  10. Their words, not mine: "We have to stop and shout, and stop this and oppose it," Limbaugh added. "This is not the America that you and I grew up - I said earlier if al-Qaida wants to demolish the America we know and love, they'd better hurry, because Obama's beating them to it." - Rush http://newsbusters.org/blogs/jeff-poor/200...irness-doctrine "It is offensive to the sensibilities of millions of people to hear a member of the state-run media refer to a half-black, half-white human being with no experience running anything of substance referred to as a god. He may be president of the United States, but he's not a god." - Rush http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/06...nce.php?ref=fpb "Ladies and gentlemen, there can be no other way to say this now. The gloves have to come off. It's time for people to sober up. The president of the United States, Barack Obama, is destroying the United States economy. There is no other way to describe this, systematically destroying it". - Rush http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE...p;pageId=100595 "Obama is the greatest living example of a reverse racist, and now he's appointed one." - Rush http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/05/26/ru...-obama-racists/ "And mark my words, this is going to be next, I fear, bail out next debt-ridden states. Then government gets to get in there and control the people." - Palin http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/18738 If you don't think that mentally deranged people with an existing hatred of minorities and the gov't can't and don't take those statements out of context and see them as a call to arms, you are delusional. Rush and his ilk are not legally responsible for any actions, but they have a moral responsibility to not recklessly throw around wrong and misleading statements that will incite others who take their words verbatim. Flame away if you can't handle the truth, but words matter.
  11. Expected responses from right wing apologists.
  12. If you don't think that all this anti-gov't fear mongering talk doesn't rile up these mentally unstable people, you're delusional. Some nuts actually believe what Rush and his ilk say.
  13. Shooter is reported to be an 89 year old anti-government/white supremacist. Thank you to all the right wing wackos like Rush and Palin for stirring the pot with their anti-government fear mongering speeches that are taken to heart by weak minded people like this and the anti-abortion shooter.
  14. Still some here trying to justify the killing of an American in his church because they disagree with his legal profession. Unbelievable. I guess to be consistent you must also approve the killing of military recruiters because the murderer disagreed with their legal profession which recruits people to kill others in battle. Or do you pick and choose who the law should apply to?
  15. You're free to kill anyone you want. Just be prepared to face the legal consequences.
  16. Chrysler needed the financial backing of Fiat to remain viable, the gov't loans were dependent on getting additional private backing.
  17. Fair enough. I hope you and others, such as politicians who support that position, make that view clear when discussing the issue in public forums, so the voters are fully informed what making abortions illegal will mean from a legal standpoint.
  18. I turned the radio on last night and it was on a station that plays one of the right wing commentators, Bill Cunningham. I listened for a couple of minutes to hear what he was ranting about, and every time he said the judge's name, he called her Judge SotoMANURE. Nice.
  19. I'd like to hear from those that believe abortion is murder, how far are you willing to take the issue legally? If I assume correctly, you would like to make abortion illegal. So given it being illegal, would you want to charge a doctor performing an abortion with murder? And if you do, then logically you would have to charge the expectant woman with accessory to murder, since she is the one to request and pay for the murder. I don't see how you could be consistent and charge the doctor but not the woman.
  20. Unbelievable that some here trivialize, if not justify, the fact that a person in America was shot in their church because someone disagreed with their LEGAL profession.
  21. Yes, the 2nd amendment as it pertains to Heller is settled law. But the type of weapon (automatic, semiautomatic) is still open to interpretation.
  22. She is Catholic, so I wonder if the right would mind if she used her background and experiences to rule against Roe v Wade. But it was reported that she told Obama that she believes in leaving "settled law" alone.
  23. Ted Olson, the staunch conservative Republican lawyer who was Bush's lawyer in Bush v. Gore, is now working to overturn Prop 8 in Calif. because he believes it violates the 14th amendment Due Process and Equal Protection clauses. "The constitution protects individuals' basic rights that cannot be taken away by a vote. If the people of California had voted to ban interracial marriage, it would have been the responsibility of the courts to say that they cannot do that under the constitution. We believe that denying individuals in this category the right to lasting, loving relationships through marriage is a denial to them, on an impermissible basis, of the rights that the rest of us enjoy…I also personally believe that it is wrong for us to continue to deny rights to individuals on the basis of their sexual orientation." http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/...--46137917.html
  24. Supreme Court Justice Alito's own words during his confirmation: ALITO: Senator, I tried to in my opening statement, I tried to provide a little picture of who I am as a human being and how my background and my experiences have shaped me and brought me to this point. ... And that's why I went into that in my opening statement. Because when a case comes before me involving, let's say, someone who is an immigrant -- and we get an awful lot of immigration cases and naturalization cases -- I can't help but think of my own ancestors, because it wasn't that long ago when they were in that position. [...] And that goes down the line. When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/28/a...k_n_208531.html Is Alito a racist because he would use his ethnic background to help decide?
  25. I would argue that they have the same in common; a war at this point would end in destruction of both sides. And I think it's stereotyping to think that most Israelis and most Arabs hate each other. The majority would be happy to just go on with their own lives without anyone else bothering them. It's the few extremists on both sides that stir the pot, just like the political discourse in our country.
