Beane Presser 12.6.23 - interesting comments on Von

I said defense attorney, not DA. As in Miller's defense attorney, not the prosecuting DA for Texas. -

Yes...and when those people are cross examined by the defense attorney do you know how it's going to go? Def Attorney: "You stated you examined her and found evidence of assault?" Medical Staff: "Yes, that is correct." Def Attorney: "Did you see Mr. Miller commit these alleged acts?" Medical Staff: "Well no, but..." Def Attorney: "Are you aware of any video evidence that exists that shows Mr. Miller committing these alleged acts? People who were witnesses to these alleged acts?" Medical Staff: "Not to my knowledge, but..." Def. Attorney: "So they could have been committed by anyone then? Or even by her falling off a bike? Or tripping over a curb? Or really anything that would cause her to fall and get some minor scrapes or cuts then correct?" Medical Staff: "Well, yes I suppose, but..." Def. Attorney: "No further questions, your honor." Again...the DA is going to look like a fool without better evidence than that. DA's don't typically like looking like fools, especially in high profile cases. Sorry you can't just convict people by anyone saying anything. So if a random person calls up and says they saw you assaulting someone at work today, by your logic, you should be suspended from work until the investigation is completed right? You must be guilty because someone said you did it, right? I mean why would they lie? Or does this logic only work when it's someone else, but not when it's you? I am not saying Von didn't do it, I am just saying based on what they have, they are going to have a very very hard time PROVING Von did it...and that's what matters. Not what someone says, or what someone "knows must be true". It's what you can prove in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt. I think there is a very large amount of reasonable doubt in this in terms of their case. Also wouldn't be the first time a person embellishes what happened in this situation in the moment while emotions are high and then realizes they better tone the story down a little bit because they made it seem far worse than what actually happened. -

Was Miller there when the police arrived? On video shown doing this? Did someone else witness it? Outside of that, this ends up being a "he said, she said" situation and that is called "hearsay" in a court of law. Do you know how badly she will get eviscerated by his defense attorney if she takes the stand? It would get ugly. And if she refuses to testify, or even worse, testifies for the defense, how is that going to look for the prosecution? They would then get eviscerated by the defense attorney. Unless the DA has some other evidence I don't see how he gets charged with this, too much in the unknown category and too many leaps and assumptions would need to be made that can't be proven. DA's don't like trying cases they know they are unlikely to be able to win, it makes them look bad when they are up for re-election. Remember, just like Denzell famously said in Training Day - "It's not what you know, it's what you can prove!" -
I am sure some of it is valid, but surprising that 25 people have an issue with him over 10+ years coaching? No surprise there. How many people do you think they would have to eviscerate Belichick? Carroll? 100? 200? 500? 1000? Everyone who ever was a HC is going to have people that hate him, players who think they didn't get a fair shake, etc... I'm not saying they are necessarily wrong, just saying that this is not something that is limited to McDermott...every HC in the league has that.

Chance of Playoffs now, according to NYT simulator
Big Turk replied to Ray Stonada's topic in The Stadium Wall
Will likely depend on the Bills being involved in multi-team ties that end up knocking out teams that the Bills would lose tiebreakers to first that they haven't played...perhaps if the Bills win the remaining AFC games they could at least tie some teams on AFC record tiebreakers. Hard to say since there are a lot of situations. -

Philly, Buffalo, Kansas City - How Refs Treat Them
Big Turk replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well the refs didn't give KC a blatant DPI late in the game that would have sent them up at around the GB 10-15 yard line against MVS...I mean maybe the ref figured he would have dropped the ball like he always does but still...that was an absolutely brutal miss. -
Go Jags! Although I don't think they will get much of a test with Browning Nagle at QB.
-
It was just a weird, weird year honestly right from the get go. It is almost impossible to miss the playoffs with a top 5 offense, a D that is 6th in scoring in the NFL and losing all 6 games by 6 points or less. I mean, I know it is, since the Chargers once missed the playoffs with the #1 O AND #1 D in the same season, but it is really, really hard. If we played these games over again, the Bills would probably be 9-3 or maybe even 10-2...but the issue is we don't and we only get to play them once and have to live with the results. I would bet against the Bills being 6-6 again anytime soon after this year with Allen at QB.

It’s Chiefs week - and the season is on the line

Doesn't seem like that much when they have scored 21 or fewer points 7 of their 12 games. At some point you are what your results say you are. This says their much improved D has carried that team with an average to below average offense for much of the year. That D could remain scary good for quite some time...most of their good players outside of Chris Jones are 1st or 2nd year players. -
Von Miller faces arrest in domestic violence case in Dallas
Big Turk replied to ArdmoreRyno's topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly sounds like some situation where she is supposed to be on birth control or has told them she is but then ends up pregnant and he finds out she stopped taking it which means she likely did it to "lock him in" for child support for 18+ years and is trying to scheme him. But, when you date low quality women because they are hot, you get low quality women games played on you... Would explain his reaction in terms of feeling set up or betrayed by her for his money. -

Agreed...it's almost unfathomable how we are in the position we find ourselves in. -

Hahaha...we would have Nabors and Knox on the same team...that could set up for some interesting play by play calls 😂 Get some "Three's Company" calls with Allen involved 😂 -

Yeah it definitely is maddening. That being said, in the grand scheme of things, we aren't in those positions that often(except this year) since we typically are blowing teams out. They also had the best regular season record since 2020 and haven't lost in the regular season by more than 6 points in over 2 years(Indy 11/21/21 was the last time), so that simply shows how few times they have actually lost and how hard it is to beat them...and in most cases, the Bills do far more to beat themselves than the other team actually does. -
This is what makes this season even the more maddening...If the Bills get in the playoffs they could go on the road and make it to the Super Bowl as the 7 seed ala the Steelers(well, 6 seed then) back in the day. Have they dug themselves too big a hole with their stupid losses? Who knows...will be even more maddening if Miami gets the 1 seed after we failed 3 years straight. But it would be awesome if we get in and play them a 3rd time for the 2nd straight season and beat them in the AFC Championship game in Miami like in 1992? I believe, in what I call the "Screen Game", where Thurman Thomas destroyed them on screens for much of the game.

Well...that is only partially true...if the Bills have the ball last, they usually win in those situations...if they score too quickly and give the other team the ball back with anything over 13 seconds where they only need a FG they tend to not fair too well. -

Big Turk replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Metcalf is maddening honestly tho...dude has the talent to be a consistent 100+ catch, 1500+ yard receiver in the NFL similar to AJ Brown and he simply isn't. Currently on pace for 69 catches, his lowest total since his rookie year, and 1150 yards, decent but has only had 2 100+ yard receiving games this season. Dude is Gabe Davis+ in reality... Basically has a higher floor than Davis, but all too often plays near his floor rather than near his ceiling which is top 5 WR in the NFL. He has the talent to be far better than these stats: -

IMO, the Bills should take multiple WR's in the first 1-3 rounds because they will likely be players better than anyone not named Diggs at the WR position on this roster currently. F the defense...McD has shown enough ability to hold his own with patchwork players...focus on building an unstoppable O so you don't have to worry about last game defensive stands...when you are ahead by 3 TDs, those don't matter much. -

Yeah, I talked about this a few weeks ago when Burrow went down...it's unbelievable how they lucked into Chase via injury one year and now are lucking into another top 10 WR most likely due to injury again in the year Higgins/Boyd are likely departing. Luckily for the Bills this WR draft class is very deep and very good. Could almost get multiple WR's in top 2-3 rounds that would be better than anyone not named Diggs currently on the roster. -
