I don't know anything about Shaw. My biggest concern would be the ability to build a coaching staff. I want to assistant coaches, not 'teachers' which is a euphamism for 'should be coaching a HS team'. I know that Gailey will be back next year, but my preference would be for him to be replaced. The top candidate on my list would be Bruce Arians. Second would probably be Perry Fewell. After that, I'd be more than happy with someone like Shaw.

He probably can't be any worse than the long list of re-treads and dimwits we've had since Marv left. Sign me up.

my opinion of Fitz is not based off of this one play. In this instance, maybe Fitz's mistake was throwing to Graham in the first place. Maybe he should have looked for a less risky play. As I've said, I like Fitz. I think he is better than any QB we've had in a long time, I just don't think he is good enough and in my opinion the #1 goal for the front office should be finding a new QB. Since it is very difficult to get good QB's in UFA or trade, I think it should be a priority for the upcoming draft. I am not making the case that our defense is not also in need of upgrades, but I think finding a top tier QB should be Priority #1. Next in line of priorities: 1.) I've lost confidence in Buddy and Chan (not that I had much condfidence in them to begin with). I think it is time for a complete front office overhaul. 2.) Assuming #1 does not happen - we need upgrades at LB, CB and more weapons on offense (WR/TE)

Steve Mariucci sees bright future for Fitzpatrick in Buffalo
Maddog69 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm thinking that we will draft a QB early. We will cut Fitz to save a ton of money and we will have T Jax, Thigpen and Smith fighting for the #2 and #3 spots behind the Rookie. -
Or if we had a QB who would not throw INTs at the absolute worst time. I don't understand how people cannot comprehend that. As poorly as the defense played, they stopped the Pats twice in the fourth qtr and gave us a chance to win but Fitz pissed it away.

greatest thread ever

he finished the game with as many turnovers as TDs and had the ball in his hands with an oppty to win the game and could not get the job done. Time after time he shows that he is just not quite good enough. The Patriots fans are probably saying "31 points should be enough to win" but sometimes it isn't. Like I said before, I understand that the defense is not good enough and that 31 points is about the best we can expect from a Fitz lead offense, but to me, that is irrelevant. Either we fix the entire defense or we find 1 great QB. Fitz is not it. Have Tom Brady switch uniforms for our final drive and I am pretty confident that he gets the ball in the end zone and the Bills win. Whether it is fair or not, our QB needs to be good enough to beat Tom Brady. Brady is going to put up around 30 point almost every time we play them. We need to do the same and we need to close out games when we have the chance. And don't forget that it was Fitz who fumbles on the opening drive of the game and basically spotted NE a touchdown. HE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH..
-
bottom line is: regardless of stats or what else happened in the game. We've had 2 recent opportunities to win a game (Tenn and NE) and Fitz could not come through. If we are going to beat NE regularly, we need a QB who can compete on an even level with Brady if we want to win.

I love Fitz. His personality is great. He almost always seems to make the right decisions on the field and is a great leader and face of the franchise. Unfortunately, he lacks 2 of the most important things that are required to be a great NFL QB, arm strength and accuracy. Ultimately, he is just not physically gifted enough to be successful as a full time starter. I would love to have him as our back up QB for the next 5 years, I just don;t want to have to depend on him to win games for us week in and week out because he is not good enough to do so.

Still have to go Defense heavy in 13' Draft
Maddog69 replied to Bufcomments's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They've spent a ton of draft choices on D over the last couple years and have had ZERO success. Why keep doing the same thing? Gilmore looks like he might be decent. Dareus is decent. Byrd has been solid. The rest of the defensive draft picks in the last 3 years are absolutely useless. -
I agree that we need a playmaking LB. But for me, the need for a true Franchise/difference making QB is more important to the long term success of the team. We have drafed no later than 12th in Rd1 since 2006 yet we have never taken a QB even though we don't have a good one. I think this is a huge mistake. I think the Bills should decide which QB in this year's class is their guy and do whatever it take to get him. If you have to trade 4 #1 picks, to get him then you do it. We havent had much success with our first round picks anyway so we wouldnt be giving up much. I would give our last 6 #1 picks to get RGIII. The problem with my logic here, unfortunately, is that I have no faith in this FO to identify the correct QB or to pull off a trade to get him. I personally don't expect any major improvement in the team until Mr Wilson is no longer the owner. Even if we cleaned house this year, we cannot get anybody good to come in as President, GM, CEO, Coach, Trainer, Waterboy, etc. So, i have resigned myself to waiting and living through a few more years of miserable football before things hopefully turn around under new ownership. I know, I know, the new owner will move them to LA. I don't think there is much chance of the Bills ever leaving Buffalo, but if it does happen, I'd rather it happen sooner rather than later. Get it over with and let me get on with my life. It's like having your wife threaten to leave you every day. While it would suck for her to leave, if she's going to do it, go ahead and get it over with.

Good ? Decisions ? Bad ? Decisions ?

Powell. Basically the same stats, much lower paycheck -
Pocket Presence, Andrew Luck v. Fitz
Maddog69 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Luck looked pretty good. But he had a much better team around him last night than Gabbert. Reggie Wayne was wide open all night. I thought Luck got very lucky. He had 2 INT's and a Fumble (luckily one of the INTs got called back because of a cheap penalty). I was not as impressed with Luck as I was expecting to be. And the biggest takeaway from that game was that I feel back for Gabbert. Switch places with Luck and he would be the one getting all the hype and Luck would be criticized. JAX has no talent to help Gabbert at all. -
If bills only win 1 or 2 more games does Buddy get fired?
Maddog69 replied to freester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wish people would stop suggesting that Polian be brought back. The only reason Polian wants another GM job it to get his son hired and set up as his heir apparent. He had this set in Indy before Irsay dumped both of them. Buffalo already has this set up. When Nix goes, Whalley steps in. That is unless the team has a new owner by then (one way or another) and the new owner brings in an entirely new front office. -
I think that even if the Bills do not win another game all year, Chan Gailey will be the HC again next year. The only chance that might change if if Ralph demands that he fire Wannstedt and Chan refuses, but I don't see that happening.

GM - Whalley HC - Bruce Arians or Russ Grimm DC - Kevin Greene

Stevie is going to be limited with his thigh bruise. They need another body at WR in case Stevie can't go full speed.

Assuming a loss to the Pats.....

And when we do draft in the top 5, we take a mediocre Defensive Tackle -
Oh come on. If all 5 Megtrons were in the same area of the field, even Fitz could hit one. It might not be the one he was aiming for, but he should hit one of them. LOL.
-
Assuming Whalley is the heir apparent at GM, the next HC has a good chance of having some Pittsburgh connection, right? I'm still really intruiged by Russ Grimm. I know he turned down the chance to interview last time, but I'd love to see if he would be interested this time around.

Nix is now just trying to buy 2-3 more years in their jobs for himself and Gailey. Everyone will be excited that we have our new franchise QB and Ralphy cannot expect a rookie QB to win immediately. Its time to blow it up. Get rid of Nix and Gaiiley. New GM. New Coach. New QB. They get 3 years to prove they can get the job done or they are out.
-
You mean re-treads like Marv Levy, Bill Belicheck and Tom Coughlin? You can find good coaches that were previously head coaches already. You can find good coaches who were not previously head coaches. Our problem is not that we have looked in the wrong place, it's just that we haven't chosen the right one and we haven't surrounded any of them with enough talent to win.
-
I don't want a coach/GM who are on their way out to be the ones picking the of the future. It's time for Nix to retire. Let Whalley take over and decide what he wants to do at HC. Then then Whalley and his chosen HC pick the QB of the future. The team is a mess. We have an ownership situation that is in question because of the age/health of Ralph. We have an expiring lease. We have a 70+ year old scout as our GM. We have a Marketing guys as team president. We have a mediocre Offensive Coordinator/Country Bumkin as our HC. We have a career backup as our starting QB.
-
This is exactly what I was thinking. He sounds great during interviews but he is constantly out of position. He is really really not a good football player on the field. We are better with Barnett in the middle.

Rob Ryan, the next head coach of the buffalo bills.
Maddog69 replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with this 100%. I hate the obnoxious, blowhards. I cannot stand either of the Ryan brothers. I hated Gregg Williams when he was here. NO THANKS. There are dozens of other coaches available that I would prefer over Rob Ryan.
